Good evening ( ̄Д ̄)ノ It's lazy Fujiiyan here~ This review was actually from October, but I was a bit tipsy when I took the photos and then forgot about it... During a recent meetup with ramen enthusiasts, we shared our favorite ramen spots. I realized I hadn't posted about the restaurant I recommended, so here is my second review of Ryumon Honten. We arrived at 7 pm and had to wait a bit before being seated. The interior was nice, and we were served by a waitress in a cheongsam who spoke Japanese, which was reassuring. We ordered our favorite dishes - a cold beer, spicy stir-fried eggplant, shrimp chili, crispy fried pork, and minced meat soba. The spicy eggplant was delicious, with a crispy texture and a kick of Sichuan pepper. Paired with a cold beer, it was heavenly. The crispy fried pork with sweet sauce was also tasty, and the shrimp chili and minced meat soba were good as well. In total, we spent 5115 yen on 3 beers and 4 dishes. After a satisfying meal, we left the restaurant. The spicy eggplant paired with beer was definitely the highlight of the meal. This has become a must-order dish whenever I visit this restaurant. Fujiiyan's top recommendation for 2021! ( ̄(工) ̄)

It felt like a Chinese restaurant in the street, and I was very satisfied with the portion and taste. The sweet and sour shrimp dish was so sweet and crispy that I could enjoy it like a snack. The spicy mapo tofu, which made my pores open, was excellent with the strong flavor of Sichuan pepper. I will definitely go back again.

This is a Chinese restaurant in Kyoto that has been around for a long time. I visited after a long time. I didn't take a picture of the fried rice and dumplings, but everything I ate was delicious. And even with the rising prices, it is relatively cheap. There were many foreign customers from Europe and America. It's about a 5-minute walk from Sanjo Station. I recommend it.

Located a 6-8 minute walk from Sanjo Keihan Station, Ryumon Honten is a popular Chinese restaurant that offers fast service, affordable prices, and generous portions. It's surprising to see a long line forming outside the restaurant after 8 PM. They are open until 5 AM, catering to late-night diners, especially popular among young people. I tried their authentic mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, scallop stir-fry, crispy spring rolls, fried rice, chilled steamed chicken, and pan-fried dumplings. Known for their Sichuan cuisine, dishes like mapo tofu, pan-fried dumplings, and chilled steamed chicken have a strong and spicy flavor profile that is both savory and spicy. In addition to the spicy dishes, they also offer milder options like the scallop stir-fry, not too sweet spring rolls, and well-balanced sweet and sour pork. This restaurant is perfect for those looking for a hearty Chinese meal at a reasonable price. I highly recommend visiting Ryumon Honten. Thank you for the meal!

Today, I went to Ryumon in Higashiyama after work. It was my first time visiting in a while, and luckily I was able to get a seat even though it was fully booked. I ordered the tomato and egg ramen, which arrived in just 3 minutes. The visual presentation was different from the Xi'an-style tomato and egg noodles I loved, but it was still good. Eating this ramen made me crave the Xi'an-style noodles even more. Overall, it was a great experience at Ryumon, and I look forward to visiting again. #Ryumon #ChineseCuisine #Gourmet #Ramen #Kyoto #Higashiyama

I used to like this store and often visited the Omiya branch, but it had closed down. This time, I came to the main store for the first time. I ordered various dishes that caught my eye, toasted with cola, and ate until I was full. Since it's Sichuan-style, there were some quite spicy dishes, but they were all really delicious! Especially the scallion oil noodles, sweet and sour chicken, seafood yakisoba, boiled beef (super spicy!), and pickled vegetable and meat soup noodles were delicious! The sesame dumplings I ordered for dessert were also delicious, hot and full of sesame flavor! I definitely want to come back again!

"The concept for this gathering was to eat Chinese food in the Sanjo-Keihan area, so we visited the representative Chinese restaurant in the area, Ryumon, for the first time. The Chinese food here can be summed up in one word: bold. It packs a punch. The specialty here is the spicy stir-fried eggplant, which I think is made with a lot of sansho pepper. The eggplant is cut thick, deep-fried, and then stir-fried quickly. It was a delicious dish that goes well with beer. But it is strong (^o^;). We also ordered the mapo tofu, which was even stronger. This one is more intense with chili peppers than sansho pepper. Personally, I thought the sweet and sour pork was delicious. It had a sweeter vinegar taste than I expected, but the meat was tender and it was good. The portions were generous and the cost performance was not bad. Whether you can accept this boldness or not is the dividing line for evaluation here."

I had fried rice (¥600) and spicy stir-fried eggplant (¥850). They were very delicious. The fried rice had a perfect amount of salt and was fluffy, while the spicy stir-fried eggplant was crispy and exactly to my liking. The portion size was quite generous as well. I couldn't try the mapo tofu, so I definitely want to order it next time.

