I finished dinner early and decided to walk around looking for a cafe. That's when I stumbled upon this coffee shop. As I descended the stairs, I found out that smoking was allowed, so I was drawn in. It felt more like a classic old-fashioned coffee shop than a modern cafe, with reasonable prices. I will definitely be visiting again.

A cafe where taking photos inside is strictly prohibited. The entrance is narrow and leads downstairs. Inside, it feels like an old JR train with seats and luggage racks. It's hard to describe without photos, but there are counter seats and table seats, creating a vibe of taking a break on a train. It's not a themed cafe, but the counter seats resemble the buffet seats on old Shinkansen trains. It's a cozy space that evokes nostalgia, but it allows smoking, so it may not be suitable for those who dislike cigarette smoke.

I stayed at a hotel nearby and was drawn to this restaurant by its auspicious name. It seemed like fate, especially after visiting the temple of the O-kame-san. The restaurant was located underground, with a counter at the back and three small tables with red sofas lined up on the side. Several regular customers were chatting happily with the master at the counter. I ordered the recommended coffee and cheese toast for the day. There were signs saying "No photos allowed" throughout the restaurant, so I refrained from taking any pictures. The atmosphere was lively with conversations, yet it had a calming vibe, making it a suitable place for quiet enjoyment. It felt like a place for solo dining. The conversations of the regular customers were pleasant to listen to. It had a nostalgic feel, like a place that has been around for a long time. The prices were affordable and wallet-friendly.

The interior of the store does not allow photography, so I saw a regular customer chatting with the staff at the counter and I thought, "I want to be like that someday." They were talking about sweets and the regular customer even shared some with me. It made me really happy. If you order a drink, you can get a discount on the cake.

I went to a cafe in the Kawaramachi area today. It's called "Gotafuku Coffee" and it's located on Teramachi Street, east of Daimaru. The cafe has a retro atmosphere and the prices are reasonable, starting at 440 yen for a blend coffee. The cafe is underground and there's a sign at the top of the stairs saying "No photography allowed." Inside, there's an L-shaped counter where they drip the coffee. I ordered a coffee and a cheesecake. They warm the coffee server with hot water, grind the beans, and drip the coffee. The coffee has a rich, bitter taste. The cheesecake was small and delicious. The friendly owner was chatting with regular customers at the counter. It's a cozy, old-fashioned cafe that is well-loved by locals.

Located a 2-3 minute walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto, is the retro coffee shop called Gotafuku Coffee. The interior maintains an old-fashioned atmosphere and allows smoking in all seats, making it a unique feature. The smell of cigarettes is quite strong, so it may be tough for those who dislike smoking, but it could be a great spot for those who enjoy coffee with a smoke. I ordered the popular menu item, the Iced Milk Coffee. As a coffee specialty shop, the aroma and bitterness of the coffee were strong, yet it was made easy to drink with milk and syrup, creating a drink that is characteristic of a long-established coffee shop! They also offer other classic menu items like pudding and float drinks, so be sure to visit. Thank you for the meal!

I went there on a weekday afternoon! The shop is located at the bottom of the stairs, and it feels a bit like a hidden gem. The shop was empty when I went - all seats allow smoking, and since it's a small shop, it can get quite smoky inside. I ordered an iced coffee! They brew each cup on the spot, so the aroma is really nice. It was a rich, clear coffee. It was delicious! I think it might be a bit awkward for dates or hanging out with just girlfriends...! Overall, it's a reasonably priced shop.

I was drawn in by the name "Gotafuku Coffee" above the stairs leading underground, and entered without hesitation. The shop was fairly busy, with some customers being turned away due to full seating at one point. I enjoyed a delicious coffee, took a short break, and then left. As I left, the shop was once again full. It seems to be a thriving establishment. Thank you for the meal.

Emotional shop! This was a shop I had marked and was curious about. It was located in the city center, so I was a bit hesitant after lining up at a restaurant for lunch just before, but since I was alone, I managed to get a seat. (After that, more and more people came in, but it was full so I was lucky!) The interior of the shop had the retro feel I had imagined. I ordered a hot coffee and panna cotta! I was seated at the counter, so I could watch them brewing the coffee, which was great. Seeing the freshly ground beans floating was truly a craftsmanship, and I enjoyed watching it. And when the coffee arrived and I took a sip, it was a good coffee with the aroma of the beans! The panna cotta was also not too sweet, which was nice! I had plans to go to Osaka, so my stay was rushed, but I would like to go back and take my time next time! * Photography inside the shop was not allowed, so I faithfully followed the rule as there were regular customers present.

A small underground shop on the east side just a short walk from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station. It's not spacious, but the authentic atmosphere makes it a great place to enjoy coffee and cigarettes at a leisurely pace. Highly recommended as one of my personal favorite spots.

This is a small café located in Teramachi Shijo-sagaru in Kyoto. It's a really old café that has been around for a long time. Firstly, photography inside the café is prohibited, with clear signs indicating this rule. I don't have a clear memory of the café's interior from the past, but I believe I didn't have a particularly good impression of it back then. However, visiting now brings back a sense of nostalgia. It's a small café where you can sit at the counter and order a blend coffee. They grind the beans right in front of you and brew the coffee with a paper filter. They use a generous amount of coffee grounds, resulting in a strong coffee. It has a nostalgic taste to it. It feels like time is passing slowly in a nostalgic way. I relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely time there. As a side note, when I left the café, three women of the same age group as me stopped me and asked about the atmosphere inside the café, expressing their interest in entering. I explained that smoking is allowed and the atmosphere is very quiet, making it difficult to have conversations. One of them decided to take a look inside and understood my words, concluding that it might be better to not enter. When people think of old-fashioned cafés in Kyoto, they may imagine retro and cool places, but there are also many cafés like this one. Perhaps that's why they manage to survive. It was a nostalgic experience and I enjoyed it a bit.

