I visited for the first time on September 12, 2023 (Tuesday) at 11:00 a.m. I was the first customer to enter right at opening time, and I confirmed with the staff if alcohol was available during lunch time. I ordered a "draft beer," "eel roll," and "fried eel" as I was interested in the rare "fried eel" that I had not seen much in eel specialty shops. I made sure to order them first so I wouldn't forget after having some drinks. After waiting a few minutes, the "eel roll" was served, freshly baked and delicious on its own, but there was also eel sauce on the table for those who prefer to use it. The fried eel was also served piping hot and crispy, with a strong eel flavor. It reminded me a bit of the popular fried eel in Wakayama. For dessert, I ordered the staff's recommended "extra large eel rice" as a complimentary service with extra rice. Although the portion was small, there was plenty of eel on top, making it difficult to reach the white rice underneath. The seasoning was slightly on the salty side, probably to go well with alcohol. I also had a draft beer, but after the meal, I felt the need for some cold tea to hydrate myself quickly. It was an early lunch with drinks, and the female staff's service was excellent and energetic from welcoming to serving to payment. I felt re-energized after eating eel, thinking it would help with my summer fatigue. When I looked back at the menu photos at home, I found out that another specialty was dishes made with fresh wheat gluten (it was also written next to the shop name). I wanted to try them too, like the wheat gluten dengaku or fried wheat gluten... I must visit again soon to try them! For today, thank you for the delicious meal!

Reasonable eel restaurant, happy that they also have fu. When I visited for takeout before, it was a hot day and they kindly said, "Please wait inside." The service was very kind. I was drawn to a flyer for a casual drink that I saw at that time, so I decided to stop by for a light drink. I ordered the Jusanset and my companion ordered the casual drink set. We each chose a drink from beer, chu-hai, or highball. The fu was delicious, both the miso and the yuba with wasabi soy sauce were good. The eel was soft and flavorful, without any muddy smell. The unaju was warm and freshly grilled, with a nice sauce. The staff were also very friendly, making it a place I would like to visit again. I feel like even though I am not good at drinking alone, I could go here by myself!

I went to Osaka and got off at Hankyu Juso Station. Before checking into the hotel, I decided to grab a light meal and stumbled upon "Unatoto" near the station. While "Unatoto" in Tokyo's Shinbashi is familiar to me, I was surprised to find one in Osaka as well. I entered the restaurant and found that the right side had a counter while the left side had table seating. I ordered the "slightly tipsy set" and an eel bowl. The set included beer and scallop skewers. Before getting slightly tipsy, the eel bowl arrived. I enjoyed scallops, eel, and rice with sauce while sipping on beer. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.

This is a casual eel izakaya near the entrance of Shonben Yokocho. I tried the casual drinking set for 1000 yen. There is also a light drinking set for 500 yen, but I decided to try the eel dishes. The set includes grilled eel liver, kuri-kara sauce, kuri-kara white grilled eel, and a drink. I ordered a highball. The highball was disappointing as it had no foam and the glass was not chilled. The eel liver was delicious and a good portion. "Kuri-kara" refers to small pieces of eel skewered, but here it seemed to be leftovers skewered. The white grilled eel was tasty with soy sauce and wasabi. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food. However, the overall satisfaction was a bit lacking due to the disappointing highball. I hope they improve that. The food is good, but the highball was a letdown. I might revisit if I want to eat eel at a low price.

A famous budget-friendly restaurant named "Nadai Unatoto" that offers eel bowls and eel rice boxes using thick and large eels, despite being foreign-made, has opened a new branch in Juso. Located just a short walk from Hankyu West Exit, down the shopping street and turning right at the first corner, it is a few shops down on the right-hand side. Similar to their other locations like the one near Osaka Tenmangu Shrine and next to the US Consulate, they offer the same taste and prices, with unlimited servings of sansho pepper, shichimi spice, and eel sauce. They also provide a free perpetual ticket for red miso soup, and being in a drinking district, they have a wide variety of side dishes. In addition to the classic dishes like pickled eel, eel rolls, and grilled eel liver skewers, they also serve unique items like "kurikara" skewers with eel tail meat only, eel nuggets, as well as Kyoto-style fresh wheat gluten dishes and oden. It's a perfect spot for a satisfying meal after hopping around a few other places. Check out the video of the dishes we tried: https://youtu.be/wF8x2kSO4Ro

On October 16, 2022 (Sunday) around 9:55 pm, I was really late for dinner... I need to eat something before heading home. I feel like having a rice bowl... preferably without fried food. Hmm... maybe unagi (eel) bowl somewhere... well, there should be a beef bowl chain in Juso, so I'll get off there for now. Oh! There's Unatoto! It's still open! It's decided! Unagi bowl. Mmm... it's consistently good. However, I feel like the double portion offers better value. Maybe that's the goal! Unatoto's strategy is on point, challenging me with the double portion... I imagine a Sengoku drama in my mind as I enjoy the meal. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

