Pochi Pochi
I wander around Nodahanshinmae's Shinbashi-suji shopping street, thinking about where to eat as usual. The usual lunch prices range from 800 yen to 900 yen. It's a typical price range for Osaka or Kobe. The shopping street is bustling with many people out shopping. I peek into Shinbashi Yokocho and spot a restaurant called Kamioka Shokudo that catches my eye. The menu outside the restaurant offers a variety of dishes such as fried chicken, pork cutlet, grilled fish, simmered fish, and rice bowls, all priced at 850 yen each. It's a straightforward pricing strategy. I enter the restaurant and find a long, narrow interior. There are 4 counter seats and two small tables along the wall in the back. A waitress stands behind the counter. I am guided to one of the tables in the back by the owner. The walls are adorned with many menu strips. The fried chicken catches my attention, and I decide to go for it. However, there is one issue - I always hope that the chicken is thigh meat, not breast meat. If the fried chicken set comes with breast meat, I will have to endure a disappointing meal. If that happens, I'll go for my second choice, the pork cutlet. I ask the owner if the fried chicken is thigh meat or breast meat, and luckily, he confirms that it is thigh meat. The fried chicken set arrives with 7 pieces of chicken in a basket, along with salad, grated radish, rice, and miso soup. I start by finishing the salad first. Eating vegetables before a meal helps slow down the rapid spike in blood sugar levels after eating. Then, I dig into the fried chicken. The skin is crispy, and the meat is juicy. The flavor is well-balanced. The size of the chicken pieces was not clear in the basket, but they turn out to be quite large when I actually eat them. I need to adjust my rice consumption to make sure I have enough to go with the chicken. Towards the end of the meal, the owner asks if I want the coffee hot or iced. Since it's cold, I opt for hot coffee. The total bill comes to 935 yen.
