I visited to eat fresh squid sashimi and squid somen noodles. The squid is freshly prepared from the tank in the restaurant. The live squid was priced at 1700 yen. The squid was so fresh that it was still moving on the plate. It had a great texture and sweetness, and was very delicious.

I watched various people's sightseeing in Hakodate on YouTube and felt that this restaurant was popular, so I decided to visit. They seem to have live squid when available. I stayed in Hakodate for 2 nights and 3 days, but even when I visited first thing in the morning, I was unlucky and couldn't eat live squid. This is because squid is not being caught due to fishing at any restaurant (even if available, it is expensive). Since there was no live squid, I ordered a sea urchin and squid bowl called "Uniika Don" that uses morning squid. The definition of morning squid is not as fresh as live squid, but it is freshly fried in the morning. It seems that the sweetness increases and the crunchy texture disappears as time passes. I visited around noon, but even at this time, it was still crunchy and delicious enough. As a result, I was satisfied. The sea urchin was also truly Hokkaido-like, with a creamy and authentic taste without any fishy smell! Everything was delicious, and the staff's customer service was pleasant. I thought the people in Hakodate are kind. Thank you for the meal.

Today, we couldn't have the "live squid bowl" my wife wanted because squid fishing was poor, so we went to a popular restaurant. I ordered the "special set meal" (grilled belly), my wife got the "uni, crab, and ikura bowl" (regular), and my son had the "five-color bowl" (half size) for breakfast. We shared and ate together, and the rice was just right - slightly firm with tasty seasoned ikura. The grilled belly was fatty and delicious. The uni was fresh and sweet with no fishy smell, and the crab released a burst of juice when bitten into. All three of us were very satisfied.

Hakodate, a popular spot in Donburi Yokocho with long lines. It was lunchtime on a holiday, but we only had to wait about 15-20 minutes to get in. We had the Hakodate Donburi (with sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, and crab) and the squid somen. It was my first time trying squid somen, and it was delicious with its thinly sliced and delicate texture, different from squid sashimi. Thank you for the meal!

When I went to Hakodate, I was told that I must try squid sashimi! So I visited the Hakodate Morning Market first thing in the morning. I was looking forward to trying dried squid, which was supposed to be available from June 1st, but it seems that it was not available at this time. Too bad. So I ordered sashimi of spear squid instead. Wow, it was incredibly delicious!!!! Without a doubt, the best squid I have ever eaten in my life!!! I wish I could have tried dried squid too!!! If you come to Hakodate, you definitely shouldn't miss out on trying squid sashimi!!

¥2000 Morning Market Goshiki Donburi (Scallop) There is a Donburi Yokocho Market located just across the parking lot from Hakodate Station West Exit. About 20 shops offering various donburi dishes, with a focus on seafood, line up here. While the prices may be a bit touristy, it's still worth a visit. There were plenty of overseas visitors, including tour groups. Around 11:30 on a weekday, the two popular shops with lines were Bakoto and Yasube, and Ebisu Shokudo. All donburi dishes come with miso soup and pickles. The smaller-sized donburi dishes come with salad. ○Morning Market Goshiki Donburi (Scallop) This dish includes scallops and crab, but since I'm not a big fan of boiled crab, I went with my favorite, scallops! When you place your order, they provide pickles, shrimp shell holder, and a soy sauce dish. They explain each item individually, even showing you how to use the soy sauce dish by putting your finger in the middle. A bit unhygienic... The dish was served in less than 5 minutes. Super quick. The dish includes 3 sweet shrimp, 3 slices of salmon, sea urchin, soy sauce-marinated salmon roe, and 2 thinly sliced scallops. Under the ingredients, there are shiso leaves, shredded omelette, seaweed, and slightly soft rice. There is a lemon under the sea urchin, which I didn't really like the combination of seafood and lemon. The scallops and sea urchin had a rich flavor. The thinness of the scallops was surprising. It felt like one shellfish was enough for two bowls of donburi. The salmon was quite light. The salmon roe and sweet shrimp had familiar flavors. The staff didn't speak loudly, maybe because there were many foreign customers. The overall experience was not very pleasant. The ingredients were at room temperature, and the taste was nothing extraordinary that would make you want to come back. Thank you for the meal. April, Thursday, 11:45-12:05.

On the second day of my trip, I woke up safely. I came to my favorite city, Hakodate, after a long time. I arrived in the morning market area around 6:30 am, but the sushi restaurant I wanted to go to had a temporary closure notice. After thinking for a while, I decided to visit this place for the first time in about 12 years. The special set meal I ordered had a choice of main dish, and I chose salmon harasu instead of hokke. It came with squid sashimi and salmon oyakodon for 1650 yen. It was surprisingly good value, and when it was served, I felt like having a beer so I ordered one. The harasu was cooked thoroughly and went well with the squid sashimi, making the beer taste even better in the morning. The rice in the salmon oyakodon was warm, and it had plenty of salmon roe which made me happy. There were many popular restaurants open early around the area, but as a traveler, I am glad I came to this place. Above all, the lady who seemed to be the owner treated me kindly from the morning, and I felt comforted. Thank you for the meal. Visited: 3.48/187 reviews.