There is also an Unatoto restaurant in Juso, just like in Temmabashi. Unatoto is known for providing eel dishes at an incredibly reasonable price, using large foreign eels that are pre-cooked and then grilled over charcoal to give them a nice aroma. While there may be a slightly burnt or charred smell, it still gives off the impression of authentic eel. In Juso, where eel dishes are popular, Unatoto fits right in with its unique offerings. The shop in Temmabashi has been visited multiple times, as it offers a clear and straightforward dining experience. The price is reasonable, and you can freely add toppings like sauce, sansho pepper, and shichimi. The liver soup, priced at 160 yen, is worth the cost. The shop's commitment to providing a quality meal, even if it's not perfect, is admirable. The consistency in their approach, from the minimal sauce at the beginning to heating the dish upon ordering, shows their dedication to their craft. It's a great option for a third stop during a bar-hopping night in Juso. Enjoy!

Today's lunch was at the well-known eel restaurant, Unatoto. I heard that they have a limited time promotion called "Giga Mashi" where you get extra eel on your rice, like a cellphone plan. I rushed over to try it out! The place smelled delicious as soon as I walked in, making me hungry. The Giga Mashi option truly lived up to its name, with so much eel piled on that you can't even see the rice underneath. It's probably three times the amount you would get at a traditional eel restaurant, but at a much lower price. Plus, you get a red miso soup ticket that you can use forever. If you want to enjoy eel in a casual setting, this is the place to go! This review feels like a commercial, but I highly recommend trying Unatoto if you want to enjoy eel without breaking the bank.

Just a minute from the West exit of the thirteenth station. Had lunch here today. The first floor has counter seats and tables for two, giving it a narrow standing bar-like feel. There are seats on the second floor as well. The menu is mainly eel dishes, starting from 550 yen for the cheapest bowl. Ordered the eel bowl and eel skewers. Now for the taste test! The eel is relatively large and delicious. A bit on the fatty side, but considering the price, it's not a big issue. The rice portion is a bit small, so if you're a male, ordering extra rice would increase satisfaction. Overall, it was a satisfying meal! Convenient location just a short walk from the station and reasonably priced. However, there are no special lunch deals, so dinner might be relatively more cost-effective.

I went to Unato Juusan-ten which recently opened. I usually go to the Tenjinbashi branch, but since they opened in Juusan, I decided to try it out. I usually order the regular unagi donburi, but this time I saw the unagi-toro donburi on the menu and thought the combination of unagi and grated yam would be healthy, so I gave it a try! The staff recommended getting extra unagi, which turned out to be just the right amount. The flavors matched well, and since I already like grated yam, it was a good choice.

I think the 550 yen unagi rice bowl for lunch is cost-effective. The fresh fu (wheat gluten) might be a bit pricey though.

You can eat a cheap and quick eel rice bowl here. It's delicious, but the rice was a bit too soft for my liking.

Tomorrow is the Midsummer Day of the Ox, so I decided to eat unagi (eel) and went to "Unatoto" in front of Juusan Station. I had Hitsumabushi for 1,100 yen. The quality for this price is excellent. Thank you for the delicious meal!

After drinking, I got a takeout of unagi bowl on my way back. The place is suitable for drinking, with a wide variety of snacks available. They even have fried potatoes for 200 yen! They also offer a drinking set for the evening. Some customers were drinking inside. It was raining that day, but the friendly staff asked us to wait inside. Most places in Shomben Yokocho were closed due to the typhoon, but this place was open. I ordered the unagi bowl for 590 yen. Unagi has become a luxury item nowadays, even exceeding 800 yen at certain chain restaurants, so 590 yen is a steal! I believe the unagi is from China, but it tasted really good! The slices were thick and satisfying. I was very pleased with the meal! I might drop by for a drink next time. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I joined in on getting a takeout of unagi donburi with my colleagues. The restaurant is called "Nadai Unanoto," so I have high expectations. For lunch, we all got the double unagi donburi for 1,100 yen, which comes with a free extra serving of rice. They also offer other options like the premium unagi set for 1,800 yen or a regular unagi donburi for 580 yen, making it easy to enjoy anytime. I knew beforehand that the eel used is imported, but the fact that they grill it over charcoal in the restaurant makes it feel authentic. For those who prefer domestic eel, they can pay around 5,000 yen for a higher quality option. Overall, it was a convenient and satisfying lunch option, even though it was a bit oily.
