On a weekday afternoon, I visited Rausu town. This day, I had a specific destination in mind and headed towards Honcho area. I parked my car in the appropriate spot and walked towards the restaurant with a flag displayed outside. However, to my surprise, there was no entrance (-ω-;). I circled around the restaurant and all I could see were a large group of stray cats. They seemed to be thriving and surviving well (ΦωΦ). So, I decided to give up and since it had been a while since I last visited this place, I left. The location is off Route 87 towards the tip of the Shiretoko Peninsula, take a left at the intersection behind CVS Seicomart Fujimi store, and the restaurant will appear on your right shortly after. It's easy to find, but the road is narrow so I recommend using a navigation system. The parking lot has space for about 3 cars in front of the restaurant, and make sure to park according to the town's rules. I had visited this place twice before at night, with the last visit being about a year ago. At that time, I did not have any photos and had not written a review yet. However, I had received information from a local that they have a lunch menu here! So, I had planned to visit for lunch at some point. It was 1:15 PM and there was one group of 3 customers already seated (no other customers). The interior of the restaurant was very clean, with 4 counter seats and 3 table seats in a raised area, as well as private rooms and a large hall for parties at the back. The kitchen was manned by a serious-looking head chef and a lively hostess, and a young couple who seemed to have just returned from outside greeted me enthusiastically. This restaurant is known among locals as "Shirasaka-san" and is run by Shirasaka Seinikuten, known for serving high-quality meat. When it comes to meat, this is the go-to place in town. I quickly looked at the menu, and the prices for the meat were generally reasonable. And there it was! The only lunch menu available - the yakiniku set. Without hesitation, I ordered it. The gas stove was quickly lit, and the meat, consisting of sagari and Genghis Khan cuts, arrived within 3 minutes. The thickly sliced meat was very tender, and even when grilled, you could feel the quality of the meat. The Genghis Khan had a unique smell, was light, and paired perfectly with the sauce. Of course, the kimchi and miso soup were also well-prepared. In a fishing town like Rausu, there may be more demand for yakiniku among locals, but as far as I know, this is the only yakiniku restaurant in town. However, here you can enjoy good quality meat at a reasonable price, and be fully satisfied, so it's a successful establishment in its own right. Thank you for the meal.
