Here, I had been curious about a restaurant called Koyonaku, also known as Donburi, which had received high ratings in the past. The food is delicious and the portions are generous, so I decided to walk there for some fat-burning exercise. I ordered the F set meal, which includes a generous serving of soba noodles and a katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl). Both dishes were substantial and satisfying. The soba noodles were deliciously chewy, and the katsudon was flavorful with a large piece of pork cutlet. The bowls were deep and large, providing a satisfying amount of food. I arrived right when the restaurant opened on a weekday and it was already busy with six groups of customers. It's no wonder this place is popular with such good value. I focused on eating without drinking beer to quickly finish my meal. I managed to finish everything and clear Donburi's name. I would probably leave some food if I ordered the larger size, but I still want to try it (or at least see it). Overall, I enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

"Soba restaurant Shibagen is thriving since its opening. I ordered the Katsu Curry Nan from the menu. It was a piping hot, hearty dish with a generous portion. Be careful, it's hot! Even as I kept eating, the soba noodles seemed never-ending (laughs). It was incredibly delicious. I will definitely visit again."

Ordered the Katsudon set (size F). The Katsudon had crispy cutlets with a slightly mild seasoning. The rice portion was about 70% but still satisfying. Next time, I think half would be enough. The Zaru Soba was good, but the dipping sauce was a bit light. The cost performance is excellent! Next time, I'll try the Tendon set or the Oyako Soba.

I went to Shibugen for lunch after a long time. Although I was tempted by the classic curry dish, I decided against it because it was too hot for a steaming hot curry in this weather. Instead, I ordered the simple A set meal (warm soba noodles, rice, raw egg, pickles). It was served in about 5 minutes. The amount of white rice was... it was almost like a sports club's bowl of rice. Oh, so even white rice comes in such a large portion here. The soba noodles had the usual generous serving, but the light soba broth made it enjoyable until the end. After finishing the meal, I felt quite full, but still satisfied as always with this restaurant.

Despite knowing that it would be crowded, I decided to go anyway and when I arrived, the parking lot in front of the restaurant was full. It was just past lunchtime, so of course it was busy. I was standing in front of the restaurant thinking about where to go next when luckily some customers came out of the restaurant. I was able to enter without any issues. I had to wait a bit inside the restaurant before being seated in a tatami room. I had already decided on the F set meal from looking at the menu on Tabelog, so I was really looking forward to it. When I saw the actual portion size, I realized it was quite large. The rice in the katsu donburi was plentiful, and the soba noodles were surprisingly a substantial amount, stacked vertically in a deep container. I managed to finish everything, but my friend gave up after eating about 2/3 of the katsu donburi and a bit of the soba. They asked me to help finish the soba, but I also gave up halfway. When we settled the bill, the waitress apologized and we left the restaurant feeling sorry for not finishing our meals. The katsu wasn't thick but had a delicious seasoning. I can't remember the taste of the soba because it made me feel so full that it was uncomfortable. My apologies again.

The last time I visited, the place was super crowded and I couldn't order tempura, but this time it wasn't as busy. I easily found parking, sat at the same counter as last time, and boldly ordered the soba set with tempura. I knew roughly how much food to expect from seeing others' orders, but when my own was brought out, I realized it was a large portion. The tempura bowl alone was quite filling, and the zaru soba was also included. It was a bit of a food challenge. I started with the soba and then moved on to the tempura bowl. The soba was fairly standard. The tempura was crispy on the outside and moist from the sauce, with a good balance and not too sweet. There was plenty of rice under the various tempura toppings. It was a decent amount of food that required a bit of effort to finish. Next time, I think I'll ask for less rice. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a restaurant I had been curious about, called "Shibugen". I had heard that the portions were generous, so I tried to be conservative when looking at the menu. The lively lady working there advised me that the tempura would take some time, so I ended up ordering the "Hiyashi Nuki". She assured me it would be quick, and what came out was a cold soba dish with tempura bits mixed in. The broth was just the right thickness for the large bowl, and there was plenty of thin soba noodles. Hidden in the middle of the bowl was a sweet potato tempura disguised as tempura bits. I thought I ordered conservatively, but it was actually more than I expected from a regular restaurant. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. The tempura bowl next to me looked really good too.

