I used this restaurant for my son's birthday party. Every year, we have eel for my son's birthday. This year, we had a private room in the tatami area for the five of us because we have a grandchild now. The eel was soft and the seasoning was just right, making it a delicious eel dish. The eel rolls were voluminous and had a delicate flavor. Eel has become a luxury dish nowadays, but I think about how it was a common food 100 years ago when this restaurant was established, and the taste makes sense. Thank you for the meal.

This is probably the oldest restaurant in the Namba area. There is a historic photo of the store at the entrance, dating back to the Meiji era, so it's worth checking out when you visit. The dining area is on the second floor. You can choose between tatami or chair seating. I chose the chair seating, and there was no one else around. Due to the impact of COVID-19, there were no customers. I ordered the "Unagi Maki Gozen." The grilled eel in the Unagi Maki was very fragrant and delicious. It was a generous portion and very tasty. I highly recommend it.

On the way to Nara Prefecture, I stopped by Dotonbori, a place I had always wanted to visit. It was my first time at Dotonbori, and I must say it was quite enjoyable. Even though it's important to avoid unnecessary outings due to the worsening situation with COVID-19, I had an important reason to go to Nara, so I think it's okay since Dotonbori is right next to it. While walking around, I found a sign for eel and decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the tender eel and managed to resist alcohol by having a non-alcoholic beer since I had to drive. But honestly, I wish I had a regular beer with my eel dish. Overall, it was a fun experience. The taste was delicious - thank you for the eel dish!

I used the GoToEat and small group campaign to try something I don't usually eat, so I made a reservation to visit. There are tatami rooms and carpeted tables, offering a variety of seating options. I had the Momiji kaiseki for 6,930 yen, which included black beans, rolled omelette, and kelp simmered dish as appetizers. The eel dish was served in hot water with Momiji grated radish. There was also grilled sea eel and rice, a generous portion of eel, pickles, and liver soup. Overall, the service felt a bit lacking for the price.

As a reminder... as of now ('22/March), the menu may have changed. Please understand. It was a weekend night in the middle of Obon. I headed to Tsuru Tontan after a long time. Oh! They have shortened their business hours until 8 pm. I gave up and switched to eel! It took about 5 minutes to walk to the downtown area. I arrived at this place. As expected, there were no other customers inside due to the lack of foot traffic. I ordered the following:
- Grilled eel set meal (top) (¥4620)
- Eel and vegetable stew set meal (top) (¥4620)

Located in the Minami area, Hishitomi Honten is a long-established restaurant known for its Kanto-style eel dishes. With over 100 years of history, the restaurant used to have a traditional tea house-like building before it was rebuilt into a modern building. The Kanto-style steamed eel is known for its tender texture and delicious sauce that has been passed down for generations. The signature dish, Unaju (large), featuring one whole eel, is priced at 3080 yen, with options to add extras like liver or red miso soup for an additional 660 yen.

I went to Hishitomi near Ebisu Bridge in Dotonbori. It was Sunday night and the area was very crowded. Finally, I arrived and was seated at a table on the second floor. I ordered the Unaju (broiled eel over rice). The Unaju was prepared in a Kanto style, with a slightly sweet sauce. The eel was small but well-prepared. Instead of liver, I had liver sauce on the side. I like when liver is in the red miso soup. The pickles included a unique new pickled daikon radish and cucumber pickles. The Unaju was easy to eat and had a nice texture.

[Order] Special eel rice bowl, Medium bottle of beer
I went to Namba on this day. I visited a long-established eel restaurant. I was seated on the second floor where there were no other customers, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The Edo-style eel was plump and the sauce was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Located just across the Hikkake Bridge in Namba, Osaka, is an eel restaurant in a bustling area. The establishment has a long history and is quite spacious. It is one of the few places in Osaka where I have dined on eel multiple times. My go-to order is the Unaju, cooked well-done! I personally love the crispy eel with a nice charred sauce, which adds an explosive flavor to the dish. The eel sauce here is truly well-crafted, enhancing the deliciousness of the eel. That's why I always ask for the eel to be cooked well-done, or rather, for the sauce to be well-charred. Hishitomi's eel is just like that. It's a restaurant that truly caters to the taste buds, with the aroma adding to the overall experience.

Hello. This is Shirai Nissan 168. The 90th target is Hishitomi Honten. The location is in Soemoncho, a lively district in Minami, Osaka, just a short walk from the Glico side. I visited at night, so the area was bustling with flashy ladies and men in black suits. However, once you enter this restaurant, it feels like entering a different world. I reserved a seat on the second floor, where there are several tatami private rooms with a traditional inn-like atmosphere. Today, I ordered the course menu. This restaurant specializes in steamed eel, unlike the Kansai style. The eel was fluffy and delicious. I started with a beer to relax after a long day at work. They didn't have draft beer, so I switched to a highball. When I ordered the highball, the hostess asked if I was okay with using kabosu instead of lemon, which turned out to be a great choice! The acidity of the kabosu goes well with whiskey. I will definitely order this again next time. The grilled eel and highball were a perfect combination. The third dish was eel rolls and grilled liver. The main dish was eel rice bowl. They considerate towards women, serving the eel body for women and the tail for men. The grilled liver was also excellent. As I enjoyed a cup of coffee after the meal, I reflected on the luxurious dinner experience. PS. The restaurant overlooks the Dotonbori River, so I would love to watch the Hanshin Tigers celebrate their victory from here. Looking forward to revisiting. No complaints.
