Celebrating the 1000th review, here is the third installment of the "Memorable Restaurants Series" featuring a famous takoyaki shop called Koga-Ryu. This shop, originally from Amerikamura in Osaka, has now expanded to various locations, mostly in food courts. Among these locations, the Izumi branch holds a special place in my heart, as it has been there since I was a child, despite being far from the station in a rural area. The takoyaki here is known for its flavorful broth-infused batter, fluffy texture from grated yam, and large, firm octopus pieces inside. While I usually opt for the classic sauce and mayo topping, the slightly sweet sauce here makes it a great choice for those who enjoy a bit of spice with their mayo. My memories of Koga-Ryu takoyaki are countless, from treating myself to it once a month as a middle schooler, to my brother working there during my college years and bringing home leftover takoyaki for us to enjoy. Whenever I visit my hometown now, I always make sure to stop by with my brother to savor their takoyaki and beer. Despite its mysterious location, I hope Koga-Ryu will continue to thrive for years to come. The warm hospitality of the staff, especially the local aunties, adds to the charm of this place. For those not familiar with the area, I recommend renting a bicycle from the station to make the trip more convenient. I look forward to many more visits to Koga-Ryu in the future. For quite some time now, there has been a Koga-style takoyaki shop in Izumi City♪(´ε｀ ) The shop in Amerikamura is quite well-known, I guess... Especially since it's not near the station, you need a car to get there... Maybe you could go by bus... The shop has a few parking spaces in front, and usually you could eat inside, but now maybe because of that thing going on, it's takeout only♪(´ε｀ ) It's been a while since my last visit♪ I decided to have it for lunch today... I got a box of 15 takoyaki, and asked for karashi mayo♪ Hmm... I also spotted takosen, so I ordered one with takosen cheese♪ I'll eat them at home♪(´ε｀ ) I started with the takosen... Freshly made senbei with a crispy texture is good, but I prefer the takosen that has had some time to soften a bit♪(笑) The fluffy and hot takoyaki with a firm and chewy octopus inside... Every year at the end of the year, I decide to have takoyaki from this place for lunch! This year, it seems like there are more people lining up compared to last year. Last year, you could make a reservation by phone, but this year, they are not allowing phone reservations due to the large number of people lining up, in order to prioritize fairness. I appreciate their sincere attitude! So, this year, I lined up again! Haha! Taking into account the lessons from last year, I placed the following order this year (lined up at 12:31 on December 31, 2018, ordered at 56 minutes past the hour, paid at 1:03, and received the products at 6 minutes past the hour): - Sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces for 570 yen 6 pieces - Soy sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces for 570 yen 2 boxes - Negi ponzu mayonnaise 14 pieces for 670 yen 4 boxes Lining up while smelling the aroma is quite tough. It makes you very hungry. I brought the finished products home, but unfortunately, the contents were different from the order. There were 5 sauce, 5 soy sauce, and 2 negi ponzu instead. It was really disappointing to have a shortage of negi ponzu. Oh well, it can't be helped! Next year, I will order 6 sauce, 2 soy sauce, and 5 negi ponzu. I enjoyed the takeout again this year. It seems like the sauce mayonnaise and negi ponzu are popular! Eating takoyaki from Koka style feels very fresh and delicious, especially since I usually have Gindako in Tokyo. Takoyaki from Osaka is definitely a must-try dish, even if you have to wait in line! I will line up again next year.

Osaka's specialty, takoyaki! I wonder how many years ago it was when I was wandering around America-mura in Namba. I was impressed when I discovered the Koga-ryu in Izumi. I think it was cheaper back then, but the taste of the sauce mayonnaise hasn't changed. Today, 10 pieces cost 400 yen. There are several takoyaki shops along the main road from Izumi Fuchu to Izumi Chuo, but the taste subtly varies. This shop is tucked away near Wakiki Elementary School, but the large sign catches your eye. Is the young lady on the sign the poster girl? She patiently takes your order while waiting for you to park your car. Inside the shop, there are people enjoying their drinks while reading manga. It's a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Every year during the year-end and New Year holidays, I buy "takoyaki" here and eat it at home. This time, the order was as follows: ・Sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces 6 ・Soy sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces 2 boxes ・Green onion ponzu mayonnaise 14 pieces 3 boxes. There were 6 men and 4 women, a total of 10 people. Eating with 10 people is about 80% full. The taste is delicious. This time, the most popular was the green onion ponzu mayonnaise! It disappeared in no time! Next year, I wonder if I'll need ・Sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces 6 ・Soy sauce mayonnaise 15 pieces 2 boxes ・Green onion ponzu mayonnaise 14 pieces 4 boxes! It's a good idea to make a reservation by phone before going to buy to save time.

