I always go on a trip on the 30th and 31st when the end of the year approaches, but this year, I booked a 2-night, 3-day trip to Yugawara Onsen and Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture on the 25th, 26th, and 27th, coinciding with my birthday, three months in advance. This may have been a sign from above, as the third wave of COVID-19 was raging and the GoTo Travel campaign was canceled. However, I was able to go on the last possible date to use GoTo Travel without any issues. On the first day of my birthday, I wanted to eat the "Unagi Hot Pot Rice" at my favorite restaurant in Tokyo, Norebi, called "Hyorokutei", so I stayed at Fujiya Ryokan in Yugawara Onsen and arrived with a friend by rental car from Atami Station after 2 pm. We were guided to a room in the registered tangible cultural property, the two-story "Main Building" built in Taisho 12, and enjoyed the "Unagi Hot Pot Course" at the restaurant "Hyorokutei" on the premises. At the end, the staff brought out dessert and said, "Happy Birthday!" It was a surprise with fruits and sweets piled high. I hadn't mentioned my birthday at the inn, but it turned out to be a surprise birthday celebration arranged by my friend. Immediately after that, the landlady came and handed me a dignified paper bag, saying, "I have received a birthday gift from Mr. ◯◯." Inside was a "Merry Christmas & Happy Birthday Card" and "Lindt Chocolat Cafe Lumine Tachikawa Store" Lindt Meisterschocolatier Selection 4 types of 4 pieces each: Truffle Milk, Truffle Matcha, White Coffee Praline, Dark Burnt Brown cylindrical paper container with gold trim and pattern, and a gold ribbon tied, it was a very luxurious gift. My friend said, "I made it small so you can eat it right away and it won't take up space in your luggage." I carefully brought it back to Osaka and enjoyed it with a hot cup of coffee the next day. "Lindt" is a famous Swiss chocolate brand that celebrated its 175th anniversary this year and has been in Japan for 10 years. By the way, a chocolatier is a chocolate craftsman. The moment I opened the box, I couldn't help but exclaim at the beautiful assortment of chocolates. The "Truffle Milk" had a crispy outside and a soft inside with a smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture and a gentle and elegant sweetness. The "Truffle Matcha" with vodka had an excellent match of matcha and white chocolate, creating a deep and profound taste. The "Praline White Coffee" had a coffee liqueur ganache that tasted like a cafe au lait, and the bitterness and depth of the bitter chocolate with the cherry liqueur Kirsch was my favorite. According to Lindt's website, this product is a masterpiece created by Lindt's Meisterschocolatier, highlighting Lindt's deep love for chocolate and high level of skill. Each piece is carefully selected to match milk, dark, and white chocolate, as well as the elegant flavors of selected spirits, creating a blissful experience. It is a perfect gift for your loved ones. Unlike a loved one, I have become close to "Kinako-san," a handsome, reliable, humorous, and skilled cook I met through Tabelog, who always takes care of me in various situations. I am retired and getting more forgetful by the day, but my friend is still actively traveling all over Japan for work, finding interesting art museums and charming cafes in each place, and is a talented, caring, and elegant person. Thank you so much, ◯◯. Thank you for the feast. (●^o^●)
