I went to Menya Takamatsu Shijo, located near Kyoto Karasuma Station, south of Kyoto Daimaru. I ordered the limited-time kombu-infused chicken shio tsukemen with a side of rice. The thick chicken shio soup is perfect for dipping the whole grain noodles into. The noodles are soaked in the thick kombu-infused broth, resulting in a very flavorful and creamy dish.

This dining experience was a truly special moment where the fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine created exquisite dishes. The first highlight was the luxurious "tsukemen". The noodles, handcrafted by skilled artisans, had a chewy texture that left a lasting impression. The rich and flavorful pork bone broth coated the noodles, tantalizing the taste buds. Noteworthy was the top-tier "chashu" pork. Slow-cooked to perfection, this meat was tender and melted in the mouth with deliciousness. Additionally, the meal featured "duck rice". The duck meat was expertly grilled, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and complemented the rice beautifully. To tie it all together, a special sauce added depth to the dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. This culinary experience showcased a harmonious blend of simple yet profound flavors, creating a symphony of deliciousness in the mouth. The sincere dedication to ingredients and the chef's skills shone through, offering new surprises with each bite. The combination of tsukemen, duck rice, and chashu is sure to captivate food enthusiasts and elicit expressions of admiration.

I had to wait a little around 10:30 pm at this restaurant on a street that is not too busy. They have a signature dish called Rich Seafood Tsukemen for around 1000 yen, made with whole wheat noodles which were delicious. They provide a large sheet of seaweed as a condiment on the table. It's great that you can add soup by yourself.

I usually always use the main store, but this time I went to the Shijo store near Daimaru Kyoto store. Although not far from the main store, this store has many foreign tourists. I usually always have standard tsukemen, but recently many ramen shops offer "limited edition" items, so I chose the "Kombu Water Chicken Clear Soup Salt Tsukemen" that was very popular last year. I thought it would be a double soup of chicken clear soup and kombu water, but the noodles, which have a texture like buckwheat noodles made from whole grain flour from Nagano prefecture, are soaked in kombu water and served separately from the chicken clear soup. When the bowl arrived, the staff instructed me to first mix the noodles well from the bottom (6th photo) and mix them well with the kombu water. Kombu is rich in amino acids and packed with umami, so it tastes great on its own. Now, I was imagining a chicken clear soup without any off-flavors, but it had a strong saltiness, and when combined with the noodles soaked in kombu water, the sweetness of the chicken and the saltiness blended well for an overall sweet taste. You also get a cute finishing rice to enjoy by dipping it in the remaining soup (7th photo). It's a different feel from the usual Japanese style, and I recommend it to those who don't like rich flavors. A restaurant that you start craving when it's been a while since you last visited. I always order the large serving at night. The tsukemen allows you to enjoy a different taste every time, depending on factors like reheating, adding extra onions, squeezing the sudachi, timing for adding black pepper and shichimi, topping with ao nori, and adjusting the amount of soup. It's always delicious and never gets boring.

In Kyoto, while working with limited lunch break time, I was unsure where to go until a group of 9 people, including customers, came to this popular restaurant. The customers ordered dishes like boiled fish ramen and cold duck ramen, but I decided to order the classic large serving of dipping noodles for 990 yen. Even after not eating it for a while, the unique deliciousness remained unchanged and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The variety of condiments such as onions, black sesame, and yuzu also added to the experience.

I walked around the Gion Shijo area, wondering what to have for lunch. I couldn't decide, so I thought I would take a break at a cafe and decide. But before I could make up my mind, it started pouring rain. I quickly decided to have Takamatsu's ramen with a fragrant fish broth. I like the thin straight noodles they serve. I have a health check-up in October, so I left some of the broth. Sorry about that. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

I arrived before 3 pm and was able to enter without waiting in line. I ordered the large serving of Shio Ramen with dried fish for 860 yen. I had tried their tsukemen before, but this time I tried their ramen, and it was delicious. Takamatsu offers tasty dishes at a slightly lower price, which is satisfying. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

This summer, many ramen shops are offering limited-time summer menus, and one ramen I absolutely wanted to try was the "Cold Duck Dashi Ramen" for 850 yen. Limited-time menus tend to be expensive, so I found this one to be reasonable! It's here! Looks delicious! A row of duck slices with green onions, perfect! Finally, I met it! Let's start with the soup. Wow! The soup is delicious! I could just drink the soup and go home today, it's that good! The soy sauce-based duck broth has a complex mix of sweetness and spiciness, yet the aftertaste is refreshing! The whole wheat noodles are like soba, smooth and thin, yet they absorb the soup well. Both textures are firm yet somehow light! Slurpy and chewy! More like slurpy than chewy! This is as delicious as the usual tsukemen! The duck chashu with a sweet seasoning and the lightly seared crunchy green onions are also great. When I tried it with the "Kuro Shichimi" black pepper blend, it matched perfectly! It was a perfect match! This is Kyoto ramen! Oh, even a large serving would be great. And it's less than 1000 yen for a large serving... When I told the chef in the kitchen across the counter that it was really delicious, he gave me a big smile and said, "Thank you!" He looked genuinely happy. It's really wonderful how cooking can make people happy. The "Cold Duck Dashi Ramen" is available until around September 12th or 13th. ☺️

It's been a while since I visited Ramenya Takamatsu. I usually love their Niboshi Ramen broth, but today I tried their Tsukemen. Following the instructions, I first took a bite of the noodles, then added minced onions, and squeezed some sudachi. It was delicious and I enjoyed being able to customize the flavor. The whole wheat-like noodles had a soba-like texture, which I really like. After finishing the noodles, I added a small amount of aosa and drank the soup. Aosa seems good for the body, so I gulped it down. A 3 o'clock Tsukemen treat instead of a snack!

