At Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro branch, there is a deli called "Uomisen" on the 2nd basement floor. It seems to be a specialty store in the department store basement, also found in Ueno, Osaka Umeda, and Kobe. They offer fish simmered dishes as well as skewers. On Saturdays, all skewers are only 130 yen each including tax. I happened to visit on a day with this great deal and purchased the following 10 skewers: pork loin x2, shrimp x2, kisu fish with shiso leaf x2, scallop, onion, potato, lotus root. When lightly grilled, the skewers had a crispy thin crust, just like "kushikatsu". The accompanying sauce was a watery Worcestershire sauce which complemented the skewers well. I particularly enjoyed the pork loin and scallop. The skewers with vegetables like onion, potato, and lotus root had a generous portion which was great.

"Fishing Sensui" is one of the fish and side dish specialty stores operated by Osaka's Tomosou. This store has been in business at Tobu Ikebukuro for a long time. It seems that it started with "Tomosou Shunraku Tobu Ikebukuro Store" and "Tomosou Uosan Tobu Ikebukuro Store," but it was eventually consolidated into "Fishing Sensui." I had the "Grilled Mackerel Bento" (732 yen) with "Grilled Whole Squid" (432 yen) as shown in the photo. The grilled mackerel seemed freshly made, with a good flaky texture. The seasoning was light, allowing the flavor of the fish to shine through. In addition to the main mackerel, there were various side dishes included in the bento. I also received two other dishes underneath the mackerel. This was quite a satisfying and good value meal. The grilled whole squid was also delicious, with a nicely balanced sweet and savory sauce. A tenant that focuses on seafood dishes, with trout salmon cut-offs on sale, grilled fish. It was around 302 yen per pack. The texture was a bit dry on the outside but moist inside. It had a good amount of saltiness, perfect with rice. It was simply delicious. However, the staff's service was not so great.

I found this shop in the food section on the 2nd floor of Tobu Ikebukuro during the New Year. Let's buy something as a snack for alcohol at home. There were many delicious fish lined up beautifully. I decided to buy "grilled yellowtail". It was almost 5:30 pm, but it was 20% off. It was 500 yen → 400 yen, plus tax. The grilled yellowtail, which I hadn't had in a long time, had a delicious sauce. I wanted to try other fish too. I hope this year will be a good year.

I found some fish dishes at the department store basement. They looked delicious, so I decided to buy them. It was half a mackerel with plenty of finely sliced vegetables like onions on top. The white sauce also had a strong flavor. The marinade was tangy and tasty as I expected.

On Friday night, I decided to have a home party with friends and watch the drama "Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Special Investigation Unit" since my TV is broken. I finished work early, so I went shopping first. I found a discounted simmered fish dish - flounder simmered in soy sauce for 453 yen instead of 600 yen. The fatty part of the fish was delicious, and the meat was tender and easy to eat, even the thin bones. The sauce was also tasty, and I even ate the skin. It's no wonder this dish is so popular! In the past, I would always choose meat over fish, but lately I've been craving dishes like this. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Fish Selection @ Tobu Ikebukuro in Ikebukuro is a specialty fish store. I felt like eating fish, so I came to buy some. There were various types of fish displayed in different cooking styles, making it fun to choose! They also had bento boxes available. Among them, I chose two types. The "Komidarei" simmered fish with roe was amazing with plenty of eggs! You can choose between the tail or belly, and I chose the tail which I had never tried before. The meat was refreshing, and the eggs were packed full and delicious! The "Saba Saikyo Yaki" grilled mackerel had a crispy skin with no fishy smell. The meat was tender and didn't taste like mackerel at all!

When searching for the next destination on the 2nd basement floor of the main building, I came across a new shop at number 4. Oh, they changed the name of the shop that used to have a Saturday tempura sale? It's divided into a fish section and a tempura section, and it seems like there's a crowd only at the tempura section because of the special sale day. The empty fish section allows for a leisurely shopping experience. I noticed unfamiliar fish names, so I decided to try the "Gin Hirasu Teriyaki" (520 yen excluding tax) and "Menoke Shioyaki" (450 yen). Upon researching later, I found out that Gin Hirasu is a high-quality fish from the southern hemisphere belonging to the Suzuki family, also known as Silver, with few bones and suitable for dishes like Nishikyo-zuke and simmered dishes. Menoke is a type of deep-sea fish, a red and large member of the scorpionfish family, known for its eyes popping out when caught. Fish is truly fascinating once you delve into it! As for the taste, it was a bit chewy, perhaps due to the cooking method or freshness. Although healthy, the tempura might have been a better choice, and I could have gone for the popular Karei simmered dish... In total, spending almost 3,000 yen at three different shops, which could have been enough for a small bar, but exploring various ingredients and cutting-edge prepared foods at the gourmet market offers a different kind of enjoyment. The journey through the largest floor in the Tokyo Depachika continues.

[Visit on 2017.06.18] This shop is located in the Tobu department store basement in Ikebukuro. I visited around 6 pm on a Sunday. The department store basement was not too crowded as it was past the peak hours. I was browsing through the basement and decided to try this shop that seemed to have snacks that would go well with alcohol. They had about 10 types of skewers, with choices like pork for 130 yen and quail for 108 yen. I tried them that night and they were perfect as a side dish for drinks. The affordability of the prices was also appreciated. Thank you for the meal.

When I went at night, there was a slight discount, so I decided to try the simmered alfonsino, which I don't usually eat at home. Honestly, the flesh was a bit tough and I couldn't really taste the deliciousness of the alfonsino itself, so it was a bit disappointing. I wondered if I didn't heat it up properly. The taste of the simmering broth was good though. Thank you for the meal.
