Hakodate Beer Hall is a beer restaurant located near Hakodate International Hotel, facing the open street of Hakodate. It is one of the representative and famous beer restaurants (beer halls) in Hakodate. I visit this place every time I come to Hakodate, and this is my third visit. This restaurant, like Hakodate Beer Hall, has become one of the main purposes of my travel (laughs). This time, I decided to drop by without a reservation for dinner on Christmas, and surprisingly, we were able to get a table for a family of three with almost zero waiting time. I was expecting to wait for about an hour, so I felt very lucky and grateful for the quick seating. This restaurant, especially during Christmas, has a live piano performance with a female singer, creating a very nice atmosphere. It is my favorite beer restaurant in Hakodate. I am writing this review as a memo for myself for future visits. First, let me talk about the beers I tried this time. We tried a variety of beers, including:
- Tasting set of 4 beers (tax included 1340 yen)
- "Employee Promotion Beer" 300ml (tax included 555 yen)
- "Hakodate Coffee Stout" 300ml (tax included 585 yen)
- "First Love of Strawberries" 300ml (tax included 768 yen)
- "Step of the North" 500ml (tax included 875 yen)
- "President's Favorite Beer" 400ml (tax included 800 yen)
In terms of food, we ordered:
- "Hokkaido Rebun-produced 'Hokke' Kombu-shime" (tax included 450 yen)
- "Duck Steak with Balsamic Sauce" (tax included 750 yen)
The Hokkaido Rebun-produced 'Hokke' Kombu-shime was delicious, and the Duck Steak with Balsamic Sauce was surprisingly tender and tasty. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I will definitely visit again in the future.

The apple-flavored beers were both sold out. The Weizen was refreshing and easy to drink. The Kolsch had less bitterness than expected and was also delicious. The beer was incredibly tasty. The lamb appetizer was very tender. The garlic skewers were mediocre in both flavor and texture. The garlic shrimp had a strong garlic flavor and came with a sauce that allowed for extra garlic if desired. This was standard.

It is rare to find a Chinese restaurant menu at a beer hall. The lamb skewers marinated in beer go really well with the beer. The yakisoba with keema curry is also delicious. There is a wide variety of beers available, including tasting sets. The menu is extensive and it's hard to decide what to order.

When you come to the northern country, you tend to eat a lot of seafood, so I decided to have some Western food for a change! I entered a brewery in the red brick warehouse district at the far end of Hakodate, where they serve Hakodate local beer. The beer hall had beer brewing tanks lined up, and there was live piano music playing slightly off-key, which added to the charm. I ordered a Weizen, Alt, Ale, and Kolsch in that order from the menu. The taste of the beers was localized to suit Japanese preferences, with the flavors being toned down compared to authentic German beer. However, each beer still had its distinct characteristics and tasted delicious! I especially enjoyed the Alt with its moderate bitterness and unique flavor. The food was generally rich in flavor, perhaps tailored to complement the beer. The downside was that the portions were small, and it took some time for the food to be served. It's best to order the food in advance. The highlight was the "beer that the president often drinks," which was the best beer I've ever had! I couldn't resist buying bottled beer as a souvenir before leaving.

The craft beer selection is extensive and there are many dishes that pair well with beer, making it easy to enjoy a lot of beer! My favorites are the fried chicken and mushrooms! There is also violin music, with many nostalgic Showa era songs that seem to match the age group of the customers. It really added to the atmosphere and made the beer go down smoothly!笑

I visited this place on the first night of my trip to Hakodate. As a beer lover, this place was a must-visit for me. The atmosphere is fantastic, with beautiful metal beer barrels and delicious homemade beer. The snacks are also tasty and very reasonably priced. This kind of place is quite rare in Japan, so I'm glad I found it. It could easily become a regular haunt for me.

