During a business trip in Osaka, I was looking for a place to have lunch while driving around in a rental car. I stumbled upon a convenient restaurant with a parking lot and decided to go in. It was a familiar chain style where you pick your favorite side dishes and pay at the counter. Normally, the flow would be to choose side dishes, rice, and miso soup, but I ended up being intrigued by udon and fried rice. I ended up getting a double carb combo of kitsune udon and fried rice. Surprisingly, the kitsune udon had a light Kansai-style broth that was delicious, and the fried rice had a consistent flavor. Overall, I think this combination was the right choice! I would like to visit again if I have the chance!

On this day, I was driving to Izumiohtsu in Osaka for work, so I stopped by a restaurant called "Imozen Izumiohtsu" located on the street, about a 5-minute walk from Matsunohama Station on the Nankai Main Line. I have been to this store and the one in Kishiwada a few times before, so it was a reunion after a long time. I found out that this store originated in Wakayama, with 3 stores in Wakayama and 4 stores in Osaka. The ordering style is a cafeteria-style where you can choose from about 40 dishes! It's similar to the style of "Oo Shokudo" or "Omeshiya." It was quite crowded inside during lunchtime, but since the seating capacity is large, I was able to enter without waiting. However, the line to get the food was quite long, so it took some time to get the food. For lunch that day, I ordered Imozen Ramen for 360 yen, Yakimeshi (fried rice) for 250 yen, and Chicken Karaage for 200 yen, totaling 810 yen with tax included! It was cheap, generous in portion, and very satisfying. The ramen itself was simple with fish cake, chashu (roast pork), menma (bamboo shoots), and green onions in a basic Chinese-style soup. The soup tasted like a typical Chinese soup base, and the noodles were medium-thick straight noodles. It took a while for the order to arrive due to the long line, so the soup had cooled down a bit, and the noodles were slightly overcooked. But considering the price, I could forgive these flaws. The Yakimeshi had cooled down once, so the taste was slightly bland, but it had a nice aroma and flavor from the sesame oil used to finish it. The Karaage had also cooled down and become a bit tough, but it was delicious with juicy thigh meat and a good amount of oil. Of course, they have a microwave, so you can heat up the food properly. I think the Udon would have been a better match for the Kasu. The Chagayu (rice porridge) doesn't have much flavor, but when you add salt, it has a unique taste that white rice porridge doesn't. The Tamagoyaki with red pickled ginger was a bit bland for my taste. Maybe they're considering our health (laughs). The spinach ohitashi was served with a poached egg (although that menu doesn't exist). Although they brought back the option for rice refills, it seems like the number of customers hasn't returned. The variety of side dishes also seems to have slightly decreased.

Today I had a late lunch after finishing my exam and before going to the driving school for procedures. I went to Imozukushi and they have all-you-can-eat rice back! I had: - Fried sardine for 160 yen - Chicken karaage for 190 yen - Homemade simmered dishes for 140 yen - Medium rice for 140 yen - Miso soup for 80 yen In total, it was 710 yen. I only had one serving of rice. It was delicious! I hope other Imozukushi locations also bring back the all-you-can-eat rice option.

When it comes to cheap and delicious meals at a set meal restaurant, for me it's always "Yayoiken." But this time, I happened to stop by "Imozan" which was nearby. Instead of choosing my favorite side dishes, I decided to go for a set meal this time. I ordered a mini katsudon set with soba noodles and a mini oyakodon set with soba noodles. I paid first and then waited for a while until my order was ready. It was delicious and hot. Also, the takeout bento boxes were surprisingly cheap! They even sell meal tickets, which was a pleasant surprise. I definitely want to go back next time to buy a bento box.

Well, as usual, I had a late lunch. I decided to try the "Imozen" that I sometimes see around. It's a self-service type of restaurant, similar to THE○shiya or Ma○o○. I tend to overdo it at these types of places because I end up taking too much (^o^;) On this day, I had rice (140 yen) with free refills, miso soup (80 yen), stir-fried leeks (210 yen) as the main dish, accompanied by grated daikon rolled omelette (200 yen) and crab stick salad (170 yen). I was prepared to spend over 1000 yen because I felt like I took too much, but it ended up being only 800 yen (￣▽￣) It seems to be slightly more affordable compared to other self-service restaurants.

Today we went to Imozara for lunch. Along the way, my wife and I were warning each other not to over order because although each dish is reasonably priced, it adds up quickly. We arrived and discussed choosing items we don't usually eat at home. We ended up spending 950 yen for rice, a main dish, and miso soup. Next time, we'll have to be more careful.
