There used to be a bakery called "Rapan" with several stores around Juso area. They were well-loved by the locals, with TV commercials featuring a catchy jingle "Pan Pan Pan, Rapan no Pan♪". Now, there's only one remaining in the south of Juso Park called "Rapan An". One of the eateries using Rapan's breadcrumbs is "Sakusaku" in Toyotsu-cho, a skewered cutlet restaurant. Today, I visited for the first time with friends from other industries. It's a bit of a walk from Esaka Station, making it a hidden gem for a casual drink. They open at 5 pm, and when we arrived around 5:30, there were already two customers. The counter has about 7 seats, and there are additional terrace-like tables with vinyl sheets set up outside, accommodating around 3 groups of 3. The counter is non-smoking (IQOS allowed), while the terrace allows smoking. They mentioned that when it gets crowded, they close the door between the terrace and counter for complete separation, but it was open when we were there. We decided to sit at the end of the counter and move to the terrace only when smoking. We started with the "Tipsy Set" which included (Potato Salad) and (Doteyaki) for each of us. This set, available until 7 pm, comes with a draft beer (390 yen) or chu-hi (350 yen), and either the potato salad (250 yen) for 500 yen, or the doteyaki (380 yen) for 600 yen. It's a great deal for a casual drink. We then ordered skewers by writing on a paper provided. We got the "Beef Cutlet," "Quail Sausage," "Bacon Tomato" each for 2, and the "Sakusaku Set" for sharing. The cutlets were light and crispy, thanks to using Rapan's breadcrumbs and okara powder. The homemade sauce, a blend of chicken broth, red wine, and miso, was slightly light and paired perfectly with the cutlets. The sauce bottle on the table allowed for easy refills. The cozy atmosphere and delicious food made us order more skewers and beers than planned. The restaurant also had orders coming in from delivery services like Demae-can and Uber Eats, showing that many people enjoy their skewers at home. It was a delightful experience chatting with the female manager about eateries in the Juso area. #Esaka #SkeweredCutlet #CasualDrink
