I knew about this place for a while but was a bit hesitant to try it out. However, I recently saw an article mentioning that the chain of eel restaurants is expanding, so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the eel rice bowl for 1,580 yen. The portion was generous with two large pieces of eel, just like in the picture. Now, onto the taste...it was delicious! The eel was soft and tender, and the sauce was also very tasty. I was a bit skeptical about the cheaper eel, but this was definitely worth it. The only downside was that the skin could have been a bit crispier, but that's forgivable. However, I couldn't help but wonder if I made the right choice with my order. The eel rice bowl for 590 yen and the eel rice for 960 yen both had the same pieces of eel. So, the eel rice bowl would have been a better deal at 1,550 yen. Despite that, I still think this place is a solid choice for eel lovers.

I heard that you can enjoy eel at a cheap price, so I visited this restaurant today. I ordered the "Unadon Giga Plus" for 1200 yen, which is currently available for a limited time. The eel was already cut into small pieces, so there was no fishy smell. The rice was a bit sticky. There weren't many people, so I was able to eat smoothly. Feel free to stop by and give it a try!

Dancing prices! There were only foreign staff, but the service was great! The drinks and food are very cheap! Even if you order the best eel rice bowl, it's only about 2,500 yen. The total bill for two people was about 4,000 yen! The eel skewer platter was also surprising at around 1,000 yen. I'm not sure if there were only foreign customers by chance, but we were able to enjoy our meal quietly and comfortably.

I missed eating eel on the weekend of the Ox Day, so I decided to go to this restaurant. I ordered the special menu for Ox Day, the double-sized eel bowl (tax included 1,100 yen). The eel is very tender. It's a bit too tender, so it lacks the crispy grilled flavor. But considering the price, it's not bad for what you get.

I visited the Honmachi store following the Umeda store. The beer set includes edamame and boneless fried chicken. This place is spacious with a wide variety of menu options, giving off a casual izakaya vibe. Unlike Umeda, you can order normally without using food tickets. We enjoyed beer with items like grilled chicken skewers and grilled pork innards. The beer being Premium Malts is a big plus. We also took home an eel bowl for our last dish. When we ordered it inside the store, they brought it to our table, and even with the eel bowl to go, the total cost was less than 3,000 yen per person, making it a casual and enjoyable experience.

I visited the Unatoto Osaka Honmachi store, located a little north of Honmachi. It is a chain restaurant with locations nationwide, but I was happy to find this one and try their eel rice bowl for only 590 yen. It was a great deal and I enjoyed my meal. Thank you.

Catchy phrase: "Affordable, quick, delicious Unagi (eel) at Unatoto. The Unagi, marinated in a special sauce, exudes the aroma of charcoal grilling, offering a sense of happiness. Drawn in by the fluffy white smoke emanating from the eaves, one can't help but crave it even more. Double Unagi Bowl ¥1100, Umaki (grilled eel skewer) ¥380, Unatoto Salad ¥500. Both New Chitose and Itami airports were crowded. Feeling exhausted, I stumbled upon Unatoto at 20:40. Encouraged by the shining signboard, I entered and was greeted by a friendly young man. I mustered the courage to try their signature dishes. Resisting the temptation for a free extra large rice portion, I opted for a regular size. I also couldn't resist ordering the budget-friendly Umaki. As I waited, I nibbled on the pickled vegetables and sipped on the refillable tea. The Caesar-style salad with chopped Unagi was a nice touch. When the Unagi bowl arrived, I savored the visual appeal of the ¥1100 dish. The Unagi, whether whole or chopped, had a firm texture and was delicious with a generous sprinkling of powdered sansho pepper. Mixing in the salad and tamagoyaki (grilled egg) with the rice, I enjoyed every bite. By the end, I was pleasantly full. Despite the initially empty restaurant, it filled up quickly with a diverse crowd of solo diners, couples, and groups. The restaurant's popularity across Kanto and Kansai regions is evident. The value sets, including the liver sashimi, are also worth trying. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal."

I don't think it was at all, but the rice smelled and looked like microwave rice. I ordered the cheapest bowl for 590 yen, liver sashimi, and eel roll set. The liver sashimi was too thin and smelled like water, haha. When I tried the bowl, especially... The eel roll exceeded my expectations in juiciness in the center, but the outside was dry and disappointing...! It's reasonable, though. Maybe it's good when you're in the mood for sweet, thick sauce. I thought the eel for 590 yen was reasonable. The service was average and good!

