August 26th. Today, feeling like drinking alone, I headed to Senba Hashisuji in Chuo-ku. I wandered into a small restaurant called Shoya Hanyocchiyore. Inside, there was a counter and kitchen on the left, and tables at the back. A lively group of customers was enjoying themselves at the back. The owner seemed to be working alone in the slightly elevated kitchen. I sat at the counter near the entrance and looked at the menu. Recommended appetizers included water eggplant, fruit corn, and konoshiro fish. Sashimi options were tuna, gizzard shad, greater amberjack, sweet shrimp, abalone, and sea urchin. Fried dishes included okra, nagaimo yam, horse mackerel, gizzard shad, and dream pork. Hot dishes featured Spanish mackerel, turban shell, salted cod roe butter, and gizzard shad. These were the recommended dishes. Standard menu items included the popular Ryukyu dish, chicken tempura, chicken karaage, and fish roe. Other dishes included dried squid, sake-steamed cheese, pork wiener, and more. Oita meat options included Oita wagyu and Bungo beef, as well as ham and beef frankfurter. Dream pork dishes included salt-grilled, teriyaki, cutlets, and hot pot. The menu was extensive. I started with a high-value lemon chu-hi, which was delicious! It had a sharp taste with a strong acidity but was easy to drink. I ordered the Ryukyu dish and fruit corn. The Ryukyu dish is a local Oita dish that combines sashimi with onion slices, soy sauce, and sesame seeds, mixed and chilled. I also had chicken karaage, as there was no chicken tempura available. The dish was well-fried and had a crispy texture. The appetizer included turnip pickles and one piece of konoshiro fish sushi. The turnip pickles were decent, and the konoshiro fish sushi was excellent. The flesh was firm and had a pleasant texture. The chicken karaage had a good amount of myoga ginger. The hamachi fish had a nice texture and was delicious. The shochu went down smoothly, and I enjoyed it. Feeling good, I decided to leave and head to a bar in Nishi-Shinsaibashi. Thank you for the meal.