[Ordered Items (including consumption tax)]
- Kaitakushi Beer (Pilsner) Medium Mug: 1,111 yen
- Akarenga Beer (Ale) Medium Mug: 1,078 yen
- Ham and Italian Cheese Salad: 935 yen
- Sapporo Classic Small Glass: 671 yen
- Calpis: 495 yen
- Hokkaido Log Sausage: 935 yen
- Juicy Chicken Karaage: 770 yen
- German Potato Cheese Bake: 902 yen
[Impressions (Personal Thoughts)]
- Visited by reservation on a weekday evening (regarding beer)
- Kaitakushi was refreshing and easy to drink, while Akarenga had a moderate richness and was delicious. However, I was a bit concerned that the foam had decreased by the time it was served (see photo). I may have expected too much of the beer being in the best condition at a beer hall.
- German Potato was tasty, but overall the other dishes were just average.
- The Log Sausage was delicious, but the skin was a bit tough. Personally, I would recommend the sausages from Reimann House instead.
- The restaurant was popular and the staff seemed busy, so it might be better to order promptly when a waiter passes by.
- I felt that the restaurant was more suitable for enjoying the atmosphere of a beer hall rather than savoring the food.
- It was a charming beer hall that suited the term "local beer" rather than craft beer.
- When visiting with a reservation, the name of the reservation was written on a whiteboard outside the restaurant as "Today's Reservation." This added to the nostalgic feeling of the place.
- Thank you for the meal.

Hakodate City Tram is about a 3-minute walk from Uoichiba-dori Station. Arriving at 17:30 on weekdays means no waiting. They have a variety of craft beers and even offer a small tasting set. I went for the regular size and enjoyed it all. ■What we had (for 2 people) Lamb chops - my favorite, no gaminess, delicious, goes well with beer! A bit pricey but worth it! Genghis Khan - also no gaminess, goes well with beer! Premium sausages - of course goes well with beer! Grilled raw mushrooms Salt-grilled squid soba noodles - perfect way to end the meal! Goryokaku no Hoshi (craft beer) 300ml - beautiful color, fruity beer. Meiji-kan (craft beer) 300ml - strong bitterness, deep flavor. Kitano Ippo (craft beer) 300ml - my favorite, deep flavor but easy to drink! Kitano Yakei (craft beer) 300ml - sharp and refreshing! Kitano Ippo (craft beer) 500ml - got a refill of my favorite beer in 500ml! Banana Beer - thought it was banana beer but turned out to be a beer cocktail. High alcohol content. Dangerous! Overall, very satisfied! You can try various craft beers here, so beer lovers should definitely visit Hakodate!

You can compare different craft beers here. The corn snack appetizer was delicious. There was live music, creating a nice atmosphere for drinking. They sell the corn snacks at the register, so I bought a bunch as souvenirs for my friends who loved them. I wish I had bought more! I tried looking online but couldn't find them, which actually made me happy.

The atmosphere is great, with a wide variety of beer options that go well with any food. The piano performance added to the relaxing experience of enjoying beer. The spacious hall is very comfortable. I randomly stopped by and it was a great choice. The prices are not cheap, but the overall value is good. Ordering is easy with the touch screen system.

Enjoyed live violin performance with Hakodate beer. Chose North Step Ale and Corporate Climber Beer. Fish & chips were incredibly delicious! The tartar sauce was the best. The desserts were large and had great value for money.

- Waiting time: Visited on Saturday at 7pm. We were able to enter without waiting, but all table seats were full. It's safer to make a reservation in advance.
- Order: Tried a tasting set of Kotate beer, grilled squid, and zangi. It was our second stop so we couldn't eat much, but everything looked delicious!
- Impression: The atmosphere is amazing! Sitting at the counter, enjoying a beer while looking at the brewing equipment. It's the best. There was also a live piano and singing stage.
- Cost performance: It's decent. Not too expensive, not too cheap.

Dinner was booked online for a while in advance at Hakodate Beer. It was a great decision. Every restaurant in the area had long lines, including this one. Cheers! I like the Weizen beer here. My son requested gyoza. The kids requested plain ramen. The broth had a scallop flavor and was delicious. We shared some potatoes. I had the sausage. I thought the kids might eat some, but they didn't like the herbs and chili in it, so I ended up eating most of it. The lamb skewers were disappointing. I knew from a previous visit that the food here isn't great. It's also overpriced. But you can enjoy good beer, there are various menu options, and it's convenient for families with children. The spacious interior is nice. One drink wasn't enough for me, so I ordered a second, and a large one at that. The bill was around 6,000 yen. I used up a coupon.

