I have been interested in this traditional Japanese sweets shop for a while. The ohagi and daifuku were very delicious. They also sell other sweets like anmitsu, kuzukiri, inari sushi, and rakugan, which I didn't buy this time but caught my attention.

Located between Shinjuku and Okubo, this shop is on the first floor of a nice building near Seibu Shinjuku. The prices are reasonable, and it has a cozy atmosphere like a local Japanese sweets shop. The daifuku and kashiwa mochi are simple and have a homemade feel to them. Perfect for enjoying at home.

Between Shinjuku Station and Okubo Station, there is a Japanese confectionery shop called Shinjuku Nakamuraya, which is not related to the famous Nakamuraya. The shop offers a limited variety of seasonal Japanese sweets such as rice cakes, ohagi, daifuku, and Mizuyokan, as well as inarizushi. Purchased items (including tax): - Daifuku (140 yen) ☆×3.6 Thick and chewy mochi with a unique texture and flavor, with a good amount of saltiness. The red bean filling is moist and not too sweet, complementing the mochi well. - Ohagi with mashed red bean paste (140 yen) ☆×3.4 The sticky rice is soft and slightly underwhelming in flavor. The mashed red bean paste has a nice texture and sweetness, creating a gentle taste overall. - Ohagi with strained red bean paste (140 yen) ☆×3.2 The smooth strained red bean paste lacks depth in flavor and sweetness. The sticky rice is similar to the mashed version, resulting in an overall light impression. Overall, while this shop may not have any outstanding or unique qualities, it provides a sense of comfort and reliability that is satisfying for those looking for traditional Japanese sweets.

On my way from Shinjuku to Okubo, I found a shop and bought ohagi, kashiwamochi, and daifuku because I wanted something sweet. They had a simple and homemade feel. The wrapping looked like it was done by hand. As a bonus, they gave me a candy. It was delicious in a normal way. Thank you for the meal!

I visited a place between Okubo and Nishi-Shinjuku and tried their "inari". It was small but had a strong flavor, and the rice was cooked perfectly. It's a soul food that you can enjoy quickly when you're feeling a bit hungry on the street corner.

When participating in the Tokyo Machi Sanpo tour by Tokyo Metro, I was drawn to the chestnut steamed yokan along the course and decided to stop by. The chestnut steamed yokan was priced at 370 yen and vacuum packed, with the manufacturing location listed as another prefecture, so it didn't seem to be homemade at this shop. The taste was that of vacuum-packed chestnut steamed yokan, but considering the affordable price, I was satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

The flavor of the mochi is excellent. They are carefully handmade, and the salted soybeans on top add a nice touch. The sweetness of the red bean paste is subtle but delicious, and personally, I am very satisfied. The prices are also very reasonable, which is great. I also tried the inari sushi and chirashi sushi. The inari sushi has a gentle, refreshing taste and is quite large for only 70 yen. The chirashi sushi has a clear balance of sweetness and acidity, with a satisfying bite. I will definitely go back when I'm in the area. This is a secret gem that I want to keep to myself.

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop with about 70 years of history. They sell onigiri in the early morning. Today, I bought mitarashi dango and ohagi with sweet red bean paste for my afternoon snack at 3 o'clock, and enjoyed them in the car. They were delicious.

Every time I go towards Seibu Shinjuku Station or Okubo Station, I pass by this place and it caught my attention, so I decided to buy something. I bought the steamed chestnut yokan for 270 yen and an inari sushi for 70 yen. The packaging of the chestnut yokan looked like a pre-made product, so I checked the back and found out that it was made by a company in Utsunomiya. (I brought it to my parents' house and coincidentally, some relatives who were visiting happened to be from Tochigi Prefecture, so they laughed at me.) The inari sushi didn't have anything inside, just a regular inari sushi. It's slightly larger compared to the mainstream size nowadays, so it has a good bite to it. The taste is not too sweet or too sour. Overall, everything is just average with no standout features. They also sell daifuku and dango, but based on the chestnut yokan and inari sushi I tried, it doesn't seem to be exceptionally delicious. I had high expectations since they seemed to have been in business for a long time, but I was slightly disappointed.

■ Date Level 2 (in this case, souvenir level) ■ Location: Located next to a fish shop on the corner of Shokuan Street, just off Kotaki Bridge Street from Shinjuku Station. ■ Exterior/Interior: The shop has a heavy, black marble-like appearance. It's a unique shop with no door, just a showcase where you can purchase items outside. ■ Taste: The red bean paste in the daifuku is unexpectedly not too sweet, with a lot of saltiness, giving it a salt daifuku-like taste. The mochi is thick but has a chewy texture and is delicious. The simple wrapping in regular plastic wrap adds a comforting touch. ■ Conclusion: A refined traditional Japanese sweets shop is great, but why not try a warm daifuku with a homemade feel like grandma's? It's highly recommended.

The mochi was firm. The mitarashi sauce was okay.

The delicious bean daifuku is definitely worth a try! The volume of the mochi is satisfying. However, if you prefer sweeter treats, you might find it lacking. Mochi lovers will absolutely enjoy it. I visited around the same time as last time, but today, due to the good weather, there was only 1 serving left of chirashi sushi, inari sushi, and mitarashi dango each. Whenever I'm in the Okubo area, I always make sure to stop by.
