I stayed at Yunohana Onsen in Kameoka before and had a really good experience. I liked everything from the atmosphere of the area to the local food, so I decided to stay in Kameoka again this time. There aren't many hot spring facilities in Kameoka and Yunohana Onsen, so when searching for a high-class ryokan, I narrowed it down to about 3 options. One of them was "Sumiya Kamihouan" where I stayed this time. After passing through the impressive gate, the exterior had the atmosphere of an old hot spring inn, but the inside was clean, possibly due to multiple renovations. The guest rooms with open-air baths are nice, but the large communal bath, both indoor and outdoor, is quite spacious with soft and good quality spring water, allowing you to relax. The private baths are even more luxurious! It's a few minutes' walk from the inn to a spot further into the mountains, so you may wonder if it's worth going out in the extreme cold in winter, but the hot spring surrounded by mountain trees is worth experiencing. Late autumn to early spring when it's not too cold would be just right. Beyond that, there will probably be a lot of insects (;^ω^) The ryokan seems to be affiliated with an Austrian association, as they presented a wine list during meals that didn't seem like a typical Japanese ryokan, and there was a wine bar right in front of the communal bath. Even though I was wearing tabi socks, I couldn't bring myself to drink outside in the cold, but it seems like it would be enjoyable depending on the season. *The communal bath is also designed to be accessed from outside. It might be a little tough for those who don't like the cold. The meals, considering the price range of 15,000 to 20,000 yen per night, are delicious compared to other hot spring inns. I expected to have wild boar hot pot, but the boar meat wasn't too gamey, and the Kameoka beef steak wasn't too fatty and was delicious. Also, the vegetables were flavorful and tasty. Personally, the breakfast left a stronger impression than dinner. The rice cooked in a large pot and made into a chicken and egg rice bowl on the spot, along with an organic vegetable salad, were really delicious. I would like to stay here again♪ ○Dinner ・Aperitif - Red wine - ・Appetizer: Small sea bream sushi, Tanba black beans, Senso karashi (mustard), Fugu (blowfish) stew, Candied kumquat, etc. ・Soup: Crab, uguisuna (Japanese greens) ・Sashimi: Tuna, Sawara (Spanish mackerel) with kelp ・Hot pot: Peony hot pot with assorted miso ・Grilled dishes: Saikyo grilled silver cod, Kameoka beef steak, Ebiimo (taro) dengaku (miso-glazed) ・Hot dish: Seigoin turnip, Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), Yoshino an (sweet red bean paste) ・Vinegared dish ・Rice, pickles, miso soup ・Dessert: Banana milk jelly, Apple white wine stew
