I went to buy souvenirs on the approach to Ishikiri Shrine. I was interested in a shop with a sign saying "Beniume-yaki," so I went to Otakeya. They had senbei in the shape of a gourd and others in the shape of large coins with the characters "Ishikiri" and "Senryo" baked on them. The price varies depending on the size and quantity. You can even see them being made from outside the shop. The large senbei was sold out, so I bought a small one. When I opened the package, there was a Tengu for some reason. I wonder if there is a story behind it. It was quite a generous amount. The picture may show the size, but I didn't take the photo - my wife did because she ate it while I was working. I'm grateful that she took the photo. This senbei was incredibly delicious. The hard senbei was sweet, with a honey-like sweetness that would go well with sweet sake. I finished it in no time. If you visit Ishikiri Shrine, buying this is a must. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal~♪

On Sunday morning, I went with my best friend to [Beniume Yaki], a traditional sweet senbei shop. The senbei is made with simple ingredients and baked simply, without any additives. The taste is very rustic and natural. Located on the approach to Ishikiri Shrine, this senbei shop is popular for being additive-free, making it a great snack for children and adults alike. I personally enjoy it as a side with coffee.

I revisited after a long time. I was free, so I went to Ishikiri Shrine by bicycle. I bought this "Red Plum Cake" that I had purchased before as a souvenir. I ate it at home, and it was still hard but sweet and delicious. The packaging of the product also has a unique taste, making it a quite impactful souvenir from Ishikiri Shrine. If you have the chance, please try it out!!! (Last visit December 2012) When I was wandering around East Osaka by bicycle, I stopped by this shop. East Osaka is home to Ishikiri Shrine, a fairly famous shrine. It seems to be famous for its hundred visits. There were quite a few people circling the grounds that day, probably making their wishes. Well, I don't have much to wish for, so I finished my visit quickly. Since I was already there, I decided to take a stroll along the approach. There are plenty of shops along the approach because it's a famous shrine, so it's not boring. There are souvenir shops, eateries, and fortune-telling shops lined up along the approach. By the way, why are there so many fortune-telling shops at Ishikiri Shrine? Is there some kind of reason for that? I have no idea. Anyway, after looking around the approach, I thought I should buy a souvenir as a memento, so I visited this shop. This shop sells "Red Plum Cakes" that I saw in a few other shops while strolling along the approach. It says "Main Shop" on the sign, so I guess it's the main shop. I don't really understand, though. Since I visited by bicycle, I didn't buy anything that could break and bought a square one to take home. I ate it at home, and it's hard. But it's sweet and delicious. It's like a taste similar to tile-baked goods but with more of an eggy flavor. When you visit Ishikiri Shrine, why not give it a try? It's quite delicious. Let's definitely go again.

A few years ago, visiting Ishikiri Shrine for the New Year's shrine visit has become a tradition. I stopped by this shop in the shopping street just after the main hall because I felt like eating it after a long time. Unfortunately, the large-sized red plum senbei I was looking for was sold out. I bought a small pack with plenty inside and headed back to try it right away. The packaging had a Showa retro feel to it, and when I opened the paper bag, a nostalgic scent wafted out. The flavor itself was like okaki, but slightly sweet senbei. It was a bit hard, not as tough as Iga ninja senbei, so if you have weak teeth, you might want to soften it with tea or something before eating. It has a simple taste, but as you eat it, a refined sweetness gradually emerges. It's perfect for when you're feeling a bit peckish, and of course, it goes well with a whiskey highball or shochu.

I visited the "Otakeya" shop selling "Hand-baked Senbei Red Plum Baked" on the approach to Ishikiri-san for the first visit of the year on the evening of New Year's Day. The sight of an elderly man hand-baking inside the shop made the senbei look even more delicious. I had never visited in the afternoon or evening before, and I did not remember seeing this shop open until it sold out. Perhaps because it was New Year's Day, there seemed to be plenty of stock left even after 4 pm, and I was able to make a purchase. The Red Plum Baked comes in a pack of 5 large pieces for 700 yen (gourd-shaped and rectangular-shaped) and a small pack for 500 yen. It has a firm texture, a hint of sweetness and salt, and a nostalgic taste. It was delicious.
