I used to see this place on TV and always thought "I want to go there someday," but I never got the chance until now! The restaurant is located just a few seconds walk from Minamikokura Station. The owner had an accident and the store was closed for a while, but they reopened for business on January 31, 2020. This time, I ordered the "Joryo Set 1100 yen" which includes soy sauce-flavored chicken pieces (about 500g of thigh and breast meat). The prices seem to have changed since my visit, so the menu in the photo is the most up-to-date! Lately, I've found that many places make their fried chicken too salty, and I feel satisfied after just 2 or 3 pieces. But the fried chicken here was delicious with a great flavor and I could eat as many as I wanted without feeling overwhelmed. This time, I ordered for takeout by phone and they prepared the freshly fried chicken for me at the scheduled time. You can also dine in at the restaurant, and I'm curious about their chanko nabe (sumo wrestler's hot pot) as well. It's been a while since I visited the Minamikokura Station area, and I noticed some new shops popping up here and there. It seems like you could easily do a pub crawl just around Minamikokura Station! Thank you for the delicious meal!

I wrote about this elsewhere, but I was surprised to see that there are fried chicken shops all over the place in Kitakyushu. While they are not always packed, there are always a steady number of customers. It's kind of like the takoyaki shops in Osaka. This particular shop is located in front of Nishi-Kokura Station. It seems to be a chain store, and they claim to have won the "Fried Chicken Gold Award". However, I'm not sure what criteria they used to judge this award. Anyway, the fried chicken here is just good, not outstanding. It's similar to other shops that claim to have won awards. The students in the area seem to enjoy stopping by after school, which gives it a nice local vibe.

The Adachi branch of this restaurant is great, but no matter how many times I visit, it just doesn't suit me (T ^ T). So, please share your reviews of delicious fried chicken that you have tried yourself ☆ *: .。. o (≧▽≦) o .。.: *☆ When I buy fried chicken at Karaage Oochan, I usually buy it when I go to the Adachi area, so I bought it here for the first time in about 2 years ♪ Lately, I have been looking for shops near Minami-Koganei Station, so I felt like eating it after a long time ♡ Unlike other takeout fried chicken shops, the price is fixed from the beginning, so you don't need to prepare 1 or 5 yen, which is convenient (o ^^ o) I usually buy breast meat and thigh meat with seaweed salt only ♡♡ I wanted to buy a Karaage Dog for the first time, but it seems to be sold out by early afternoon, so it's not available after 3 pm... Also, when I visited the other day, I ordered sweet and spicy fried chicken and thigh meat with seaweed salt, but I ended up getting almost plain fried chicken without feeling the seaweed salt, which I noticed after returning home ♡ I also noticed after returning home that they put freshly fried and cold fried chicken in the same bag (^O^☆♪ I didn't notice it at the time because I didn't look closely at the menu, but I never thought they would put freshly fried and cold items together, and since I lost the will to call and complain, I won't be visiting here again (o ^^ o) The Adachi branch doesn't have Karaage Dog, but it seems to have Karaage Bento, so I'll have to buy that next time o (^ ▽ ^) o (^ ▽ ^) o Goodbye, main branch ♡♡♡ I will buy from the Adachi branch in the future ♡♡♡♡♡

I went to a restaurant called "Kaohon" because I saw some reviews about it. I called in advance and found out it's right in front of Minami-Kokura Station, just a 1-minute walk from the JR station. If you're driving from the Minami-Ku area, you might get a little confused at a certain intersection. I ordered boneless chicken thigh (100g), sliced chicken (100g), and sand chicken liver. The smell of chicken in the car was tempting, so I couldn't resist and ate the sand chicken liver right away. I think it would be perfect if they provided toothpicks or hand wipes along with the paper cup for the sand chicken liver.

Ogura "Karaage Oo-chan" October 22, 2012 (Monday) NEW! Theme: Restaurant
Located just outside the south exit of Nishi-Kokura Station, there is a karaage (Japanese fried chicken) shop. I forgot to take a photo of the karaage, sorry (laughs). They have a variety of menu items like breast, thigh, gizzard, cartilage, and chicken wings, but my recommendation is the juicy cartilage and the gizzard with a good texture and no unpleasant smell. They seem to use good quality chicken and oil, so even if you eat a lot, it won't upset your stomach. There is space to eat inside the shop, but the karaage is also delicious when taken home and eaten cold. *It seems they make it so that it tastes good even when cold.

Located to the left in front of JR Minami Kokura Station, this is a specialty fried chicken shop with a big sign that reads "Karaage Oochan". I heard that they won the Gold Award in the Salt Sauce category at the 4th Karaage Grand Prix organized by the Japan Karaage Association, so I decided to visit. It's the kind of place where you can stop by for a quick bite on your way home from school or work. Inside, there were a few regular customers, a young boy and an older man, who occupied the counter. As soon as they realized I was a newcomer, they struck up a conversation with me, and the waiting time for the fried chicken became a fun chatting time. I couldn't resist sneaking a bite of the fried chicken I took out on my way back home because of its delicious aroma. It was really tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I have been curious about this shop for a while and finally got to visit it. The owner is Daisaku Tonohata, who is a famous gourmet reporter. The fried chicken is juicy, hot, and crispy, and incredibly delicious. I recommend trying the chicken thigh, breast, and gizzard. The owner's friendly personality is also a highlight of the experience. If you love fried chicken, I highly recommend visiting this shop.

On this day, I decided to visit "Karaage Oo-chan" on a whim.
◇Exterior and Interior
This fried chicken restaurant is located near JR Minami-Kokura Station in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. It seems to be run by a former sumo wrestler, as indicated by the signboard. You can also drink inside the restaurant.
◇Seating
I used takeout on this day, so I will skip this section.
◇Menu Composition
The main dish is fried chicken, and the names on the menu are based on sumo terminology, which is interesting. Chanko, a type of hot pot, is also available for takeout, and some items can even be delivered to your home. Here is what I ordered:
- Yotsu (100g for 280 yen) → Including tax. Yotsu is boneless thigh meat. There are two types available: with garlic and without garlic with seaweed salt. This time, I chose the latter. Honestly, I couldn't really taste the seaweed salt, but the flavor was clear for a garlic-free option. It felt a bit oily, but overall, it was a good dish to accompany drinks. I couldn't really see the connection to sumo wrestling, but maybe it's a "basic" item.
◆Strong Points
Not only fried chicken, but they also offer chanko!
◆Service
Average.
◆Summary
Since it was my first visit, I didn't purchase the chanko this time, but I think I'll try it next time. Maybe enjoy it while drinking inside the restaurant. Thank you for the meal! ^ ^

Unfortunately, the popular "Tonkara" is not available at the moment. I bought two types of chicken karaage for a little over 600 yen and took them home.

(2014/04/29: Visit) From April 26th to 29th, the "First Karaage Festival IN Aeon Mall Makuhari Shintoshin" event was held! I saw it on the news, so I decided to go on the last day! All the famous karaage shops from around the country gathered together at the event, making it a dream come true for karaage lovers. I bought a ticket for 4 pieces of karaage for 300 yen and joined the long line! The event was a great success, with long lines at every shop! The shop that boasted about their karaage made with seaweed salt without garlic and surprising gizzards was my target! I tried the "seaweed salt karaage"♪ In one cup, there were karaage made with thigh meat and breast meat, so I was able to enjoy each of their unique flavors! The karaage made with seaweed salt had a simple and classic taste♪