Curry Nan 730 yen
The curry is thick and has a lot of soba noodles. It got a bit boring because of that.
F Set Meal (Katsudon, miso soup, pickles, warm soba as a substitute) 900 yen
The katsudon and soba are both a full serving, so the portion size is impressive. The balance of katsu and rice in the katsudon is off, leaving a lot of rice leftover. I think it would be just right with about half the rice.
There is tempura sauce or soy sauce, shichimi spice, disposable chopsticks, and toothpicks on the table. Orders are written on a piece of paper, and you serve yourself water. The service is decent.

Curry soba journey, final chapter. The first place I had my eye on was closed until the end of February due to winter snow removal... In March, I finally made it to the last stop of the curry soba project.
- Pork cutlet curry soba 850 yen
Spiciness: ★★★☆☆
Consistency: ★★★☆☆
Soba taste: ★★☆☆☆
Broth flavor: ★★★★☆
Surprise factor: ★★★☆☆
Ingredients (excluding garnishes):
- Pork cutlet
- Sliced green onions
After being closed for 3 months, the place was bustling with customers, with a constant line of cars waiting in the parking lot. About 70% of the customers were all ordering the pork cutlet curry soba. Perhaps due to having tried so many different places, the initial excitement of the dish had faded, but the overflowing portion was as rumored. Pulling out the cutlet and searching for the soba hidden underneath, I was met with a heavy broth and ample soba, finishing the meal with sweat on my brow. Thank you for the meal!!
In conclusion, I had the opportunity to try a variety of unique and well-established shops during this curry soba journey. What stood out the most was that each of the 12 places I visited had completely different flavors and characteristics. The variety in soba, broth, and ingredients truly showcased the depth of curry soba. As Hokkaido's snow melts away, I am grateful for being able to enjoy so many bowls of curry soba during the coldest season of the year.

Yesterday I went to this restaurant for revenge after a failed attempt at lunch before. I have tried to visit this place several times, but there is always no parking space in front of the store, so I had to give up. Although the opening time is 11:00, it seems like they start operating a bit earlier. Arriving just before 11:00 is not allowed. Today, I arrived around 11:45 and decided to give it a try. I almost arrived at the scheduled time. However, the restaurant was already open. Luckily, there was only a few customers inside, so I didn't have trouble finding a seat. I hesitantly sat at the counter and ordered the katsudon set from the soba set menu, which cost ¥900 including tax. It was cheaper than the soba lunch I had yesterday! The food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The soba portion seemed larger than yesterday's, and the katsudon was closer to a normal size, which was exactly what I was looking for. The soba had a good texture and a refreshing taste. It was not necessarily better than yesterday's, but it was still delicious. I finished it surprisingly quickly and regretted not ordering a larger portion. The miso soup was served, but I asked for soba soup instead. The soba soup was a bit light, probably because it was still early. The katsudon was also a bit light, but the consistency of the egg was good. The seasoning of the katsudon matched well with the soba soup, and the rice was tasty too. Overall, the portion size was satisfying. I only have two more lunches left for this year. I will take my time to think about what to eat tomorrow and the day after. The options might be limited on New Year's Eve, but we'll see.

Today, thanks to the strongest cold wave, it was a winter day in Sapporo. I decided to eat warm soba noodles. I visited this restaurant known for its generous portions. Today, I had a set of tanuki soba noodles and onigiri. The soba noodles were served in a huge portion, and there were also two onigiri. I was full after finishing the meal. After eating, I noticed a notice in front of me. Upon reading it carefully, it was an announcement of winter closure. Last year, Sapporo was hit by a disaster-level snowfall, and this year, they are preparing for heavy snow by closing for the winter. The restaurant owner is of a certain age, and the friendly motherly figure is also, pardon me, not young. Even here, the impact of the snow somehow felt a bit lonely.