Hello! The restaurant opened at 5:00 PM with a pole. The menu is like this: Mapo Harusame, a Sichuan dish with an easy-to-eat flavor, enjoyed with a non-alcoholic drink. I ate it heartily. The famous spicy stir-fried eggplant is a favorite of mine. The fried rice is simple with a salty flavor and very filling. It seems like it would be enjoyable to go with about four people. Thank you for the meal. See you later.

The authentic Chinese flavors were a bit too spicy for me, as someone not used to Chinese cuisine, but those who love Chinese food found it delicious and were eating a lot. The restaurant was packed, with people even waiting outside, so I think it's a popular spot.

I was able to get in smoothly when I arrived before 8 pm for the second round, but it was almost always full after that. The mapo tofu was on the spicy side, not quite to my liking, but the spiciness was very satisfying. The dumplings were on the softer side. The garlic shoots stir-fry had more meat than shown in the picture. And the must-try dish here is the chicken soba! I've only had the simple one before, but I occasionally crave it and end up coming here.

You can enjoy authentic Sichuan cuisine here. The mapo tofu and stir-fried dishes with chili peppers are spicy and delicious, with a strong flavor of Sichuan peppercorns. The level of spiciness is just right. The shrimp dumplings with spicy sauce are also delicious. The taste and atmosphere are full of Chinese vibes, which is great. I want to go back again.

After a live performance at Rohm Theatre Kyoto, I was still buzzing from the amazing seats and wanted to continue the excitement at a late-night dinner. It was past 9:00 pm when we left the venue, so the options for open restaurants were limited. I remembered seeing a place on the way there that seemed to be open late, so we headed there.
"Ryumon Honten" is a Sichuan Chinese restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Keihan Sanjo Station. They are open until 5:00 am, so we had plenty of time. When we arrived, there was a short wait, but we were eventually seated. The staff was a bit unfriendly, but it didn't seem intentional, so we didn't mind.
We started with some drinks - bottled beer for me and a soda with hawthorn liquor for my friend. We reminisced about how fun the live performance was and ordered a variety of dishes. The food arrived quickly, and we dug in.
The Spicy Stir-Fried Eggplant was not what we expected, but it was delicious. The eggplant was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked with minced pork, chili, and Sichuan peppercorns. It was spicy and numbing, making us reach for more beer.
The Pan-Fried Dumplings had a chewy skin and a flavorful filling. The dipping sauce was unique but complemented the dumplings well. The Stir-Fried White Fish in Chili Sauce was not spicy at all, a nice contrast to the previous dish.
The Xiao Long Bao were carefully eaten to avoid burning our mouths, and they weren't as hot as we feared. The Shrimp Dumplings had a slight fishy taste that we didn't love.
The Sweet and Sour Chicken was the highlight of the meal, with crispy chicken and a sweet, tangy sauce that was addictive. The balance of numbing and sweet flavors kept us going back for more.
Overall, the portion sizes were generous, and the alternating between spicy and sweet dishes created an endless cycle of flavors. It was a satisfying meal, and we left feeling full and content.

Fried rice with sweet and sour chicken and mapo tofu for 2600 yen! Great value for money. The fried rice looks ordinary but tastes delicious and the Sichuan-style mapo tofu is incredibly tasty. The sweet and sour chicken is also delicious with its sweet seasoning. The service speed is surprisingly fast. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dirty, but it's okay for a Chinese restaurant. Overall, it's easy to use and convenient.

Today's dinner was at "Ryumon Honten" based on the delicious review from MyRebi-sama. ・Bottled beer 550 yen x 2 ・Spicy Stir-Fried Eggplant 950 yen ・Gyoza 450 yen *All prices are excluding tax. ■Bottled Beer It's a medium-sized bottle of Asahi Super Dry. The glass is nicely chilled. So delicious!! ■Spicy Stir-Fried Eggplant The eggplant is cut into strips, fried, and then stir-fried with red chili pepper, ground meat, and sansho pepper!! Crispy!! So tasty!! It's quite spicy and the sansho pepper really stands out!! I can't stop drinking my beer with this!! I'm not good with spicy food, so I'll remove the red chili pepper. Even so, the sansho pepper is strong, making me sweat gently. (laughs) I thought about removing the sansho pepper too, but with my assist glasses (soft progressive lenses), I can't distinguish between the ground meat and sansho pepper... Oh well!! Let's keep eating!! ■Gyoza Five small gyoza. A bit pricey at 450 yen excluding tax... Let's try eating them as they are. Mmm, delicious!! Goes well with beer too. Let's try dipping them in the bright red sauce... So spicy!! Extremely spicy!! I forgot my towel so I had to try my best to not sweat, but suddenly my sweat glands opened up!! "Another beer, please!!" Sweating like crazy!! The small hand towel was not enough at all... I had to eat the rest without the sauce. There were many other tempting menu items. I can't eat a lot of dishes when dining alone... I'd like to visit with a group next time and try various dishes!! Thank you for the meal!!!