I stopped by a retro coffee shop for a break. The place is located just off Shijo Street, a narrow staircase down to the basement floor of an old building. Photography inside was prohibited, so I could only take a picture of the storefront. As soon as I entered, it was a smoking area, but since the door was always open, the smoke didn't fill the place. The interior had cozy sofa seats like Komeda's and a counter seat in a small space. A middle-aged woman brewed each cup of coffee and served homemade sweets. I was surprised by the prices on the menu, with the sweets being quite affordable. I ordered an Ethiopia Mocha coffee and a Cheesecake, along with a special Retro Pudding. The Ethiopia Mocha coffee was just to my liking, with a floral and sweet aroma, a clean acidity, and a light roast. The brewing was skillful. The pudding, served on a stainless steel-legged plate, looked delicious and had a smooth texture. If the caramel had a bit more bitterness, it would have been perfect. The British Scent Petit Cheesecake was a mini size, dense baked cheesecake with a high flour content, moist and with a lemony acidity. It had a homemade feel and a moderate sweetness. Overall, I was satisfied with the delicious coffee and pudding. The smoking allowance was understandable, so it's all about timing. Thank you for the meal.

Kyoto Trip Part 5: After a mishap at Nishiki Market the day before, we decided to explore the market during lunchtime. I had been curious about the pudding at Gotafuku Coffee, which was nearby, so we decided to stop by. As we entered through a small doorway and descended into the underground shop, we noticed a sign that read, "Please refrain from taking photos inside the store." A man who seemed to be the owner greeted us and silently led us to a table when we mentioned there were two of us. We waited for about 5 minutes, while the owner engaged in conversation with what seemed to be regular customers, completely ignoring us. We finally had to call out to him, and received a curt response (at this point, we still hadn't been offered water or a wet towel). The menu stated that only coffee and pudding were available for order. When our order arrived, it was served without a word. The pudding and coffee were decent, but the lack of hospitality was disappointing. The friendly female staff member who appeared later provided some relief. While I understand that some restaurants prioritize their food quality over customer service, it's important to remember that being brusque does not equal having standards. Perhaps they are misconstruing rudeness for dedication to their craft. Despite the lack of warmth, I believe this place will continue to thrive with its regular customers. Thank you for the meal.

【Visit Date】November 15, 2020 (Tuesday) at 1:30 PM, visited by 2 people 【Location】Located down the street from Shijo Teramachi, on the west side of Fujii Daimaru. The shop is on the basement floor after going down the stairs. 【Atmosphere】It's an old-fashioned coffee shop with many regular customers. It's a small shop, so it's often full. The counter seats are recommended because you can see the master carefully making drip coffee. All seats allow smoking, so it may be tough for non-smokers. 【Food Received】 - ★Specialty Blend Coffee: It has a light and pleasant taste without any bitterness. It's served at a comfortable temperature, not too hot. Drip coffee requires precise control of extraction time, water temperature, and amount of water poured each time to bring out the best flavor. The final coffee is not piping hot, but it's correct and delicious. - Panna Cotta: Served in a silver cup with plenty of vanilla sauce on top. It has an appealing visual presentation. The aroma of vanilla blends well with the panna cotta. Highly recommended. 【Overall】If you're looking for delicious coffee, I recommend visiting this place. If possible, sit at the counter to watch the extraction process, which can be educational and enjoyable.

I had always been curious about this shop, but it is located in a very convenient place, so I decided to save it for when I was tired and in need of a break. Even though I didn't plan to go there that day, I found that Torinoki Coffee in Marutamachi was full, so I walked from Marutamachi to Shijo and ended up feeling tired. That's when I decided to go into this shop. I visited around 3 pm on a Saturday. It's a very small shop, but there were still about three seats available, so I sat at the counter. The kind shop owner and what seemed to be his wife (they didn't seem to be a couple from their conversation; sorry ><) were running the shop, and I thought it was a lovely place. After that, more and more customers came in, and it quickly became full. The shop seemed to be very popular, as the shop owner had to turn away customers. I had their special blend coffee (440 yen) and pumpkin cake (220 yen). Since photography was not allowed inside, I couldn't take any pictures. It was a privilege to sit at the counter and watch them carefully brew the coffee. The coffee was a bit light for my taste, I prefer a bit more bitterness, but it was a good value for the price and very satisfying. The pumpkin cake was light and delicious, with whipped cream and peanuts on top.

A small, quaint coffee shop located in the basement of a building across from Daimaru on Teramachi Street, west of Shijo Kawaramachi. You can easily spot it by the BEAMS Kyoto store nearby. I had some time to spare, so I stopped by for a coffee. The interior is carpeted and furnished with classic, vintage pieces like sofas, chairs, and tables. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the Taisho era, especially with the small space and the presence of smoking customers. The staff, dressed in formal attire, adds to the old-world charm of the place. Please refer to old photos for a better idea, as photography inside the shop is now prohibited.

I visited this underground retro-style café because I was craving pudding. The interior was just as I imagined, with about 5 counter seats and 10 table seats. Pudding and panna cotta were only available with a drink, so I ordered a hot milk coffee with pudding. The pudding was firm and simple, not too sweet, with a slightly bitter caramel taste and a noticeable egg flavor. Some parts were thick and solid, almost like egg custard. In Kyoto, Smart Coffee is known for their pudding, but personally, I prefer the one at this café. The milk coffee had a strong milk flavor, which I enjoyed. The total cost was around 1000 yen. The atmosphere in the café was reminiscent of old-fashioned coffee shops, and it seemed to appeal to those who enjoy that kind of ambiance.
