In the middle of Nishiki Market, there is an old-fashioned egg shop. I was feeling a bit thirsty and decided to buy it. What is this! It's so delicious! I've only had milkshakes once in Nagasaki, but this was truly amazing. I'm not sure of the real definition of a milkshake, but it was incredibly delicious. I highly recommend it to those who like creamy drinks! I could feel the seriousness of the egg shop. I want to drink it again!

Located at 506 Nishiki Market, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. It's a popular spot for tourists, especially during holidays. One of the reasons people come to Kyoto. After reading a senior reviewer's recommendation, I decided to visit this restaurant that I had been wanting to try. I walked from the opposite direction of the reviewer's route and ended up walking quite a bit (laughs). It was a bit far from Nishiki Shrine? Enter Teramachi Street from Shijo Station, turn right, walk a bit, then turn left to reach the restaurant, but it's quite a distance, so if you follow my way, you might get lost (laughs). After asking around, I finally found the restaurant on the right side. I bought four sesame souvenirs, and when I picked them up, the vibrant colors were beautiful and the flavors were lovely. It had a strong egg taste, almost like a nori-tamago with various other ingredients mixed in. When I asked about the tamago gohan, they confirmed they had it. The restaurant had a small dining area next to the counter. I ordered the tamago gohan and saw a menu of dried fish in front of me. Since I was a bit hungry, I added a can of Premium Malt's beer to go with the mackerel dried fish. The mackerel and beer arrived first, and I enjoyed the rich flavor of the mackerel and the beer. The tamago gohan was served shortly after, and it had a creamy texture when I broke the yolk. I mixed it quickly and savored the taste. Some people might wonder why a simple dish like tamago gohan is so delicious at certain restaurants. Although taking photos inside the restaurant was allowed, it didn't feel right, so I refrained from doing so. Thank you for the meal. I'd like to explore Nishiki Market a bit more leisurely and try more food next time. I'll definitely come back.

Located at 506 Nakauoyacho, Nishikikoji-dori, Kiyamachi-dori, Nijo-dori, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, Tanabeya is a long-established store specializing in bonito flakes and dried goods, founded in 1830 (Tenpo 1). It is a must-visit spot in Kyoto's Nishiki Market, known as the kitchen of Kyoto. The store is just 10 meters from the west entrance of Nishiki Market. They are open from 9:00 to 18:00 and closed on Sundays. On Saturdays, they offer an eat-in option from around 10:30 to 17:00 (until sold out). I met my friends at the west entrance of Nishiki Market, where we saw tourists in yukata being led by a guide. We stood near the former residence of Ito Jakuchu, a famous painter from the late Edo period. After meeting up, we explored the 390-meter-long Nishiki Market shopping street, known for its colorful arcade. We enjoyed browsing through various Kyoto vegetables, pickles, tofu, sushi, and more. I was particularly interested in purchasing "Goshiki Goma" (Five-color Sesame) from Tanabeya. This sesame blend includes carrot, pumpkin, spinach, tomato, plum powder, matcha, and seaweed powder. It is free of artificial additives and has a beautiful color combination. If you are looking for a souvenir, the Goshiki Goma from Tanabeya is a great choice. Alternatively, there is a similar product called "Nishiki Goma" available at Shimamoto Nori in Nishiki Market. Overall, our visit to Nishiki Market was delightful, and I would recommend stopping by for a light lunch while exploring the market. Next, we headed to Kyoto Station.

This time, I visited the dried goods store "Tanabeya Shoten" in Nishiki Market. It is a long-established store founded in 1830. They offer a wide range of seasonings, from those used in famous restaurants to those for home cooking. I purchased their "Tanabeya Special Five-color Sesame" and "Yoshino Kudzu, designated by the Imperial Household Agency." The five-color sesame is flavored and colored with seaweed, carrots, and pumpkin, making it versatile for sprinkling or cooking. The kudzu powder is a high-quality ingredient used in renowned restaurants, giving dishes a special touch. I will be making a kaiseki meal for my father's upcoming birthday, so I bought these items. They also have kelp, bonito flakes, and dashi stock for making delicious rolled omelets, which are easy to use at home. Located where Takakura Street and Nishiki Street intersect, the store is not too crowded, making it a great spot for cooking enthusiasts to visit.

