Located about a 7-minute walk from Nijo Castle, this shop is situated in the Sanjo shopping street. I visited around 3 PM on a weekday. The hot milk coffee costs 600 yen and is served promptly. They use a finely ground coffee roasted deeply specifically for milk coffee. The coffee is blended with milk in a 1:2 ratio, resulting in a richer flavor compared to other milk coffees at different shops. They also have a variety of other cafe menu items that I would like to try if I have the chance.

I found a morning near Nijo Castle. I visited for the first time on a holiday morning. It is a charming townhouse-style shop. They offer four types of morning dishes until 11 am and 12 types of coffee. The "Bacon and Egg Slightly Rich Morning" for 900 yen (tax included) was served on a large square plate with bacon, scrambled eggs, thick toast, and salad. It was a luxurious and voluminous dish. I chose the daily coffee as the set drink, which was fruity. The "Blend Tea" for 500 yen was a warm morning. I was able to relax and enjoy it. It was very delicious.

While strolling through a shopping street, I randomly entered a cafe with acrylic dividers at the counter due to COVID-19 measures. The cafe had a retro feel with a makeup-heavy female server who was a bit unfriendly. The coffee was served in beautiful Kyoto-style pottery, but the lack of explanation and the messy atmosphere made it hard to relax. There were also several notices posted around the shop, which added to the unpleasant vibe. Despite hearing good things from locals, I found the overall coffee experience lacking in service. I won't be returning.

I finally arrived at the restaurant I was looking for after being turned away from several other places. The interior of the restaurant had a counter and two tables for two people each. I was not guided to a specific seat, so I chose wherever I wanted to sit. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic. There were various types of coffee beans available, so I wanted to try a special cup of coffee, but it was too hot for a hot drink, so I opted for a Coffee Jelly Float instead. It was served with syrup on the side, topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. I thought it would be sweet enough, but I ended up adding more syrup. It came with a long spoon, which reminded me of my past job. I didn't have high expectations, and it turned out as I had imagined. Time passed quickly while I was there. The restroom was located outside and didn't have a lock, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, it was an okay experience.

The soothing aroma of coffee fills the cozy cafe. I visited around 1 o'clock on a weekday, so there was only one customer. I ordered a cream puff and a hot coffee. It seems like they pay attention to the dishes they use. The cream puff was homemade and only 200 yen, but it was crispy and delicious with chocolate cream inside. They also offer lunch, so I would like to come back to try it next time.

Visited during the morning hours. Located in the nostalgic Sanjo shopping street, this cafe exudes a retro Showa era vibe. However, the interior lacks sophistication and doesn't have a trendy feel. The BLT oven sandwich and coffee were ordered, totaling 1060 yen. The BLT was quite ordinary with a standard mayonnaise flavor and bacon-like ham inside. Eating it was difficult as there were no paper napkins, which was very inconvenient. It's not just a problem unique to cafes in Kyoto, but why provide wet towels instead of paper napkins is puzzling. Wiping mayonnaise off your mouth with a wet towel is quite off-putting. Perhaps the message is to carry tissues! The coffee I was looking forward to was machine-made and not particularly fresh or delicious. The service was below average, making me wonder why this place has high ratings on food review websites. While there are some great cafes in Kyoto, there are also many places like this that leave you questioning their popularity. This cafe falls into that category.

On a Sunday afternoon, this popular cafe is constantly filled with customers. The menu is quite extensive for a cafe, making it hard to choose just a drink. Egg hot sandwich◎ Banana smoothie○◎ Cafe eclair◎○ I also want to try other cafes in the shopping district ^^

Late morning on the weekend. About half of the seats were taken. It seemed like there were regulars and other customers in equal numbers. The Sausage Morning set for 650 yen was fantastic - great portion size, fluffy toast, and delicious coffee (blend). The cost performance was great, and the coffee cups were beautiful and enjoyable. However, I was a bit disappointed when I asked for a refill of the delicious coffee and was reminded that they have a one-hour time limit. I had to rush through the last 10 minutes. If they had mentioned the time limit earlier, I would have rated it around 3.5. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality. ☕️

On the second day of my trip to Kyoto, I stayed at a hotel near Nijo Castle and decided to have breakfast at a cafe in the middle of the Sanjo shopping street. As a solo traveler, I was seated at the counter on the first floor. There is also a second floor in the cafe. There were various breakfast options available, but since I had plans for a proper lunch later, I opted for the simplest breakfast - 3 slices of toast, salad with boiled egg, and a cup of blended coffee. First of all, the coffee was delicious! Even though I am not a coffee expert, I could tell it was really good (laughs). The toast was crispy with plenty of butter soaked in. The salad dressing was just to my liking, and the boiled egg was perfectly soft. The cakes displayed in the window looked tempting, so I thought I would visit again for lunch or tea next time. Thank you for the meal!