When you come out of exit 2 of Hommachi Station on the Midosuji Line, you will see Midosuji Street in front of you. Turn left and you will reach a traffic light on Midosuji Street, where you should turn right. Keep going straight into the building area. Turn right at the second passage and walk about 100 meters, and you will see it. I've always wanted to try the delicious looking eel dishes with reasonable prices posted on the entrance every time I pass by. Finally, I made it here. It was crowded during lunchtime, showing its popularity. Unlike the eel bowls at beef bowl chain restaurants, this one has no bones, making it easy to eat.

The double portion of rice topped with charcoal-grilled eel at this price point is definitely great value for money! Unlike the eel at major beef bowl chains, this eel is not slimy and has a slightly crispy yet tender texture, providing a satisfying dining experience. Finally, drizzling the eel sauce over the rice was a delicious way to finish the meal.

I visited "Unatoto Osaka Honmachi" in Honmachi for the first time. I had a craving for eel that day, so I decided to stop by after work. I have been to Unatoto Umeda in Osaka before. This time, I ordered the double eel bowl set. It came with two pieces of eel, extra rice for free, miso soup, and pickles. The fluffy grilled eel soaked in sauce went well with the rice. The price was reasonable for the portion. The taste was average. Even though I ordered extra rice, I finished it quickly. It's a casual eel restaurant where you can easily drop by.

I went for the "extra-large rice" option this time after my previous failure. It was a luxurious meal, costing about 1.5 times my usual lunch budget. The smoke from grilling the eel filled the air, tempting everyone around with its delicious aroma. The restaurant was almost full, probably due to the arrival of spring and the love for eel among the customers. The two thick slices of eel glistened in the sauce, and I sprinkled some ground sansho pepper on them. The eel was tender and the sweetness of the sauce lingered in my mouth. I quickly finished the liver and salad, and savored the delicious rice, reportedly a special selection from Uonuma, Niigata Prefecture. The lingering smoke flavor stuck to my clothes and face, even after returning to work. Thanks to the extra-large rice, I left the restaurant feeling satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

"Has unagi-don evolved, or something like that?" That's what I thought when I found this sukiyaki-style unagi-don at a restaurant on this day. Personally, I had tried a limited-time unagi-don with raw egg (technically a hot spring egg since it was for takeout) at a different store recently, but on this day in late October at this restaurant, I found an upgraded version of it. It was the "Mushroom-packed Unasuki-don" that I ordered along with the "Crispy Five-piece Set" and "Sansho Sour". This unagi-don features grilled eel, mushrooms, raw egg, etc., giving it a sukiyaki-style twist as a limited-time menu. When it comes to unique dishes with eel, I once had eel-topped bukkake udon at Marugame Seimen, but personally, this one left a bigger impression. Just like the broth of the bukkake udon, the sukiyaki sauce used for seasoning the mushrooms and thick tofu in this bowl had a flavor similar to the typical eel sauce, so overall, there was no particular sense of discord. I felt that the rich sauce complemented the flavor of the eel, enhanced by the refreshing taste of the green onions and the smoothness of the egg. As for the "Crispy Five-piece Set" and "Sansho Sour" that I ordered together, "Crispy" refers to the offal and fins of the eel skewered or wrapped and grilled after filleting. The texture is different from the usual eel meat in kabayaki, and this assortment allows you to enjoy it with various seasonings. And the "Sansho Sour" is a sake flavored with sansho pepper, giving a subtle aroma that pairs well with the bowl and skewers. The sale of this sukiyaki-style unagi-don is until 11/7. It seems that some stores do not carry it, but for those who enjoy eel, sukiyaki, and teriyaki, please consider trying it out.

Unadon Double Pork Miso Soup Set at Unatoto @ Honmachi
I was planning to go to a restaurant in Kawaramachi, but there was a long line in front of the store, so I decided to move to Azuchimachi. When I started to feel tired of walking, I saw a flag waving for unadon. Is this an izakaya that specializes in unadon? I entered the store, and it turned out to be Unatoto. You don't see this kind of izakaya-style Unatoto in Tokyo. I ordered the Unadon Double Pork Miso Soup Set for 1270 yen. It arrived in no more than 10 minutes. The pork soup set came with miso soup and pickles. The double unadon looked small at first, but once I started eating, it had a decent volume. Of course, the eel was worth the price. From my perspective, I could see the Unatoto sign. Thank you for the meal.

