2020: Revisited "Shimizu Sushi" for the first time in a while because I suddenly craved sushi (lol). Due to current circumstances, the buffet is canceled, but instead you get a luxurious assortment of small dishes! The nigiri set meal is 1100 yen including tax. First... - Wakame seaweed soup - Eggplant and shishito pepper simmered dish (delicious!) - Chinese cabbage ohitashi - Burdock tempura and simmered daikon radish - Chicken karaage - Macaroni salad. The sweet simmered dish is really tasty! The nigiri set comes with 8 pieces: squid, octopus, eel, sea bream, yellowtail, shrimp, and tamago, all with consistently good flavors! The staff may lack a bit of energy (lol), but next time I definitely want to try the eel rice bowl set!

Before going to buy umeboshi and pepper at Ishikiri Sando, I decided to have lunch at Hyoutan-yama. I visited "Shimizu Sushi Shop" where the lunch set is 1100 yen (tax included). The lunch set comes with an all-you-can-eat side dish buffet. I ordered the tsukuri set meal. First, they brought me a plate for the buffet, so I went to get some side dishes (it's a one-way clockwise direction). There were oden, simmered dishes, salad, carpaccio, marinated mackerel, and seabass sashimi. When I returned to my seat, sashimi, osuimono soup, and rice were served. The sashimi included tuna, sea bream, yellowtail, and squid. The sea bream was not great, but the yellowtail was firm and the squid was pleasantly sweet. I had plenty of rice and side dishes. I was already full. They also offer parking service (1 hour), so it was easy to go by car. It was delicious. Thank you. Note: The nyuumen set meal can be changed to sushi rice instead of white rice. Nyuumen was like a small rice bowl. It looked delicious. Note: If the side dishes run out, they may not be replenished, so it's better to go early after opening.

I went to "Shimizu Sushi Shop" that was featured on TV last week (even though I didn't watch it). It is famous for its deli buffet in Hyotan-yama, and I had been wanting to go there for a while but never had the chance. I arrived at the restaurant around 11 a.m. on a weekday. The place was bustling with many customers. It had a traditional sushi restaurant feel to it. I ordered the Nigiri Set Meal and the Tsukuri Set Meal, each for 1000 yen. When you order a set meal, they bring you a plate and you can go to the buffet counter where various deli dishes are displayed. There were more dishes than I expected, mostly Japanese cuisine. I filled my plate little by little and returned to my seat. The deli dishes had a solid flavor and were delicious. The oden had a slightly sweet taste, with ingredients like daikon soaked in broth. As it was crowded, I went for a second round, but to my surprise, the dishes were not replenished. Some dishes that were there earlier were no longer available. The Nigiri Set Meal was delicious with large sushi rice portions, making you feel full. If you want to eat more deli dishes, I recommend the Tsukuri Set Meal or Tempura Set Meal. Unfortunately, there were only fruit punch-like desserts available later, so I ended up not having any. The timing may have been off, but for a small restaurant buffet, it's understandable. The deli dishes were tasty, and since there were many elderly customers, I could tell that this place has been cherished by the locals for a long time. I recommend visiting during opening hours. Two of us went for lunch together. We chose our main dish from the menu, and there was a buffet-style selection of side dishes available at the counter seats. The restaurant was always crowded with customers. The variety of side dishes was plentiful, and personally, I really enjoyed the thick mozuku seaweed vinegar and went back for seconds. The other side dishes were mainly Japanese cuisine and very delicious. There were also a few dessert options like jelly, cream puffs, and fruits. The only disappointment was that when I ordered the seafood bowl, the rice was too hot, which warmed up the toppings, and the rice wasn't vinegared. Since they have sashimi set meals, I think I'll try that next time.

Also, since it was the lucky day of the second anniversary, I got a free drink, so I ordered a non-alcoholic beer. I quickly went to get the assorted side dishes buffet on the plate they brought me! There were so many types of side dishes, and they all looked delicious! I ended up piling my plate high (^0^;) The sushi was very delicious, and the miso soup was light and refreshing. The side dishes were also very tasty. In the second half, melon and watermelon were served, making it a very fulfilling lunch. The parking lot is on the south side of Hyotan-yama Station, in the shopping street parking lot just after entering the one-way street of Coco Kara Fine. If you bring a parking ticket, you get a one-hour service during lunchtime.