December has arrived, and following last month's roast beef bowl, I am continuing with another series. This time, it's all about egg dishes - Tamago Sand and Omurice. The Tamago Sand features my favorite egg omelette sandwich, a Kansai-style dish. Tamago Sand & Omurice Chronicles - Part 7: "Coffee Workshop Teramachi" (Kyoto, in front of Nijo Castle). A fluffy egg sandwich for 700 yen.

While strolling through a shopping street, I came across several coffee shops. I decided to take a break and have a café au lait at one of them. The café had a charming old-fashioned atmosphere with both table and counter seating. I visited around 3pm and noticed they were quite busy with lunch, which made me think they must be popular. I couldn't find café au lait on the menu, so I opted for a milk coffee instead. The cup was cute, and as I looked at the menu, I got tempted by the cakes on display and ended up getting a cake set. The cake I had was subtly sweet with a nice fruit flavor that wasn't overpowering. I'd love to try the other cakes next time - coffee jelly, sweet potato tart, Mont Blanc, tiramisu... The drink set with cake only cost 880 yen, which I found to be quite reasonable.

A traditional coffee shop that gives off a vibe of "I love coffee!" with a coffee workshop. You can also buy coffee beans, so coffee lovers should definitely check it out. The ham and cheese hot sandwich set for 650 yen includes a hot sandwich, salad, and a drink. Of course, the drink has to be coffee! Served in a lovely floral cup, the aromatic coffee will put you in a good mood from the morning.

Took a coffee break at Teramachi Coffee shop. It's located inside a shopping street with a high ceiling and a traditional house-like structure. They had a variety of coffee options, but I went with the shop's recommended coffee of the day. The coffee cup was cute! The cakes also looked delicious, but I wasn't very hungry so I passed on them. The coffee was really good. Thank you for the meal!

Last year during the autumn foliage season, I had to give up on a popular nearby restaurant because the line was too long, so I decided to take a break here instead. The tableware was exquisite, and I heard that they were specially made by a famous workshop. Many local customers were present, and I enjoyed a delicious cake and milk coffee while listening to the Kyoto dialect. The coffee is roasted with great care. I also used the restroom, which required stepping outside and walking through a small courtyard for a few seconds. It reminded me of my grandmother's house from the past. A nostalgic feeling. When I asked the owner for directions to a famous autumn foliage spot, he recommended a better and more accessible place than the one I had planned to visit. I changed my plans last minute and went there instead. It was definitely worth it (at Kodai-ji Temple). After thanking the owner and leaving the restaurant, I realized a piece of my earring was missing. I went back and they helped me search for it, and we found it in the courtyard leading to the restroom. It's rare to lose an earring and find it, so it was a moment of joy. This experience, along with the news of a famous actress being arrested on the same day, will be etched in my memory. I would love to visit this cafe again when I go back to Kyoto. Additional note: I was worried after reading other reviews mentioning that the staff's service was intimidating or rude, but the owner was very friendly and cheerful. The woman who I assume is his wife seemed a bit shy, but I heard that she sometimes performs in jazz live shows at night. I believe she would have a different impression if she became a singer.

Located in the central part of the Sanjo Shopping Street along Sanjo-dori in Kyoto, this café is just a little west of Sanjo Omiya Park on the south side! The area around Nijo Castle is a competitive spot for cafés, with a popular atmosphere created by renovating traditional townhouses. I ordered a cake set (¥800) with a friend and chose the signature iced coffee, which is made from hot air roasted coffee beans. We had a half-and-half of a rare cheesecake and a fig tart, and the fig tart was absolutely delicious. Since it's located under the arcade of the shopping street, it's a perfect relaxing spot to visit on a rainy day or in between shopping trips.

Located in the middle of Sanjo-kai Shopping Street, Teramachi Coffee House is a long-established coffee shop. This time, I purchased a cream puff that caught my eye for takeout. The outer shell is made of coffee-flavored biscuit, resembling a coffee melonpan. Inside, as expected, is coffee custard. The taste was as delicious as I had anticipated. The coffee flavor is really good. Recently, Sanjo-kai Shopping Street has been bustling with energy.

Located in an arcade shopping street south of Nijo Castle, this coffee specialty shop is housed in a traditional Japanese house. The exterior looks like a regular cafe with banners, but inside, there are counter seats on the first floor, and tables, sofa seats, and a tatami room on the second floor with antique furniture. It was crowded with locals on this weekend morning. We ordered a few sandwiches to share, all of which were delicious. However, the service was a bit too intimidating. Here's what we had on this day:
1. Ham and Cheese Hot Sandwich: A morning set with ham and cheese sandwiched and grilled to perfection. Comes with a side salad. ¥580.
2. Fluffy Baked Egg Hot Sandwich: Thickly baked eggs with cream inside. ¥680. Drinks are discounted by ¥100.
3. Cafe's Cheese Toast: English bread with mustard butter and plenty of cheese.
4. Milk Coffee: Served in a lovely floral cup. The coffee and food were delicious, but I don't think I'll be visiting again.
