The sea urchin fisherman runs a cafe during the off-season. The Western dishes are also good, but I recommend the salted sea urchin rice bowl. It is exquisite! The sea urchin is mellow, sweet, and full of flavor, even more delicious than fresh sea urchin. From the window seat, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the drift ice anchored in Utoro. The view is amazing as the drift ice is very close. If you happen to visit Utoro on a day with drift ice, I recommend visiting during daylight hours.

I stopped by this cafe on my way from Shiretoko to Memanbetsu Airport. I was getting tired of seafood and wanted to try something different, so I decided to have lunch here after finding it on Tabelog the day before. The owner is a sea urchin fisherman, so there were many dishes featuring sea urchin on the menu. I ordered the sea urchin tomato cream pasta, along with mini coffee, cheesecake, and gâteau chocolat for dessert. The sea urchin tomato cream pasta had chunks of sea urchin in it and came with a small baguette. The tomato cream sauce was light and not overpowering, allowing the sea urchin flavor to shine through. The pasta could have been a bit more al dente for my taste. The meal also came with soup and salad. My husband loved the homemade cheesecake, but since I'm not a fan of cheesecake, I opted for the gâteau chocolat, which had a homemade feel to it. I wish there was a bit more whipped cream with it. The interior of the cafe was charming, with guitars and motorcycles on display, creating a unique atmosphere that didn't feel like Shiretoko. They also have live music performances, which I would love to experience someday. The owner and his wife were very kind and lovely. I would definitely visit this place again when I come back to Shiretoko.

The inside of the shop has a stylish atmosphere that you wouldn't expect along the Utoro fishing port. It feels like a place run by a couple, with walls lined with Western music records and guitars, showing that the owner loves music. There are also motorcycles on display, creating a sense of "manly romance". At night, it turns into a bar, and they also hold live music events occasionally. But what impressed me even more was the stunning view from the large window! Right in front of you is the vast Okhotsk Sea. During the drift ice season, you can even see the drift ice field. Enjoying tea time while gazing at this view is truly luxurious. I originally came for tea, but after looking at the menu, I changed my mind. There were so many sea urchin dishes that caught my eye. Even though I had just had lunch earlier, I decided to have a second lunch that day. The Uni Tomato Cream Pasta is their most popular menu item. It comes with soup, salad, and bread, with 200g priced at 1200 yen, and you can add more for an additional 100 yen. At first glance, it looks like a normal meat sauce, but upon closer inspection, there is an abundance of sea urchin. The sea urchin is so plentiful that you can clearly see it with the naked eye. The aroma is that of the sea, and the taste is a mysterious blend of tomato and sea urchin flavors. The Uni Curry also features a generous amount of sea urchin in its curry sauce. Is there such a thing as a luxurious curry like this? The curry sauce is spicy and delicious, but the presence of sea urchin adds a unique touch. After the meal, I finally had the coffee I had been looking forward to. It was brewed after I ordered it, using beans from my favorite coffee shop in Abashiri, called "Hazeya Coffee". The coffee was aromatic and incredibly delicious. I ordered the mini size for 250 yen, which was just the right size for after a meal. The restaurant is located on the way from Shari Town to Utoro, just before the "Michi no Eki Utoro Shiretoko". It may not be very noticeable, but I had been passing by it every time without noticing it until now. I checked their website and found out that they are only open from around September to March, as the owner is a sea urchin fisherman. This explains why I never noticed it during the peak tourist season of summer. The pasta and curry dishes have a distinct sea urchin flavor because they use fresh sea urchin directly in the sauce, making the taste of the sea urchin (the taste of the sea) stand out. It was a wonderful discovery of a lovely restaurant that I don't want to share too widely, but at the same time, I want to recommend it to everyone.

This cafe opens from September to March after the sea urchin fishing season ends. The owner is a sea urchin fisherman, so the cafe is closed during the fishing season. The cafe is located near ENEOS when coming from Shari, and inside, you will find a clean and cozy atmosphere with decorations of motorcycles and guitars. The owners, who are also musicians, occasionally hold live music events. I tried the Sea Urchin Tomato Cream Pasta (1350 yen) which had a generous amount of sea urchin mixed with a sweet tomato sauce and cheese. It was delicious and worth the price. I also had the Sweet and Salty Sea Urchin Rice Bowl (1500 yen) which came with plenty of sea urchin and two small potato croquettes. The coffee served after the meal was made with beans from a famous coffee shop in Abashiri, and it had a strong flavor but was not too bitter. Overall, this is a recommended place for those who missed the sea urchin season.

In the outskirts of town, a stylish and delicious cafe opened last year. The owner is a sea urchin fisherman, so the cafe is closed during the summer (April to August), but it reopened for business starting in September this year. I recently visited after a long time and was impressed by the view of the sea from inside the cafe, as well as the owner's attention to detail in the interior and decorations. The atmosphere is chic and relaxing, making it a standout in Utoro. The dishes also reflect the fisherman's dedication to his craft. The menu is full of creatively arranged seafood dishes, such as the "Squid Bread" and "Sea Urchin Tea Rice," which are truly exquisite and unique. The lunch menu (around 1000 yen) always comes with a delicious sea urchin soup that is generously filled with sea urchin. It's a luxurious treat that brings joy. The owner, who used to be active as a backup band in Tokyo, also occasionally holds live performances during the season. With attention to detail and a sense of style shining through, this cafe in Utoro is highly recommended.