I think this place really enhances the travel mood. Located in front of a famous hotel in the Bay Area, this fashionable warehouse-turned-restaurant serves freshly brewed house beers that are simply "the best." The menu of beers and dishes that pair well with them is quite extensive, and I am grateful that they offer outdoor terrace seating in the sun. The recommended Weizen beer, "Five Grains Star," has a fruity taste and aroma that is irresistible. It paired really well with my seafood-focused selected menu. For those who want to try a variety of beers, they offer tasting sets, but I recommend ordering 1-2 types individually to fully enjoy them, as the foam is often not served in the best condition. They also sell bottled beers as souvenirs, which is a nice touch for enjoying them at home. Unfortunately, my favorite Stout beer was sold out on the day I visited, and the seafood dishes menu seemed a bit lacking compared to the meat dishes. Without these issues, the place would have been even more comfortable. For a leisurely experience, I recommend visiting in the early afternoon.

"Hakodate Beer" - About a 10-minute walk from Hakodate Station - Food log rating of 3.48 - Hakodate's brewery with a wide selection of local beers in a spacious beer restaurant - Recommended for a casual visit on the way to the red brick warehouse "President's Favorite Beer 400ml" for 880 yen and "Sparkling Apple 300ml" for 621 yen. The rich local beer was enjoyable. You can also enjoy the atmosphere of Hakodate. Thank you for the meal.

I used it on the first night in Hakodate. I've used this place a few times, but this was my first time using it at night. So I didn't know how crowded it would be, so I entered right after opening, and everything was fine. The seats are small counter seats for a few people. There is a beer brewing kettle in front of you. Orders are made through a tablet device. This place is the same as last time. What I had was two beers, "Kita no Ippo" (ale) and a beer called "Shain no Shusse Suru Beer", lamb skewers, salad trio, and beer-flavored soft serve ice cream. It cost 2981 yen. The "Shain no Shusse Suru Beer" had a slightly low alcohol content (4.5%) but had a nice bitterness and was a well-balanced and delicious beer. It's the type of beer to savor rather than gulp down. The ale was consistently good as well. I went a bit light on the food, but the salad trio I ordered as an appetizer was good. It included shrimp broccoli salad, pasta salad, and potato salad, each with different flavors and textures, so it never gets boring. Of the four lamb skewers, one was garlic-flavored, which was a bit disappointing since I wanted more lamb skewers. The beer-flavored soft serve ice cream for dessert was delicious as expected! I'm not sure if the alcohol content is noticeable for non-drinkers, but for those who enjoy alcohol, it might be different. I had been drinking all day, so I just had a light finish, but I felt like I wanted to try more drinks. The beer here is really good. Thank you for the meal.

This is a beer hall where you can enjoy Hakodate craft beer! I wanted to try them all, so I ordered a tasting set of 4 different beers and then ordered a larger size of my favorite one. The food is also worth mentioning, with a wide variety of dishes including seafood, meat, vegetables, and noodles, all at very reasonable prices for a tourist spot. The squid rice is chewy and delicious, a favorite among everyone! The seafood stir-fry with scallops, squid, shrimp, asparagus is also amazing! I left feeling full and satisfied, but there are still so many other dishes I want to try, so I vow to come back again!

"I participated in a 'Hokkaido Winery Tour' organized by the stylish wine shop [Lapan] located in the fashionable neighborhood of Honmachi, with the slogan 'Hiroo of Nagoya,' 'Nagoya University students' hangout spot,' 'Upscale residential area of Nagoya.' I flew from Chubu Centrair International Airport to Hakodate Airport, and our first stop was not a winery but the [Hakodate Beer] brewery. Here is the menu provided for the tour participants on that day: - Four types of beer: 1. Goryokaku Star Weizen, 2. Meijikan Alt, 3. Hokkaido Step Ale, 4. Northern Night View Kolsch - One-plate lunch: Hokkaido scallop marinated in delicious dashi and seared rare style, half-fried skewered saffron cod, fried potatoes from southern Hokkaido, tender pork stew, grilled roast chicken with teriyaki sauce, and Hokkaido baron potato salad. After enjoying the delicious dishes paired with a variety of local beers delivered directly from the adjacent factory, I looked forward to the winery tour that was about to begin. Thank you for the meal. P.S. During this tour, we were scheduled to visit a winery established by the renowned old French winery 'Domaine de Montille' from Burgundy in Hakodate Kikyocho. Luckily, on the day we visited, the president of Etienne de Montille, who had not been to Japan in two and a half years, was also in town, so we were fortunate to meet him."

