I had visited this restaurant when it was called "Sushika" a few times with my colleagues before. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the name of the restaurant changed to "Sushikajiro". I had been meaning to come back and try it out, but kept putting it off. Today, since I didn't have any particular restaurant in mind, I decided to visit "Sushikajiro". I found out that their daily special set meal is the most affordable at 800 yen, so I ordered it without hesitation when I heard that today's special was a simmered fish set meal. While waiting for my meal, I had a pleasant conversation with the kind lady running the restaurant. She mentioned that the restaurant has been open for about a year now. The previous owner and the current owner have a senior-junior relationship, and the current owner took over the restaurant when the previous owner decided to close it. The addition of the character "路" to the previous name "Sushika" to become "Sushikajiro" was simply because it looked better in terms of the kanji characters. It's a reasonably priced and friendly restaurant. I look forward to coming back to try their sushi next time.

Sushi and a beer at Maizuru "Sushikaji" Had lunch at "Sushikaji" near Nagahama Park in Maizuru. It used to be a different sushi restaurant before, right? The layout and interior haven't changed much, I think. I had a beer and looked at the menu. I was interested in the seafood bowl, but decided on the sushi set. It was 1300 yen for 8 pieces of sushi. Each piece was carefully crafted and ready to eat as is. The sushi rice had a slightly strong vinegar taste, which complemented the fish well. The quality of the ingredients was great. Finished off with a chawanmushi topped with plum. Great value for the price.

A sushi restaurant near Nagahama Park. I was planning to have lunch around Oyakou-dori after my errands, but I decided to enter after seeing the lunch menu displayed outside. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious at the back.
When I asked about the lunch menu, I was told that they opened in February this year and started serving lunch last week. It was good timing. Since it's a sushi restaurant, I thought I'd go for the "nigiri."
The nigiri set (8 pieces: 1,300 yen including tax) includes pressed sushi and the sushi pieces are neatly made and look delicious. It even includes my favorites like "mackerel" and "bonito." I wonder if they source their ingredients from the nearby Nagahama market.
The sushi rice is blended with red vinegar and the size is just right for me.
The lean tuna and sea bream were both tasty. The mackerel had a lightly seared skin which I enjoyed. The shrimp was large and satisfying. The bonito also had a nice umami flavor.
The pressed sushi was carefully made and delicious. The thick roll and chawanmushi were simple but refreshing. The miso soup had a good amount and overall, the lunch was quite satisfying. However, it might not be enough for men in terms of portion size.

The cooking was cost-effective and I could feel the high-quality ingredients and careful work put into it. Everything fresh was really fresh, and everything that needed to be done was done properly. The wasabi was fresh, the smooth and salt-free homemade mentaiko, the dried young ayu fish, the Thai white fish milt with ponzu sauce, and other appetizers were all satisfying. There was also a good selection of Japanese sake and shochu at various price ranges, which left a good impression. The chef's service was polite and kind, and I felt very welcomed. Having about 4 glasses of beer and premium sake for 15,000 yen was not bad. However, all seats, including the counter, allow smoking! The employees, who seemed to be regular customers, were chatting without masks, which was a bit concerning. For a sushi restaurant, this environment is a no-go for me. It's a shame because they are doing good work. They should at least make the counter smoke-free, otherwise the clientele may deteriorate. Just my two cents...