It's been 9 years, and it was delicious! (^_^)! I love squid sashimi the most among all sashimi, so for me, this set meal is the ultimate. You can choose between grilled fish like mackerel or yellowtail, but I chose mackerel seeking flavor over fat. The seafood bowl is a parent-child bowl of salmon and salmon roe! The squid sashimi is served with ginger soy sauce. The salmon with wasabi soy sauce. The mackerel with grated daikon radish. The perfect matching of ingredients made both the food and me very happy! \\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// Such a dream combination for only 1650 yen, truly amazing, Donburi Yokocho!

This was my first visit to Donburi Yokochō. I had the 5-color bowl with scallops for 1870 yen. The salmon roe was soy sauce-marinated. The sea urchin was placed on top of a lemon, which might be good for those who don't like it, but all I could taste was the acidity. The service was friendly, and I think it's not a bad restaurant among the ones in Donburi Yokochō.

Hakodate specialty live squid sashimi! "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" Hakodate Asaichi Donburi Yokocho. For more details, please visit the blog: https://tokyo-tabearuki.com/makotoyasube-hakodate This time's content 1. Hakodate Asaichi 2. Exterior, menu, and queue at "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" 3. Live beer and live squid sashimi at "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" 4. Business hours and Tabelog rating for "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" 1. Hakodate Asaichi Hakodate Asaichi is located near Hakodate Station. Last year during my visit to Hakodate, I had a bowl of sea urchin at the famous restaurant "Unimurakami" for 6,050 yen. It was delicious, but with only 70g, it was gone in an instant. I wanted to eat about 200g, but at that price, it's not feasible. This time, during my Hakodate trip, I stayed at La'gent Stay Hakodate Ekimae, and the breakfast there was as luxurious as the one at Hotel La Vista Hakodate Bay last year. There was even a seafood bowl for breakfast. I enjoyed all the breakfast options until I was full. It's great to have a delicious breakfast, but I usually skip breakfast. When I have a breakfast buffet, I feel like I don't need lunch. On this day, I was planning to skip lunch as I was going to the New Chitose Airport from Hakodate by train. But while exploring Hakodate Asaichi after lunch, I found a shop that caught my eye. It seemed like they served live squid sashimi. Before my trip to Hakodate last year, I read that "You must eat live squid when you come to Hakodate," and saw many articles praising the deliciousness of Hakodate squid everywhere. This seemed perfect. So, after walking around Hachiman-zaka, I returned to Hakodate Station and went back to Mako to Yasube Shokudo. 2. Exterior, menu, and queue at "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" With its distinctive name, this restaurant has caught my attention for a while. It's a well-known shop that often appears in the media. Mako to Yasube was established in 1985 and has a history of over 45 years. The shop is located in the "Donburi Yokocho Market," which is part of the Hakodate Asaichi close to the station. This shop is always crowded whenever I pass by. At a glance, it seems like this shop always has a line. Their main dish is seafood bowl. If I were hungry, I would have ordered that. For school trips, there is a 100 yen discount on the bowl. Mini bowls and various set meals are 50 yen off. It was 12:10, and the line looked like this. I waited for about 10 minutes while admiring the splendid live squid in the tank. The interior of the shop has a typical market dining feel. I took photos of the menu, but I quickly ordered a live squid sashimi and a beer. 3. Live beer and live squid sashimi at "Mako to Yasube Shokudo" This time, I bid farewell to Sapporo Classic, which I drank countless times during this trip. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the live squid sashimi arrived. Wow, it's transparent. It turns white if left unattended, I see. The tentacles can be served as sashimi or grilled with salt. I chose sashimi. The brown part in the middle is the liver. I thought it might be strong, but it was not bitter and had a smooth texture. The sashimi was refreshing and crunchy, without any stickiness or sweetness. It's completely different from regular squid. Then, the sashimi made from the tentacles arrived.

One of the joys of traveling is experiencing the unique atmosphere of the local area. When I visited Hakodate Market, it was clearly geared towards tourists. Nevertheless, I decided to have a light breakfast at "Umako to Yasube" in the market. I ordered the three-color rice bowl with sea urchin, scallops, and salmon roe. Considering the price, I didn't have high expectations for the sea urchin, but the scallops and salmon roe were delicious. It seems like the quality of the sea urchin correlates with the price. Thank you for the meal.