The other day, I went to Nishiki Market for some food tasting (lol). Oh man, it's a great place for foodies. There are so many different foods creatively prepared for tasting, and the prices are also very reasonable (lol). I couldn't help but want to try everything~ If you just walk normally, it probably wouldn't take that long, but while checking out the goods (lol), you forget about time (^_^). I came across this milkshake sign while feeling a bit tired from eating, and immediately ordered it (lol). They made it right in front of me, and it's from the Tamago-ya shop, so my expectations were high. And it didn't disappoint~ The sweetness was just right, and it was very easy to drink~ I felt energized again (lol). It may seem a bit pricey at 350 yen, but if you think of it as drinking at a cafe, it's a reasonable price. Thanks for the meal *\(^o^)/* I hope this can be helpful for your restaurant choices. Thank you for reading (^.^)

At Tanbeya in Nishiki Market, a store established in the early years of Tenpo era (1830) specializing in bonito flakes, dried goods, and eggs, I decided to visit after seeing a reviewer dining in. There is an eat-in space next to the sales area, with only a counter. The menu offers straightforward dishes unique to this shop. I was tempted by the dashi tea rice porridge and freshly shaved bonito flakes over rice, but this time I opted for the Tamago Kake Gohan (rice with raw egg) (\350) with a special dashi soup (\150) on the side. I added bonito flakes (\50) as a topping. The dish was served on an eco-friendly paper plate made from sugarcane. The generous portion of egg was poured over the rice, followed by the special dashi soup. The umami of bonito broth spread throughout my mouth. Next, I mixed the egg into the rice, creating a flavorful collaboration. Adding the bonito flakes on top was also a nice touch. I ended the meal with a milkshake (\350), which was made with care, adding in fresh eggs one by one. It had just the right amount of richness and sweetness. Takeout is available. The simplicity of the dishes allows the quality of the ingredients to shine. The eat-in option is only available on Saturdays. If I have the chance, I would love to visit again.

I found a bakery near the hotel to get breakfast, but for some reason, I couldn't find it anywhere. I had to give up and check out, but on my way to the meeting place, I stumbled upon a new eat-in space at the dry goods store Tanabe-ya on Nishiki Koji. The menu looked simple but carefully prepared using Tanabe-ya's products. Since I had time to spare until my next appointment and there didn't seem to be much of a wait, I decided to give it a try. - Tamago Kake Gohan (raw egg over rice) 350 yen - Dashi soup 200 yen The store had only counter seating. I ordered and the food was served very quickly. Both the Tamago Kake Gohan and Dashi soup were simple dishes, so the quality of the ingredients really made a difference in the taste. It seemed like they used carefully selected eggs and rice. The rice grains were shiny and stood firm, combining well with the rich egg. The hot Dashi soup had a strong bonito flavor and was steaming hot, with a satisfying bounce when poured into the bowl. It reminded me of a specialty shop like Nishinben, but this eat-in space for their own products might become a staple for Kyoto breakfast.

I wanted to eat something light at Nishiki Market, so I stopped by this shop. They offer dashi soup, dashi tea pickles, and tamago kake gohan at an eat-in area run by a dry goods store. The dashi menu items are served hot and taste delicious. The dishes they use are made of a special material similar to Japanese paper, which adds a stylish touch. The taste is undeniably great! The sashimi on the ochazuke, along with the sesame dressing, was well-balanced and I finished it in no time. They also provide a service where you can add ginger to the dashi soup, so you can enjoy it even more by starting with the normal soup and then adding ginger. The customers were mostly individuals and couples. It's a perfect place to experience the Nishiki atmosphere at a reasonable price!

When I was wandering around Nishiki Market, I was intrigued and stopped by to try the sea bream tea rice. It's a small counter in the corner of the market, so there was quite a wait. The sea bream tea rice was quite delicious. I wish it was a bit cheaper, but it's a tourist spot after all.

The hotel's check-out time was 11 am, so I took it easy in the morning. But I started to get hungry. When I searched for breakfast on the internet, many options with large portions came up. Among them, I found a simple place run by an old rice shop, and after some hesitation, I decided to go there. Since I was in Kyoto, I wanted to taste the dashi broth. It's located at the west end of Nishiki Market, on the left side as you enter. They only have a 7-seat counter. The dashi broth soup with egg over rice topped with bonito flakes costs 700 yen and you pay in advance. First, the soup is served, and the soothing taste of the almost salt-free dashi broth is delightful. The egg over rice comes with soy sauce already added, and you can add black sesame and extra soy sauce to your liking. It's rich but not overwhelming. They also offer sea bream tea rice, but I didn't try it this time. Everyone next to me was having the sea bream tea rice, and watching them prepare it made me want to try it, but I didn't. It was a very satisfying meal.