I recently heard from a father I met at a Fusse izakaya that there are many different shops in Hyotan-yama, so I searched on Tabelog and found "Shimizu Sushi Store." The lunch time ends at 2:30 pm, so you can't drink all day, but for 1000 yen, you can enjoy your desired set meal and side dishes buffet, and smoking is also allowed, which was appealing. It seemed to be a popular shop, so I made a reservation the day before and the response was very polite, which made me even more excited. When I arrived around noon on the day, many customers were already enjoying lunch and daytime drinking. There were about 8 types of set meals for 1000 yen, so I ordered a sashimi set meal and an eel bowl set meal to share with a friend. Of course, we started with a toast with beer, but unfortunately, they were out of bottled beer for 600 yen, so we ordered a 500 yen bottle instead. Plates for the buffet were already placed on the table, so we quickly went to get the side dishes. There were about a dozen side dishes and desserts lined up on the counter. I couldn't decide what to eat first, but I wanted to try everything little by little, so I put 7 kinds of side dishes on 2 plates. The side dishes were all delicious. Before I knew it, the set meals arrived. The eel bowl was amazing with plenty of thick and fluffy eel on top. The sashimi in the sashimi set meal was also fresh. Both came with a delicate and gentle miso soup. I could have kept drinking beer, but I didn't want to drink too much and not be able to enjoy the food, so I decided to have one more and then switch to sake. I chose Kuro Matsutaka Taisen Junmai cold sake for 700 yen. Sake really goes well with Japanese food. I could use plates and small bowls to serve 6 items at once, so I carefully arranged them so that the flavors wouldn't mix. By this point, I was quite full, but I couldn't resist the desserts. So, I ended with some melon. I didn't get to the oden in the end, but I plan to visit again soon and try the nigiri set meal next time. Beer and sake are excluding tax, but the 1000 yen set meal is inclusive, so even with all the food and drinks, it was only about 3800 yen! Super great value. I will definitely visit again.

Sushi restaurant located a short walk from Hirakatayama Station on the Kintetsu Line. It's a popular spot for lunch because they offer a casual atmosphere and a buffet of side dishes. I went around 11:30 am on a weekday. The counter was filled with delicious looking side dishes. I couldn't decide which set meal to get, so I ended up sharing a sashimi set meal and an eel rice bowl set meal. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, as expected from a sushi restaurant. The eel rice bowl had five pieces of eel and was very filling. Each side dish was carefully prepared and surprisingly delicious. By noon, it started to get crowded with a line forming at the counter for the side dishes. I recommend going before 12 pm. They keep bringing out new side dishes as they run out, making it hard to resist going for seconds even when you're already full. I wish this place was closer to my home so I could visit more often!

The clientele is mostly older, but you may also see mothers with children dining in the back tatami room. My recommendation is the sushi set meal for 1,000 yen with a side dish buffet included. Once you order, you can immediately go get side dishes. The counter is lined with items such as oden, nanban-zuke, fried chicken, salad, simmered dishes, and more, all available for unlimited refills. The sushi set meal includes 8 pieces of sushi (with miso soup) such as eel, yellowtail, shrimp, egg, octopus, squid, and tuna, with the selection changing based on the season. The fresh ingredients make for a satisfying and filling lunch.

The seafood side dishes were especially tasty, and the overall home-cooked flavors were very satisfying. The variety and quality of the side dishes were impressive. I am a local, so I use this place quite often. I used to come here mainly at night for sushi, delicious side dishes, and drinks like sake and beer. But now, I have become a regular for lunch. I always order the tempura set, while my wife goes for the eel bowl. The eel is grilled to perfection, piping hot and thick, with a generous portion that even satisfies our growing son. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the eel bowl, but I made sure to capture my tempura set. In addition to the main dishes, there is also a side dish buffet where you can help yourself to simmered dishes, pickles, fruits, and more.
