While in Higashi Osaka for regular business, I stopped by "Kura Sushi" at the Higashi Osaka branch. It is located a 15-minute walk from both Kintetsu Hattori-Nosato Station and Wakae-Iwata Station. If you walk north from the main road (Tenri Suita Line) that is located between the two stations, you will see the restaurant. I ordered 7 plates of salmon dishes and 1 plate of "Shiitake Mushroom Tempura". This seems to be a major conveyor belt sushi chain, but it was my first time seeing it. It is apparently the number one store in Osaka.
Food & Taste: 3.3
The "Salmon" and "Grilled Salmon" are each served with 1 piece of each on a plate. The salmon is soft and has a consistent taste. The grilled salmon is seared. I might prefer this one. The "Salmon Pepper Seared" has a strong aroma. I usually like a strong flavor when it comes to salmon, and this one was delicious. The "Salmon with Green Onion and Chili Oil" doesn't have much spiciness, it's more about the flavor. It was the only one that was a bit subtle among the ones I tried this time. Overall, the sushi seems to have fresh ingredients for a conveyor belt sushi place. Out of the 14 pieces of salmon I had, only 3 pieces had a dull color. Wasabi is served separately (in a small packet), which was disappointing. The "Shiitake Mushroom Tempura" was served as sushi rather than a single item. It comes with a bite-sized portion of rice, which was actually nice. It was crispy and contained the umami essence of shiitake mushrooms, and it was delicious. Out of the 5 types I tried this time, I liked the grilled, raw, peppered, shiitake, and chili oil salmon in that order.
Service: 3.3
You operate the machine at the storefront to assign seats. You order via a touch screen, and the food is delivered on a lane. Due to the current situation, the sushi is not rotating. Self-checkout is done by scanning the receipt. Basically, there is no need for human interaction. However, there were cases where the staff assisted customers. Polite service. (It seemed that they were asking some customers to change seats to accommodate others) There are several menus that serve two types on one plate, which I found to be fair. They also offer a variety of side menus, which caught my eye.
Atmosphere: 3.0
As mentioned earlier, it is located quite far, a distance that you would not normally travel without a car. The exterior is mainly white with accents of red. It has a large parking lot. The interior has spacious aisles, but the space at the tables is too cluttered and narrow. The counter in front of the store has two conveyor belts running on the upper and middle levels. It was unclear who came first and who came after. Despite the number of seats being relatively small, it was not very crowded, probably because it was a weekday. The table area seemed to be moderately lively with young people.
Cost Performance: 3.5
Sushi plates are generally around 110 yen for 2 pieces. The "Shiitake Mushroom Tempura" is 110 yen. With a total of 8 plates, the bill came to 880 yen. Among many conveyor belt sushi chain stores, this one seems to be particularly affordable. The thickness of the ingredients is average for a conveyor belt sushi place, making it easy to use.