When you think of Osaka, you definitely think of takoyaki, right? But why does a place like this have Koga-style takoyaki from America-mura? Anyway, setting that aside, the prices are 350 yen for 10 pieces and 500 yen for 15 pieces. This time, I ordered the sauce mayonnaise, soy sauce mayonnaise, and sauce flavors. It's really delicious. The hot takoyaki, when you bite into it, the filling overflows from inside. This is the real deal takoyaki. It's different from what you would eat in Fukuyama. I can't quite explain it... I want to eat it again tomorrow. I want to eat more, but I'm going out for dinner now so I'll resist today. Today, it's really crowded because of the year-end rush. There are about 15 people in line. I bought 9 boxes of jumbo takoyaki for lunch today. I ordered 3 boxes of sauce mayonnaise (15 pieces for 500 yen each), 3 boxes of soy sauce mayonnaise (15 pieces for 500 yen each), 2 boxes of green onion ponzu (14 pieces for 600 yen each), 1 box of black pepper (14 pieces for 550 yen each), and 2 packs of takosen (150 yen each). I love the green onion mayonnaise ponzu the most! Next would be the sauce mayonnaise! Soy sauce mayonnaise is good when you want something light! I'm happy to have eaten this at the end of the year. I came to Osaka at the end of the year again. It was very delicious! I went to buy it again this year!

I tried to look up if there is any relationship between the shop name "Koga-ryu" and Shiga's Koga, but I couldn't find out (*_*) The original Koga-ryu in Shinsaibashi seems to have a history of 40 years. The "Minami Osaka Sakebu-tai" is full of excitement♪ I love the Minami Kawachi area, surrounded by mandarin orange and grape fields. It is a green and peaceful area with plenty of delicious ingredients. Currently, I am exploring delicious restaurants in Sakai, Senshu, and Minami Kawachi. There are many encounters with delicious food! We order negi ponzu, karashi mayonnaise, and shichimi to share and eat until we are full.

Koga-ryu, located just after entering from Kishiwada to Izumi City, has been around for about 20 years. There is always a good number of customers, but on this day, there was only one couple inside the store. Three people came to buy while I was there. Truly a popular place. On this day, I had the food inside the store. I enjoyed the Negi Ponzu and sauce with spicy mayonnaise! I devoured it all! The skin was pleasantly soft and the inside was chewy. It's definitely best enjoyed hot. I was so impressed by the deliciousness that I bought the soy sauce with spicy mayonnaise to take home.

We always eat about 20 takoyaki balls, served on 3-4 plates, with 3-4 people, so we are full＾＾； The takoyaki here is not the crispy type on the outside, but rather soft both outside and inside. I like both types. I had a strong image of America-mura, so it took me a while to buy them for the first time, but as many takoyaki shops are closing down, I now go here for takoyaki. "Salt" or "ponzu" are things I already have at home, so I feel a bit wasteful to pay extra for them＾＾； But I can't resist ordering "ponzu" because of the green onions. They always label the type you bought with "soy sauce mayonnaise" or similar, which is helpful since there are so many varieties. It would be nice if they had a bigger parking lot. It gets really busy on Saturday afternoons (;^_^A

This is a takoyaki restaurant located in a place that can only be reached by car in Izumi City. The access is by bus from JR Sankosha Line Izumi-Fuchu Station. It is a popular takoyaki restaurant in Amerikamura in Osaka Minami. It is located in a residential area in Izumi City, which raises the simple question of 'Why is there a branch in such a place?' Despite this, it is a restaurant that I have been patronizing since my youth, and I visited it again after a long time since I had some business nearby. The staff at this old-fashioned takoyaki restaurant were energetic and efficient, which lifted my spirits. They offer a variety of toppings such as sauce, soy sauce, and black pepper. This time, I got the sauce and black pepper for takeout. The black pepper with lemon squeezed on top is recommended as a great accompaniment to alcohol. The takoyaki here is straightforward, with a good size and flavor, and it never disappoints. Even though I live in Osaka and sometimes make takoyaki at home, it's nice to have it from a restaurant once in a while.
