Temple St.
A long time ago, there used to be a different ramen shop here, and I visited it once. This is my first visit to this restaurant. At around 6:30 pm, there was only one customer already seated. I was surprised when I looked at the menu. The variety of side dishes and drinks for pairing with alcohol is incredible. They also have motsunabe and sukiyaki. Even though you can just have ramen if you go at night, it seems like most groups that came later were having a drinking party. By the time I left, there were over 10 customers, so it seems quite popular. I ordered the "Good Job Set" for 1300 yen (choice of ramen, 5 bite-sized gyoza, and a draft beer or highball or chu-hi), with a highball. The highball was served promptly, and while looking at the menu, I ordered the tomato slices for 380 yen. The tomato slices were juicy, sweet, and delicious. After about 5 minutes, the gyoza was served. They were truly bite-sized. The outside was crispy, the inside was juicy, and the back side of the skin was chewy, which made them quite tasty. Perfect for drinking. When you put on the yuzu pepper provided, it adds a refreshing touch. I ordered a "Kaku Highball" for 450 yen with an extra 80 yen for a stronger taste. I also added the "Akawinna Takosan" for 380 yen. As I looked at the menu further, I noticed they also have whiskies like Dewar's, Harper, Bowmore, Yamazaki, and Hakushu for highballs. They also have over 10 types of shochu. I asked if I could have a whisky highball instead of a highball, and it was okay, so I finished half of the Akawinna Takosan and then ordered a double Yamazaki on the rocks as a chaser. This Akawinna Takosan, I've had red hot dogs at various izakayas before, thinking they all tasted the same, but this one was the best! The red hot dog was firm and chewy. It might be due to the effect of frying it. For the final dish, I ordered the default Hakata ramen with extra green onions for 50 yen, a seasoned egg for 100 yen, and the noodles to be firm. You can choose the firmness of the noodles from 9 levels. Although it's not on the table, if you ask for garlic, they will provide it, so I also asked for that. The ramen was served quite quickly, even though they were short-staffed. The soup was relatively light, but it had a good pork bone flavor and was quite delicious. Some people say it lacks a punch, but when I added garlic and the high-quality pickled vegetables on the table, it became too punchy. The noodles were just right with a firm texture, and the low-water content straight noodles matched perfectly with this soup. Since I also ordered a double Yamazaki, the bill came close to 4000 yen, but considering I had drinks and ramen for dinner, it didn't feel too expensive. I feel like this place deserves a higher overall rating, not just as a ramen shop. I will definitely visit again. I want to try other side dishes and order the Japanese-style or RED ramen for my meal. Thank you for the meal!
