Lunch at Goonies, an Okinawan restaurant located a 6-minute walk from Osaka Uehommachi Station. The lunch menu includes daily specials (700 yen), Okinawa soba set meal (850 yen), Chanpuru set meal (800 yen), and Okinawa taco rice (700 yen), all reasonably priced for the area. The menu is handwritten and charming, reflecting the restaurant's style. I chose the Okinawa soba set meal. The soup had a strong bonito flavor, typical of Okinawa soba. It was like a unique version of udon, delicious with the addition of island peppers and spices. Okinawan cuisine is considered a form of Japanese cuisine, similar to how Indian and Sri Lankan curries differ. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant made me want to linger, as did other diners. The master, likely a multi-hobbyist from Okinawa, had guitars and golf clubs displayed in the shop. It's a great spot for a leisurely lunch away from the station. Highly recommended for those looking to relax. Just a heads up!

I traveled to the Yaeyama Islands last month. I wanted to taste the flavors of Okinawa again, so I had the daily lunch special at Goonies. Today's special was grilled pork belly with Okinawa soba instead of soup, and three side dishes including okra and squid in vinegar, tofu, and a crunchy salad. The pork belly was so tender that it easily fell apart with chopsticks, and the flavor was just right, not too sweet or salty. I'm thinking of inviting my friend who traveled with me to have dinner here. The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere with oldies music from the 60s and 70s playing on the monitor.

I sometimes visit at night. The exterior has a natural image with a wood grain design and a very nice atmosphere. My recommended dishes that I always order are island chili pepper gyoza, taco rice, Jimami tofu, somen champuru, and Okinawa soba. Especially, Jimami tofu and somen champuru are delicious and my favorites. I end up ordering somen champuru instead of goya champuru!! I want to know how to make it. Also, the broth of Okinawa soba is very delicious (°▽°). There are many Okinawa-like drink options and the prices are reasonable, so I highly recommend it!! It's about a 5-minute walk north from Uehonmachi Station along Kamimachi Street, then turn right and it's right there.

This is a stylish cafe-like restaurant that doesn't look like a Okinawan cuisine restaurant at all. We were seated in a spacious sofa area. The interior is very open and for some reason, there are many manga books placed around. The dishes have smaller portions but are cheap and delicious! They are easy to eat without any strong flavors. We ordered various dishes such as a bite-sized gyoza with island chili pepper, soumen champuru, pork onigiri, Okinawa soba, and braised pork. It seemed like the two of them were running the place, but we didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. The pork onigiri had a generous portion for 150 yen each. The gyoza was bite-sized and had a nice kick of spiciness from the island chili pepper. The Okinawa soba had tender braised pork on top and the noodles were delicious! The cute shisa-shaped fish cake on top was a nice touch. We ordered a lot and everything was delicious, so we were very satisfied. Even though we only had one drink each, we were full and it didn't cost more than 2000 yen per person. The service was good, the food was delicious, and we had a great time. I would like to visit for lunch next time. Thank you for the meal!

Had lunch at Goonies, an Okinawan restaurant in Kamihoncho. The restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating. You can choose your seat freely upon entering. Ordered Okinawa soba and taco rice to share. The Okinawa soba comes with rice and a small side dish for an additional 150 yen. Soon, the Okinawa soba arrived. The broth was rich and flavorful. It seemed even richer than the authentic one, that's how much flavor I could taste. The noodles had a nice chewy texture typical of Okinawa soba. The pork in it was plentiful and satisfying. Then came the taco rice. It was topped with cheese and torched. There was a bit of tomato sauce on it, with more served on the side. Tasted delicious. I haven't had taco rice much before, so I can't say much about it as taco rice, but it was tasty. The Okinawa soba felt slightly less in portion size, but overall it was a satisfying lunch. This place has a large collection of manga for some reason. It might be nice to spend time here reading manga leisurely while having lunch and drinks.

After circuit training, I was hungry so I had lunch at Goonies. I ordered the Goya Champuru set meal. The main dish was a voluminous Goya Champuru made with fluffy spam. It's been a while since I had spam! When I make it at home, I use pork, so it was worth eating out. I also got Okinawa soba, which was delicious with a rich flavor, maybe from the fish broth. The island tofu came with topped with sea grapes, which made me happy! And it even came with Mimigar (pig ear) and pickles, along with rice, all for 800 yen. After the meal, the Shikuwasa juice was refreshing and tasty. Thank you for the meal!

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is nice. It feels like a place where you can relax. The food was delicious too. The portions were quite generous, and I wanted to try Blue Seal ice cream, but I was too full to order it. I would like to come back again.

For around 700 yen, you can enjoy a nutritious and well-balanced lunch. The menu changes daily and offers a variety of options, so even if you're not a fan of Okinawan dishes like bitter melon (goya), there's something for everyone. The main dishes are not necessarily Okinawan, but they always come with a side of Okinawan soba, so you can still enjoy Okinawan cuisine. Kids especially love the Okinawan soba here. The value for money is really great. The dishes are served in blue-colored plates that give off a calming vibe. The staff is friendly and the spacious interior adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Dinner is also recommended.

I couldn't take any pictures because I came for a work drinking session. Okinawan cuisine is something I haven't had in a long time. I can only remember Goya Champuru and sea grapes. The assorted appetizers were delicious. Beer goes down smoothly. Orion beer is really good. The island chili pepper dumplings had a gentle spiciness that made my body feel warm. Everything else was delicious too, and I enjoyed it until the end. I feel like I want to have Okinawan cuisine again soon. [Course Menu] - Assorted Okinawan appetizers: Jimami Tofu, Mimiga (pork ear), Stir-fried seaweed with carrots, Shiri Shiri (pickled vegetables) - Sea grapes - Goya Champuru - Agu dumplings and island chili pepper dumplings - Purple sweet potato croquette - Taco rice - Okinawa soba - Blue Seal ice cream

I visited alone, but the place seemed more suited for groups with no counter. The staff kept talking among themselves, making me feel even more left out. The stir-fry was burnt and bitter. It didn't suit my taste.

When I passed by the store, I found it cute and interesting, so I decided to go in. It was lunchtime and the store was almost full! Despite being a bit far from the station, it had quite a good number of customers. Maybe it was because the interior was cute, but there were many female customers. I ordered the taco rice lunch set and the shikuwasa soda. It was my first time trying taco rice, and it was delicious. However, the shikuwasa soda was the highlight for me! (laughs) A sweet and sour carbonated drink on a hot day is the best. I love Okinawan cuisine, so I am curious about this place for dinner too.

I love Okinawa and have been a fan of this restaurant for a long time. Today, with the early summer weather, the entrance is completely open. I can see what looks like a stage, so maybe they have live performances at night? The staff, especially the cute and friendly waitress, are welcoming, but the male chef in the kitchen could use a smile or at least a greeting. What I love about Okinawan restaurants is the warm interaction between the staff and customers. I ordered the Taco Rice for 700 yen, which came with a spicy Habanero sauce and homemade vegetable salsa. I like to add Tabasco and extra salsa to my Taco Rice. The only thing missing was a soup that usually comes with lunch sets.