Hakodate at night. I felt like having a local beer from Hakodate, so I went to "Hakodate Beer". My wife doesn't drink, so I went alone. "Hakodate Beer" is known as the "original" local beer in Hakodate. They use 100% natural underground water from Mount Hakodate and produce 350kl annually in their brewery inside the building. The location is in Otemachi, Hakodate. It's only 200m away from my hotel. I arrived at the restaurant around 8 pm, just after the first round of the evening stage performance ended. The stage featured a grand piano and was quite elaborate. I was seated at the counter, right in front of the brewery. While I couldn't exactly watch the beer-making process, I could still catch a glimpse of the large tanks. I ordered the "Goryokaku no Hoshi" (Five-pointed Star) and a selection of premium barley pork sausages. The Goryokaku no Hoshi is a Weizen beer, a type of beer unique to the Bavarian region of Germany. It is made with over 50% wheat malt, known for its delicate foam and white haze. It has a fruity aroma and a soft taste, making it the most popular German-style wheat beer. Indeed, it had a soft mouthfeel and lacked any overpowering unpleasant flavors. It was a well-made local beer. "Barley pork" refers to pigs raised primarily on barley-based feed. The sausages were made from barley pork from the Kitajima Farm in Yoichi Town. Each sausage had its own flavor, but all were delicious, with a strong taste of pork. The slight heaviness from the pork fat was pleasantly washed away by the soft local beer. It was a delightful meal.

It was my first dinner in Hakodate and I found this restaurant on the way to my hotel, La Vista. I had a good feeling about it and decided to check it out. It turned out to be a great choice! They serve hearty Hokkaido dishes at reasonable prices, and the atmosphere is fantastic. It's a perfect spot for tourists. We arrived around 7pm and had to wait for about 4 groups ahead of us, but we were seated fairly quickly. However, it started getting crowded soon after. I recommend making a reservation as it seems to fill up quickly.

Located in the Bay Area of Otamachi, Hakodate City, just a few minutes' walk from the hotel where I stayed, La Vista. Hakodate Beer Akarenga is a charming building with a counter where you can order using the latest style of tablets, despite its old appearance. I visited looking forward to trying the original Hakodate craft beer, made with 100% underground water from Mount Hakodate, which is ideal for brewing beer due to its mineral content.
Order:
✔️ Beer tasting set of 4 varieties - 1340 yen
✔️ Grilled squid - 950 yen
✔️ Prosciutto and liver - 600 yen
✔️ First love strawberry dessert - 768 yen
✔️ Hakodate Coffee Stout - 585 yen
✔️ Natto, green onion, raw egg, minced garlic - 400 yen
Total: 5107 yen
Impressions:
First, share and compare the beer tasting set, each 120 milliliters.
- Northern Night View Kölsch: Beautiful color and a hint of bitterness, very easy to drink and delicious.
- Goryokaku Star Weizen: The white cloudiness is nice, with a sweet wheat aroma reminiscent of bananas.
- Meiji-kan Alt: A deep bitterness and a reddish bronze color that evokes a bygone era.
- Northern Step Ale: Beautiful pale amber color and a tight bitterness typical of an ale. My companion preferred the Alt, while I enjoyed the Ale!
The freeze-dried corn served as a snack was delicious! Next, enjoyed the Prosciutto Liver while continuing to drink beer. It really feels like a beer hall when eating this. Then, tried the grilled squid with mayo and soy sauce. Added a unique strawberry beer, First Love, with a hint of sweet and sourness. The Coffee Stout had a perfect balance of bitter and deep richness. Finished with mixing and eating the natto, green onion, raw egg, and minced garlic. The accent of green onion and garlic was strong and added a nice touch.
Feeling pleasantly tipsy, headed to another beer hall. Thank you for the meal!