The location is halfway between Keihan Sanjo Station and Kyoto City Subway Higashiyama Station. It is within walking distance from both stations. There is no parking available. The restaurant is a popular Chinese restaurant that has been featured on TV. I visited on a weekday night. The customers were mostly students, with some groups of women only. The exterior is small, with flashy neon signs typical of Chinese restaurants. The interior has a casual Chinese restaurant feel, with a narrow layout. I was seated at an empty table. I ordered the highly recommended spicy stir-fried eggplant for 950 yen (excluding tax) and the chicken and green onion noodles for 650 yen (excluding tax). The eggplant dish arrived first and was delicious. The eggplant was crispy, almost like fried potatoes, with minced meat, Sichuan pepper, and bird's eye chili. In simple terms, it was oily, slightly spicy, and tasty! It made me crave beer. The noodles that followed were also delicious! The soup was thick, with chicken and green onions fried in green onion oil on top. Both the eggplant and noodles had straightforward flavors. However, this simplicity allowed the umami to shine through. It was slightly spicy, typical of Sichuan cuisine, but with a gentle heat. I experienced a new texture and flavor profile. I would definitely like to visit again.

After enjoying a meal at Shinkirou in Miyagawa-cho with friends from Kyoto and my partner, we went to Marushin Kaikan for our second stop, and then we ended the night at Ryumon Honten. It was so much fun! Authentic Chinese cuisine with a lot of Chinese being spoken. The restaurant is uncompromising, bringing in chefs from China. Overall, the flavors are quite strong.
[Chicken Onion Oil Soba]
[Noodles] Thin straight noodles
[Toppings] Green onions, chicken, minced ginger, chili pepper
[Soup] Chicken soy sauce broth
The sauce is quite spicy and there are plenty of bite-sized chicken pieces. The spicy sauce complements the flavorful broth well. The noodles are firm and go well with the soup. The aroma of the onion oil is also nice, and I would eat it again if the flavor wasn't too strong.
[Potstickers (5 pieces)]
The sauce was made in-house and was delicious even when eaten on its own. The tangy sauce was to my liking and the potstickers were refreshing.
[Spicy Stir-Fried Eggplant]
The eggplant was crispy on the outside and moist inside, but it felt a bit too fried. The seasoning was similar to that of a snack, with small pieces of pork added. It had a moderate spiciness and numbness, but it was quite strong. The water served in a pitcher was emptied due to the strong flavors, so I wouldn't order it again.

There is an amazing noodle dish at Ryumon in Kyoto. I have been loving this noodle dish with boiled beef for about 15 years. It's numb and spicy, with an explosively delicious flavor! The photo shows a large serving. I don't understand why this hasn't become more well-known. The mapo tofu has a slight northeastern flavor to it. Delicious! The fried rice is golden and incredibly tasty. The seasoning is perfect! I asked for the mapo tofu and boiled beef to be milder, but the real star today was this dish! All of this for 3000 yen! The Okazaki branch is located near Yamamoto Menkura and Okakita, but I always find myself going to Ryumon.

The main branch of a Sichuan cuisine chain with several branches in Kyoto. Although I used to visit the Hyakumanben and Omiya branches, now... However, the presence of the main branch as a classic Kyoto Sichuan cuisine is unwavering. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can hear Chinese, the colors, the signs inside, the way it's cleaned, everything is Chinese-style. Of course, the seasoning is also authentic. In Kyoto, Cantonese cuisine has been heavily Kyoto-ized as "Kyoto Chinese cuisine," but Sichuan cuisine has not been influenced at all and is rather sticking to its own path. Now, onto the main topic, I recommend trying the "Spicy Stir-Fried Eggplant." This dish consists of thinly sliced eggplant deep-fried and stir-fried with plenty of chili peppers and Sichuan pepper. Why is such a simple dish so delicious? I don't know, but it's delicious, so it can't be helped. Just this dish with white rice makes a wonderful meal. If you want to add another dish, I recommend the Chicken with Scallion Oil Noodles. Of course, there are various other menu items, but I found these two dishes to be incredibly delicious. They are a bit oily, spicy, and B-class gourmet, but for some reason, they become addictive.

Green onion chicken noodle ¥650 + tax. Very delicious, authentic taste, and very satisfying. The portion is generous with plenty of chicken. It was great. Upon closer inspection, it is not a Chinese restaurant but a Chinese cuisine restaurant. As expected. The service was also typical of Chinese restaurants, but I didn't mind because I had heard about it through word of mouth. *A month later, I had the same dish again.