Hakodate Morning Market - It's really difficult to choose from the many shops (*´-`). I want to try everything, but unfortunately I get full quickly these days. When I travel, I crave for a cow's stomach. Among the many tourist shops, I look for good cost performance. The set meal and my son's long-awaited scallop and crab rice bowl set meal were good. The squid was especially delicious. When you come to Hakodate, it's all about the squid. Thank you for the meal.

Hakodate Lunch Morning Market Goshiki Don with Crab for 1,980 yen. It was almost full before noon on Saturday. Despite the resurgence of COVID-19, flights from Tokyo were also almost full, and the number of tourists has increased significantly. The seafood bowl, my favorite, has become even more expensive recently with sea urchin and salmon roe included, but considering all the premium ingredients, this price is reasonable for a tourist spot.

On April 29, 2022 (Fri), my business trip to Minami-do has come to an end, so before heading back, I decided to have breakfast at Donburi Yokocho. Lately, due to poor catches or price hikes, it hasn't been easy to find good options, but this time I found a decently priced place. I ordered a bowl with fresh spear squid and shrimp and crab. I was curious to try the transparent and crunchy spear squid tentacles, and when I mentioned that, they suggested trying it as sashimi. It was my first time having raw squid tentacles. In the past, I had only had them deep-fried or in tempura, so it was a refreshing experience. The texture was different from the ears and body of the squid, with a popping sensation in the eyes and a chewy texture in the internal parts. I was happy to try the raw squid tentacles, but I think I prefer them cooked. The shrimp and crab bowl was also delicious. The service was great, and I definitely want to visit again. Thank you for the seasonal spear squid meal!

Hakodate Asaichi Donburi Yokocho's "Umako to Yasube Shokudo" is a popular restaurant where TV and celebrities have been visiting since ancient times! ✨ There is a fish tank at the entrance with live squid swimming inside. Even though there is a second floor, the restaurant is almost full! They have a special set meal on the menu, priced at only 1,650 yen, but the contents are amazing ✨ Seafood bowl with squid sashimi, grilled fish (either hokke or harasu), pickles, and miso soup. I wandered around the market in the morning to eat seafood bowl. After carefully choosing a restaurant to avoid disappointment, I confirmed that I could enjoy a large live squid swimming in a tank for 1,800 yen. The seafood bowl was exactly as shown in the picture, and it was a good, honest restaurant. The squid had a great texture as it started to become translucent, and it was incredibly delicious. I enjoyed dishes that made me think "Hakodate is the best!" I confidently recommend this restaurant as a good and honest place.

I went to lunch. I visited this restaurant in Donburi Yokocho after checking Tabelog. There are many seafood bowl restaurants around here, and honestly, I thought they would all be the same... I wish there were places with more than just seafood bowls for snacks. But, I was able to compare a few places after visiting them, so that was good. Here, I ordered mini sizes of shrimp, salmon roe, and sea urchin. The mini size comes with salad, seaweed miso soup, and pickles. I requested "less rice, please" and they accommodated my request (but it was still a lot). This lineup cost ¥1,540. Hmm, there was a lot of salmon roe. There were 3 large shrimp, but not enough sea urchin... I wanted to eat sea urchin. If you want a half portion of salmon roe and sea urchin, it would cost around ¥2,570 for a regular size, they said. I can't eat that much, so I reluctantly chose this one, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of sea urchin. So, the point is, I should have just gone with sea urchin only (I'm selfish). However, the service was very polite and excellent.

When traveling, it's easy to get caught up in trying out the local "specialties." In Hakodate, the must-try dish is definitely the seafood bowl at the morning market, with plenty of restaurants to choose from. I found myself getting excited and ended up trying one. There were many similar restaurants around, offering similar dishes at similar prices. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I chose this one on a whim. It was crowded, but the service was quick and the three-color bowl was decent, as expected. However, after finishing my meal, I couldn't help but think that for the price I paid, I could have had more fun at a revolving sushi restaurant or buying crab at the market and having it cooked for me. It's not that this restaurant was bad, but I started to reflect on the tendency of tourists to get carried away by the excitement of trying local specialties. This was my lunchtime realization.

I went fishing for squid at the nearby market and then bought some souvenirs. I asked if there was a good place to have breakfast, and was referred to this restaurant. The interior was clean and well-maintained, which left a good impression. We were seated at a table on the first floor and each ordered different rice bowl dishes (although there were also various set meals available). I ordered a mini salmon, sea urchin, and salmon roe rice bowl. The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes, and the mini bowl came with a small salad, miso soup, and pickles. The salmon was rich and delicious, the sea urchin had a nice sweetness, and the salmon roe was well-seasoned and paired nicely with the rice. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and it was a pleasant dining experience.
