Well, Yayoi Ken is pretty average. They have Chicken Nanban, and you can get free rice refills, so I end up going there often. The prices are a bit higher than other chains because of the free refills, but that's just how it is. The taste is just okay, not bad. You can eat a lot, so it's good for students or anyone looking for a hearty meal.

During the lunch break of my day shift job, I revisited Yayoiken at Tennoji North Exit and had the pork ginger set meal with a side of vegetable salad. However, it was quite crowded as it was right in the middle of lunchtime. The breakdown of the meal was: Pork ginger set meal - 710 yen, Vegetable salad - 90 yen, Total - 800 yen.

I visited Yayoiken Tennoji Station Front Store for the first time during my rare Saturday shift (and early start) lunch break, and had the Katsu-don (750 yen including tax). Yayoiken's bowl menu includes Chicken and Egg Bowl, Katsu-don, and Tekka-don, all served with miso soup. Furthermore, regardless of regular or large size, the price for the bowl menu is the same, making it feel like a great deal (^o^)

I enjoy the breakfast at Yayoiken, especially the fried egg breakfast, but recently I have been really liking the shirasu-oroishi. I mix a raw egg into my rice to make tamago kake gohan, and enjoy it with nori, cold tofu, shirasu-oroishi. I finish with pickles and complimentary dashi, and it's delicious.

Ticket system. The ticket vending machine is inside the shop. The shop is quite small. Choose your favorite seat and hand the ticket to the staff.

Today I had Tekkadon! I came closer to lunchtime than usual, so there were a lot of customers! But the turnover is fast. The second bowl today. Tekkadon with an extra raw egg. At first, it was just tuna. It was soft without any fishy smell. The seaweed on top was also delicious. In the end, I added the egg and it was almost like a TKG. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Second time having the meat and vegetable stir-fry set meal. Used a coupon for the mackerel tea-set. The mackerel was small but tasty. The tea-soaked rice was also delicious. The meat and vegetable stir-fry was as good as always. Not something I crave to eat all the time, but it goes really well with rice and always tastes great. After trying out all the menu items, it's the kind of taste that makes you want to come back.

The oyakodon at Yayoiken is just too good...!! There are probably many delicious oyakodon to be found by discovering famous restaurants, but I found a chain that serves delicious oyakodon that you can eat anytime... The dashi broth has a strong flavor, sweetness, the chicken is juicy, and the egg is fluffy and creamy... This time, I ordered it with less rice, but if I'm a little more hungry next time, I'll go for the regular size with a raw egg topping and feel like I'm in heaven... It's unrelated, but the chairs are so comfortable that I feel like ordering a coffee...lol Thank you for the meal! ^_^

In Kobe Nishimotomachi, a yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) gathering was held with members mostly coming from far away. There was only one local Kobe resident among us. After the event, some of us missed the last train and had to decide on where to go for a late-night meal. The options were limited to three choices: Gyoza no Ohsho, Tenkaippin, and Yayoiken. We ended up choosing Yayoiken, even though we had a disappointing experience with their lunch menu earlier. I ordered the fried chicken set for 700 yen (tax included). When the food arrived and I tried it, honestly, I thought the bentos from the convenience store were tastier. It was a bit of a shock for me as I expected Yayoiken to be better. Nevertheless, considering the late-night opening hours and affordable prices, it was still a decent meal. Thank you for the meal. As a side note, Yayoiken is known to be a favorite of a reviewer named Tarou. Also, it was mentioned that Tarou tried fried food for the first time during this campaign, but the experience was just okay. Additionally, Tarou's recommended menu at Yayoiken is grilled fish. On the other hand, the dish I didn't order turned out to be better.

I ordered the mixed set meal and was surprised by the generous portion size. I was able to get three extra helpings of rice. The set included chicken, shrimp fry, and beef, providing a good variety. Around 9:30 in the morning, the restaurant had a decent amount of customers, but by 9:50, there were more available seats.

