Dad, who can't sleep in on holidays, hopped on the early morning JR train to Otaru. He arrived at Otaru Station a little after 8 o'clock. Tourist spots start early in the morning, with many shops open from this time, starting with the nearby "Sankaku Market." Dad got on a bus from the station and got off at the last stop, "Temiyamachi," heading to the "Nishin Goten Asaichi" market. The exploration of the Temiyamachi area starts from here. There are about 20 parking spaces at the entrance to the market. The food and drink shops inside the market also open early, starting at 4 am in the summer. By the way, in Otaru city, there are many sandwich shops that open at 4 am and traditional Japanese sweet shops that open at 8 am. It's a city for early risers. Dad visited the "Asaichi Shokudo" (Morning Market Cafeteria)... Locally, the store is known by its old name "Nonnon." There are two entrances inside the market and one outside. The seating capacity is not large, with five counter seats and one four-person table in the middle. Upon entering the restaurant, there were only three empty seats available. The water and tea are self-service, and the order was the "Morning Market Set Meal @1,100 yen." The food was served in about 10 minutes, consisting of "grilled mackerel, sashimi, salad, pickles, white rice, miso soup." The mackerel, grilled to perfection with crispy skin and tender flesh, had just the right amount of saltiness. The sashimi included "sweet shrimp, white fish, octopus," all fresh but average in taste. The only thing that stood out was the "white rice" made from rice harvested in nearby areas such as Niseko, Niiki, and Akai River, as stated in the menu. Personally, I like Ransetsu rice and eat it regularly, so I can say that the taste was spot on, cooked perfectly. Overall, it wasn't bad, but the value for money was a bit lacking. Thank you for the meal.