I went there for the first time and ordered the soba and katsudon set. Normally, at soba restaurants, the set would come with a mini katsudon, but here both dishes were full-sized. The taste was great and the katsu was crispy. There were many elderly couples and solo male customers, and the lady who seemed to be the owner was very kind. It was a nice atmosphere. I will definitely go back again.

I ordered the soba set meal F (900 yen). I was a bit nervous because the restaurant is known for its large portions, but surprisingly, I finished it all easily. The katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) had a generous amount of rice, but the flavor was rich and delicious. It's great to be able to get this much food for 900 yen in this day and age. The pork cutlet was quite thin, maybe to keep the price from going up too much. Thank you for the meal.

The taste is great, but even the regular size portion here is like a large portion at other restaurants. Even with a regular size, my stomach is already full. I came here wanting to try the curry soba, but ended up getting the cold five-ingredient soba today.

Today I had soba for lunch at Shibugen, which I haven't been to in a while. After having curry soba at Bugen the other day, I decided to order the Tamago Toji Soba today. It was served to me in about 5 minutes after ordering. Just like the curry soba, the Tamago Toji Soba at Shibugen came in a generous portion that soba lovers would appreciate. The warm soba noodles had a slightly weaker texture, but the sweetness of the egg and the light soy sauce-based broth enhanced the flavor. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy it until the last bite. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant before and was defeated by the shocking volume of the set meal menu. I had been wanting to have a rematch for a while, and finally the time has come. This is the moment of truth. This time, I ordered the pork cutlet bowl set with warm soba. The bowl that was brought to me had the same volume as before. And the same deliciousness. Last time, I failed to find the right balance between the pork cutlet and rice, but I managed to eat them in perfect harmony this time. I also somehow finished the soba. The rematch was a success. I conquered the eating challenge, so next time, I will try a regular menu item while rubbing my stomach that was about to burst.

I finished my errands in the morning and was wandering around the area near Kita-ku wondering what to eat for lunch. I happened to find one empty parking spot at Shibugen-san, which is usually crowded. Lucky me! I ordered the Katsudon with warm soba. Even though it was busy, the service was fast. Both the Katsudon and soba had a nostalgic taste. And most importantly, the cucumber pickles were delicious. The lady at the restaurant was very friendly and the atmosphere was homely. It felt like coming back to my own home. Next time, I will try the Tempura Don set. It was a very delicious meal. Thank you very much.

It was crowded, probably because it was a holiday. But I didn't have to wait long! The portion was generous and it was delicious! The soba was thin and similar to Somen noodles. I was expecting cold soba with cucumber, but it only had tempura crumbs. There was one piece of pumpkin tempura on top. ^_^;

I should mention that the regular size portion would have been enough for me (^◇^;) It's not usually this hot in May, but I decided to try Shibagen restaurant as I passed by before their opening time. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was already open and packed with customers. I ordered the "large size" as usual, but when I saw the portion size at the neighboring table, I realized that it was actually the regular size. I remembered reading reviews mentioning that the portions here are generous. My order arrived and I was surprised by the amount of food - it was a lot! I managed to finish it because it was delicious, but I was worried about being able to function in the afternoon at work...(^◇^;) Another surprising thing was the price - getting so full for this amount was a great deal. It made sense that the place was full of salarymen.

The thick and hot curry broth is spicy and delicious. I usually order curry soba, but they were almost sold out, so I went with udon instead. It was filled with tender chicken and a generous amount of noodles, so much so that I didn't need much for dinner. By 1pm, they had run out of soba, curry, and rice for the day. It's a restaurant that I feel like visiting regularly.

I went there for the first time. Even on a weekday afternoon, the parking lot was full. I managed to find a spot and decided to order the Katsu Curry Soba. When it arrived, it was huge. The bowl was filled to the brim with curry sauce, and I couldn't even see the katsu or the soba. It was delicious! But there was enough soba for two meals! I ended up being too full. It's more like a curry rice bowl in terms of portion size.