If you want a hearty set meal, go to Yayoi Ken! Order the vegetable stir-fry set meal with mixed grain rice! The vegetables are crunchy and the meat is delicious. It comes with spicy miso for added flavor. Definitely a meal that goes well with rice. I'm curious about the mackerel miso set meal and rice bowl too. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant in the morning at around 9:30. It is located near Tennoji Station and is a small store. You have to tell the staff if you want a refill of rice or hot tea. The space for eating rice and drinking tea is limited, so it can feel a bit rushed. The staff were polite and attentive. I had the natto breakfast set with extra rice served in a new bowl. The refill tea was also served in a new cup, which was efficient and thoughtful. I also had a free tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette) using a coupon from Yoshinoya. Unfortunately, the tamagoyaki was sweeter than I prefer. Next time, I might ask for it without sugar. Would they be willing to accommodate that request?

Located just north of JR Tennoji Station, only a few minutes' walk away, this chain restaurant specializes in set meals without noodles. They focus on rice dishes. I tried their new set of four Japanese dishes for ¥890, and I upgraded to barley rice for an additional ¥30. Previously, you could choose mixed grain rice as an option, but now only barley rice is available. The set includes: 1) Sukiyaki-style simmered dish, 2) Spinach with white sesame dressing, 3) Grilled salted mackerel with sweet vinegar daikon radish and simmered hijiki seaweed, 4) Okra, seaweed, and yuba (tofu skin) with miso and grated yam, pickles, and miso soup with wakame seaweed. It was delicious.

The vegetable and meat stir-fry set meal with plenty of vegetables costs 790 yen (including tax). It was just past 10 pm, and the restaurant was almost full. After buying a meal ticket, I was seated at the counter. The counter was quite spacious, which I appreciated. It took less than 10 minutes for the food to arrive, but coming from places like Osho or Yoshinoya, it felt a bit long. The stir-fried vegetables were served on a large plate, with a good balance of pork and cabbage, and a slightly spicy seasoning that I really enjoyed. The rice was also delicious, like it had just been cooked. By the way, the portion of rice at this restaurant is a bit small, so when I asked the pretty waitress for a smaller portion, she asked, "About a third, is that okay?" I was expecting a normal 70-80% portion, so this response surprised me. I think from now on, I'll ask for a regular portion of rice to make sure I eat enough.

Yayoi-ken is a lunchtime staple. My son, who recently graduated from high school and is on spring break, and I stopped by to buy some 16-grain rice. The miso mackerel was delicious, and the rolled omelette was good too. However, I wish they had dishes like beef stew, but I guess I could just make it myself (lol). Lately, I've been feeling a bit heavy in the stomach. But I can't help but envy my son's hands, they're so clean!

Around 9:00 p.m. on November 27, 2018, I finished work early as I had to catch a flight from Kansai Airport the next day. Since I couldn't make it in time if I left my house on the first train, I decided to stay overnight in Osaka. My accommodation was near Abenobashi Station on the Kintetsu line. Before checking in, I went out to the north side of Tennoji Station to find a place for dinner. I noticed a long line outside Gyoza no Ohsho, but I was surprised to see so many people waiting. I couldn't believe people would line up for a restaurant like that, so I went to the nearby Yayoiken instead. It was also busy, but luckily there were empty seats on both sides of the counter where young girls were sitting. I ordered a fried chicken thigh set (garlic soy sauce) and a beer from the vending machine. I wanted to quench my thirst a bit. The service was good, with friendly greetings despite the crowded restaurant. When asked whether I wanted the beer first or with the meal, I chose to have it first. The food took a little while to arrive, and the cutting of the chicken seemed a bit sloppy. However, the coating was crispy, the garlic soy sauce was just right, and it paired well with the beer. I recommend it. I can drink alcohol while eating sweets or while having a meal, and I was hungry after work, so I ordered a second helping of rice. The portion seemed a bit small, but most people who came in later ordered the larger portion, so I guess they anticipated that.