For lunch, I had the limited-time special Unagi (eel) Moon-viewing Bowl with plenty of eel. The Moon-viewing Bowl was 1000 yen and the red miso soup was 110 yen. It was very filling and fluffy! I chose the Moon-viewing Bowl, which had eel with sweet sauce, egg, and green onions all together, and it was amazing. The table also had pickled vegetables as a complimentary accent, which was delicious to eat as well. Perfect for a break during work or for lunch! They also have eel bowls starting from 550 yen, so it's affordable. Depending on the time, there might be a line, but the turnover is fast.

This is a chain restaurant specializing in eel dishes in Honmachi. I have become able to eat most things as an adult, but I still hesitate when it comes to eel... It's really great to have a place like Unatoto where you can enjoy eel dishes at a reasonable price. It's a good time when you can easily have eel for lunch... I always have the double eel bowl and eel on rice at Unatoto, and the eel is soft and delicious. Having domestic eel is a luxury for me, so I treat myself to Unatoto once a month as a reward.

Sometimes I feel like eating eel. There's a place called Unatoto where you can get a double eel bowl for 1000 yen. And on top of that, you can get a free extra serving of rice. It's a great deal for salarymen. Having an eel bowl for lunch always leaves me satisfied. I've been here about 5 times already. While high-end eel restaurants are great, I think this place offers good value for everyday use. Thank you for the meal!

"Oh, there's a menu item with a plus sign." That was the phrase that caught my attention and led me to stop by this restaurant, where I found an affordable and generous portion of eel rice. That evening, near Honmachi Station in Osaka, I tried the "Unadon Giga Plus," a limited-time menu item at this eel specialty restaurant. Their "Unadon" refers to an eel bowl with finely chopped grilled eel topped with chopped seaweed (similar to hitsumabushi without the broth). I learned from the staff that last year in 2020, they introduced a menu item called "Unadon Giga" which increased the amount of eel in the regular "Unadon" by about 3 times. This year in 2021, they released the "Unadon Giga Plus," which further increased the amount of eel to about 4 times that of the regular "Unadon." The regular "Unadon" is priced at ¥550 per serving (as of 2/22/2021), which is quite reasonable, but some may find the amount of eel insufficient. However, with the "Unadon Giga Plus," most people will feel satisfied with the ample amount of eel. Additionally, with such a generous portion of chopped grilled eel, I was able to enjoy every last bite of eel until the end (I have personally experienced finishing the eel first and being left with a large amount of rice only...). By the way, at "Unato," they have a signature menu item called "Bikkuri Juu" which is a hearty eel rice dish with a whole eel placed on top, priced at ¥2200 per serving (as of 2/22/2021). While the visual impact may be greater with the "Bikkuri Juu," many people may find the "Unadon Giga Plus" more appealing due to its comparable volume at half the price (laughs). With the current demand for meals that boost immunity, the "Unadon Giga Plus," loaded with Vitamin D-rich grilled eel, could be the perfect menu choice. This menu is available at select stores for a limited time until 2/28. If you have the chance, give it a try.

First of all, it's amazing that they can offer eel at this price. It's not good to judge without trying, so I decided to give it a shot. In order to offer it at a low price, they shouldn't be too particular about using domestic eel or charcoal grilling. The sauce should be thick and sweet, with the power to envelop everything. Steaming the skin makes it somewhat soft, so the texture is not bad. The flavor of the eel? It's hard to tell with the strong sauce. There is pickled vegetables on the table, don't expect high-end pickles like Nara pickles. Are they included in the separately sold pickles? They generously sprinkle on the sansho pepper and shichimi spice. But they can't compete with the thickness of the sauce. Even though it's an eel restaurant, they don't offer grilled eel without sauce. Is it because eating it with this strong sauce is assumed? The liver is quite small in the liver dish. I got a free ticket for red miso soup, but I don't plan on using it in the future. Am I the only one who craves strong coffee after the meal? The biggest letdown for me was the sauce! Would it be a failure if they made this sauce a bit lighter and crisper? Would they lose? I don't know where it's from, but if it's domestic, it would cost about 2-3 times more, so some people might find this sufficient.

I visited a restaurant called "Unatoto" that I had never been to before. It is famous for serving eel dishes for just one coin. Although I didn't have high expectations due to the low price, a trusted food reviewer recommended it, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the "Unadon Double" for 1,000 yen, which looked more satisfying than the 550 yen option. The eel itself was not bad, and it exceeded my expectations. Personally, I found the sauce a bit too strong, but overall, I think the satisfaction level for 1,000 yen was worth it. If it's near me during lunchtime, I would consider going back again.
