Located along a shopping street extending from Minoshima Ichome to Sumiyoshi intersection, this yakiniku restaurant features raised seating areas with built-in table grills. Established in 1968, this long-standing establishment may not be fancy in decor, but it offers consistently good quality meat.
Transitioning from Sumiyoshi towards Canal City, I stumbled upon a yakiniku restaurant with a nostalgic Showa era charm, as indicated by its sparkling signboard. With Spy No. 1 giving me a knowing smile that says "I'll follow you anywhere," it seems that my recent trend of exploring the dining scene in Ropponmatsu on Fridays has caught the attention of a certain chairman who is currently on a spicy three-part journey.
The entrance leads to a corridor with raised seating tables lining the walls, reminiscent of the yakiniku restaurants I used to visit as a child. Feeling quite full, I decide to order sparingly. I opt for premium cuts of beef, both sirloin and tongue, seasoned with salt. A salad is served as a starter, accompanied by onion dressing, a nice touch that adds to the dining experience.
Spy No. 1 orders oxtail soup, while I add a side of namul to my meal. The homemade namul has a subtle sesame oil flavor, which I find pleasing. Soon enough, a plate with two types of meat arrives. Although it may be hard to distinguish at first glance, the longer slices are tongue.
The premium tongue, priced at around 1,200 yen, boasts a good balance of meat and fat, making it a delightful choice even when lightly seared. The sirloin, priced at 1,500 yen, is about 5mm thick with a distinct shape. When seared slightly on the surface, the fat sizzles and adds to the overall juiciness of the meat.
Although I was curious about the noodle menu, I found myself too full to indulge. As for my overall assessment, it remains tentative. If I had visited as the first stop of the day, the nostalgic retro ambiance might have bumped up the rating a bit. I learned that the restaurant was established in 1968, making it a longstanding family-friendly yakiniku spot. The friendly service from the mild-mannered owner added to the pleasant dining experience.
Phew, it seems that one yakiniku restaurant a day is the ideal limit for now.
