After enjoying sushi with my wife at Shitenno-ji Temple, we wanted to have a few more drinks, so we decided to visit this bar. I had been following "Arcobaleno" on Tabelog, as someone I follow had been there a few times. The fact that this place is non-smoking is really great for us, as we are not fans of cigarette smoke. The location is also very convenient, just a short walk from Tennoji Station, so we wouldn't have to worry about missing the last train. When we walked up the stairs and entered the bar, the atmosphere was really nice. It felt like a true bar experience. It reminded me of my 20s when I used to try to act sophisticated at bars in Ginza, Tokyo. Even though I've aged quite a bit since then, the people sitting next to me don't seem to change much. It's nice to have some variety once in a while...I'll stop there before I get a punch from the person next to me. For my first drink, I ordered a Mojito, and my wife ordered a Sidecar. I was a bit surprised when the Mojito came out as a dark liquid. The reason for the dark color was the dark rum, if I remember correctly. It was really delicious. The Sidecar is a classic cocktail, but it had been so long since I had one that I couldn't remember the base spirit, so I had to look it up. It turned out to be brandy. Even though it's supposed to have a high alcohol content, it went down smoothly. I still wanted more to drink, so I decided to order another one. The Martini is the epitome of cocktails. As I watched the bartender stir, I thought to myself, "The spoon should always be turned inward." If I were to share this piece of trivia with the woman sitting next to me, would she be pleased or totally put off? The bartender served the vermouth and gin separately, a style I had never seen before. He suggested adding the olive-infused vermouth to the gin and adjusting it to my liking. It was a unique approach, and adding the vermouth definitely made it easier to drink. It was quite interesting, but since I had leftover vermouth, I'll order a regular Martini next time. We also ordered potato salad as a snack. It was moist and more like mashed potatoes than traditional potato salad. We enjoyed it on premium crackers. Due to the location in Tennoji, the clientele seemed to be on the younger side. However, everyone spoke in a lower tone and conducted themselves like adults. (Although we in our 50s might have been the loudest...) We would love to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
