Occasionally feeling like having some KYK, I decided to go to Umeda. Since the Osaka Station City store had closed, I debated between 3rd Avenue and 32nd Avenue, and ultimately chose 32nd Avenue due to its great view. I arrived before noon and was able to enter smoothly, being seated at a counter seat by the window. The view from this counter seat was spectacular, with a panoramic view from Kansai TV to Mt. Ikoma. The view alone could be worth the price. Soon after, I was handed the menu, and I noticed that they now offer lunch menus even on weekends. The lunch set included a combination of pork cutlet and shrimp fry, with a buffet of curry, salad, and more. The lunch set was around 880 yen before tax, or 970 yen including tax, which was quite cost-effective considering the buffet service with curry, salad, miso soup, and rice refills. I ordered the pork cutlet and shrimp fry combination, and first, a plate of shredded cabbage was served. I enjoyed that while waiting for the pork cutlet to arrive. KYK seems to fry using low-temperature oil, resulting in a slightly soft and fluffy coating. The crispy texture was subtle, but the pork inside was cooked thoroughly, bringing out the sweetness and umami of the meat and fat. They also provided plenty of tartar sauce in a separate dish for the shrimp fry. The first bowl of miso soup could be upgraded to tonjiru (pork soup) for an additional fee, which I opted for. Even though I was already full, I couldn't resist the curry, so I asked for a serving of curry rice. You can choose to have just the curry or have it with rice, and they are flexible with that (update: self-service for rice, curry, and miso soup seems to be back). All of this for 970 yen. KYK may give off a slightly expensive impression, but when you consider the overall service, it's actually quite affordable. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, they seemed to be making efforts in various aspects. I recommend you visit and try it out.
