A friend recommended this restaurant to me. I thought they were very familiar with Shinjuku, but I had no idea there was a Mexican place here!! The restaurant is located inside an old mixed-use building. It seemed like they focus more on takeout and delivery as the place was quite busy. I love Mexican food and eat it often, but the burrito here was incredibly delicious. It was quite filling and satisfying. I often hear about hidden gems, and this place truly feels like a hidden gem! The restaurant is small, but cozy and I definitely want to go back again.

When you start the Shinjuku drinking spree and reach around the 4th bar, it's really strange how the human body works...your stomach starts growling! From Berg to Nabe to Hameln to the Cat Bar...so this must be the 5th bar! Surprised by the black hole nature of my stomach, I invite my companion to the 2nd district gay bar, only to find it packed on the first day of the long weekend. I backtrack through the muscle-bound men and return to the intersection with Doutor in Shinjuku Sanchome. This mixed-use building is a bit far from the main 2nd district area, but it holds a special place in my heart from my tough days as a salaryman in Yotsuya Sanchome. The master back then was C-san. I was so stressed at work that I couldn't even open my mouth wide to eat, but here, I could truly relax. Age, gender, nationality, religion...none of it mattered here. Unlike my company at the time, where even my poor English was looked down upon, here I could freely interact with people, even helping foreign travelers with their Japanese and treating them to burritos. Burritos are a bit heavy, so if you're feeling peckish at the end of a night of bar hopping, I recommend the quesadillas. The original owner C-san eventually returned to San Francisco with his partner, which I find amazing - to find a partner regardless of age or gender is truly special. Talking with customers here and sharing a drink makes my problems seem so small! It's easy to forget you're even in Japan. How do people even find this place, a bit off the beaten path? Me: "First time in Japan? Why burritos?" Girl from Canada: "I don't know, I just felt like trying Japanese Mexican food!" Me: "Cool! Have you tried sushi?" Girl from Canada: "Already had some!" Ahh, if I worked here, it would be good practice for my English, and I could learn to make Mexican burritos with the southern touch of the former owner! Lately, I've been eating out a lot and there are so many restaurants I want to try or work at.

Shinjuku Sanchome, near Sekaido, on the 3rd floor of a building. Burritos, quesadillas, tacos, nachos, and more are delicious and reasonably priced! Highly recommended!

When ordering, the staff doesn't pay much attention and isn't in a hurry. There are many items not listed on the menu. The taste and portion of the burrito are not bad, but there are many other tastier options available. The place feels like a late-night bar and doesn't look very clean.

When playing around the Shinjuku area, I always stop by here. It's a place where you can get a burrito for just one coin when you're craving a snack after drinking alcohol. I had experience in the US and used to eat burritos and nachos at chain restaurants like Taco Bell, but it's hard to come across them here in Japan. Even if there are, they tend to be a bit fancy or high-end. That's when I found Rainbow Burrito. It's easily accessible from Golden Gai and Ni-chome. You can order through the window with a casual "please". Most importantly, I love the taste. It's cheap but tastes better than Taco Bell. It's meaty, has a cheesy flavor, and even includes rice. And all of that for 400 yen (half size) is a pass in my book. It really fills you up. The staff are also very friendly. It's great that you can buy it even at 3 am. Burritos may not be very familiar to Japanese people, but they are really delicious. Everyone, please give it a try.

Shinjuku Ni-chome is a mysterious town. It is a high same-sex couple density town where gay and lesbian couples mingle. Men kiss men, women kiss women everywhere. You can hear words from various languages such as Japanese (Yo), English (Hi), Korean (Annyeong), Spanish (Hola), French (Salut), German (Hallo), Portuguese (Oi) just by judging from words like "hello" and "thank you". Of course, you can also hear other languages that are not easily recognizable. It is a very international town. This town is a bar district with no touts. There may be some, but I have never encountered one. Indeed, as a straight person, there is not much benefit for a bar to attract me. In fact, they might even have signs saying "no straight people allowed". There are many beautiful women in the lesbian community, but they are not interested in us. There are many handsome men in the gay community, but we are not interested in them. It's a bit disappointing. Previously, there was a street-side shop where drag queens and lesbians frequented in the back alleys, but it moved in the spring. The new shop is on the third floor of a triangular building next to the Sekaido Building. The owner is Japanese. The staff may or may not be there. There are foreign lesbians and Japanese gay customers as well. The interior of the shop has 4 counter seats and 4 table seats, totaling 8 seats. It's usually quite packed, with 2-3 empty seats. The customers are mostly foreigners. The clientele consists of a diverse range of people. The menu offers Mexican food, and it's surprisingly cheap. Beer costs 500 yen. Cocktails range from 500 yen. I'm not much of a drinker, so I'm not sure about the variety of alcohol they offer. Eating here means ordering tacos (1 piece: 300 yen, 2 pieces: 500 yen) and burritos (800 yen). They are made to order, so you can enjoy a beer while waiting. The tacos arrive first. The tortillas are soft, not hard like nachos. You can choose between beef and chicken fillings. The beef tastes like beef, and the chicken tastes like chicken. The portion for 1 piece at 300 yen is quite generous. It may not fill you up, but 2 pieces are a good amount. And they are delicious. Next is the burrito. It is a wrap with rice, lettuce, cheese, beans, and meat. This also comes in a generous portion. And it is delicious as well. I used to get takeout from the previous shop, but eating in the bar is also nice. I see a cute foreign woman, but she has a girlfriend. Too bad. And then there's an Asian guy who looks at me intently. I apologize in my mind, "Sorry, I'm straight," and leave the shop. I don't recommend going out of curiosity. However, you can get takeout and enjoy your meal in the nearby park.

In Shinjuku 2-chome, there is a bar that is quite famous for its girls-only days. It is a stand-alone bar. I often play in 2-chome, and I look forward to having a light drink and eating this half burrito at the bar attached here! The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere feels like you're overseas. It's located in an alley, so there isn't much of an open feeling, but that adds to the nice atmosphere. Enjoying delicious burritos and drinks in a space mixed with various people in Shinjuku 2-chome is quite an adult way to have fun. It will help you forget your daily stress. For those who lament the lack of authentic burritos, there is definitely worth visiting here!