Nowadays, this popular Kyoto tsukemen shop is considered a representative of the genre, with occasional long lines forming. They offer limited edition menus as well, but their whole grain chicken and seafood tsukemen is the standard. For flavor customization, they provide vinegar, yuzu, onion, black shichimi pepper, and pepper on the table. However, I always wonder if it's worth lining up for. I don't think I'll ever feel a strong desire to eat here. It is undeniably delicious, and the noodles are certainly unique. The prices are relatively reasonable.

I visited the restaurant before noon and luckily found a seat. I ordered the regular size tsukemen (890 yen including tax) and a bowl of rice topped with a Kyoto red egg (240 yen including tax). It was my first time trying the egg rice bowl, which was decent, but the tsukemen was as amazing as always. The whole grain flour noodles, reminiscent of soba, were slurped up with a satisfying sound! At one point, they reheated the soup, and at the end, I mixed the soup with rice and dove in! I left feeling satisfied.

Tsukemen (dipping noodles) regular size for 890 yen. The noodles were cold and shiny, reminiscent of soba noodles, while the dipping sauce was rich and flavorful, with a hint of dried bonito. The noodles didn't get soggy because they were cold, but if the dipping sauce cooled down, they offered to reheat it, which was a nice touch. It was great to have the option of enjoying it hot or cold. I enjoyed adding toppings like onions and black pepper midway through, and towards the end, I mixed the dipping sauce with some soup and added some seaweed. It was a delicious tsukemen that allowed me to savor the flavors without getting tired of it. I could really feel the Japanese essence in this dish.

The interior of the shop is not very spacious, but customers were coming and going, so it was almost full. The taste was light and very delicious. Based on Instagram and other sources, it seems like the specialty here is tsukemen, but I had the ramen. If I go again, I might try the tsukemen.

"Favorite ramen shop near Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma Station, "Menjo Takamatsu Shijo-ten". Tsukemen (regular size) for 990 yen. The noodles made with stone-ground whole grain flour are similar to soba noodles and the chicken and seafood broth is exceptionally delicious. You can also enjoy various flavor variations. My personal favorite tsukemen in Kyoto."

After finishing work, I decided to have an early lunch before moving. I arrived at the restaurant at 10:44 AM, before it opened, so I explored nearby shops and returned at 11:05 AM to find the restaurant full. I had to wait as the third person in line, but the turnover was quick and I was seated in about 10 minutes. I ordered the large serving of dipping noodles and read the recommended way to eat them posted in front of me. The noodles were thin like soba noodles, and had a good chewiness despite their thinness. I confirmed the dipping sauce before slurping up half of the noodles, then warmed up the sauce and added the seaweed provided to it before finishing the rest of the noodles. Although it was a thin noodle, the dipping sauce coated it well, making it a delicious dipping noodle dish.

Tsukemen 890 yen
This was my second visit. I was looking forward to trying their tsukemen, but when I first tasted the noodles without dipping them in anything, they seemed watery and lacked flavor. Then, when I dipped them in the broth, it was a clear soup base that didn't cling well to the noodles. Overall, as someone who isn't very familiar with tsukemen, I was a bit disappointed with the experience.

The classic seafood dipping noodles (extra large serving) with all toppings. The whole wheat noodles have a fragrant aroma and a chewy texture that is delicious on its own, but the combination of seafood broth and onion dipping sauce is unbeatable. Towards the end of the large serving, it can get a bit repetitive, but there are additional condiments provided for flavor variation. It's straightforward and lacks novelty, but it's a classic choice.

A ramen restaurant located near Hankyu Karasuma Station in Kyoto City. This shop is a chain with branches in Kawaramachi, Kyoto Station, Fushimi Ward, and more. Despite being a chain, they serve authentic ramen that is easy to enjoy, which is much appreciated. I visited for dinner on a hot summer day, and even in the evening, it was still bright outside. Orders are placed using a ticket vending machine. The shop was almost full, but I managed to get a seat at the counter. The noodles were thin and made with whole wheat flour, which may be a unique touch. The cold soup had a strong seafood flavor and included duck meat. The duck chashu was delicious and came in a generous portion, making the bowl lively and satisfying. I even thought about ordering extra toppings because of the great value.

I went on a trip to Kyoto and Osaka with friends from college, and we visited 7 places on the first day with a bold style. We ended with tsukemen, which was quite light and delicious. I need to go on a diet. [Access] Excellent, located right above Karasuma Station. [Good points] The flavor is not too strong and easy to eat.
