JR / Closest to the east exit of Shinjuku Station on private railway lines. From the station, head towards Kabukicho and go underground from Moa Chuo Street... or directly connect from the Subnade underground shopping area to Sanpei Store. I'm not familiar with Sanpei Store. I visited for the first time today. A supermarket on the second basement floor. They handle various items such as daily sales, fresh meat, and fresh fish at the supermarket. As for pricing, it's not as cheap as major discount supermarkets, but it's reasonably priced. Mini sushi, Gomokuage, Hamaothime mixed grain sprinkles, Amanoya Puchi Kabukiage, Super Garlic Fried, Kawagoe-ya organic peanuts ● Mini sushi ● 180 yen → -30 yen = 150 yen. It's the mini size of Sukeroku. The store was closing soon, so the selection was limited. They were clearance items. Two pieces of cut futomaki and one inari sushi. Hmm... I don't know what to say. The futomaki and inari sushi were both on the sweet side. They lacked any particular flavor and were just decently made for the price. These small packs are perfect for breakfast. Huh? Receipt... Did they forget to ring up the Satsuma-age at the register? Or is it just my imagination? (^-^;

It is a supermarket located near Shinjuku Station East Exit, heading towards the Sunroad direction. There is no eat-in space, just a regular supermarket. It's somewhat of a Shinjuku urban legend to have a normal supermarket in such a prime location, especially not a high-end one, with many foreigners from the neighborhood also using it. The notable thing is that they have a slightly different selection, with quite a few minor foreign products and a good variety of hormone-based meats. If you ever buy something, the extremely spicy retort curry is a must-have... (laughs) It reaches a level of spiciness that will make you scrunch up your face, even for a retort curry.

I came to look for other things, but decided to stop by the fresh fish section. Oh, there are some seafood items that seem reasonably priced today. Even though it's Sunday and the freshness may be a day behind. I wonder if they're cheaper because it's Sunday? I purchased some Okayama oysters and belt fish. I cleaned the oysters by sprinkling salt and washing them well. Then I cooked them in olive oil like an aioli and finished them off with butter. Cooking at a low temperature seems to keep them from getting too tough even if they're cooked for a long time. I cooked the belt fish in a frying pan. I lightly coated it with oil and seasoned both sides with salt. It's delicious when the skin turns a fox-like color, right?

After the seminar, I stopped by Shinjuku for dinner shopping. "Sanpei Store Shinjuku" is a convenient store that is friendly to the common people. It is perfect for a quick stop. They have a variety of vegetables, fruits, and side dishes available. When you get tired, you naturally crave something sweet. I bought and ate a convenient stick-type ice cream that I could eat with one hand. I took a short break in front of the store, relaxed my shoulders, and then headed home. It was another peaceful and safe day.

It rained a little in the morning, but it's hot as usual during the day. Today, I bought lunch at Sanpei Store Shinjuku, a supermarket in Shinjuku Subnade. Sanpei Store is, how should I put it... a supermarket. They have various affordable items. Since it's a supermarket, they also have side dishes and bento boxes. They have a microwave in the store, so you can warm up your food and take it home. So today, I bought a pork cutlet bowl. It cost 380 yen including tax. At first, I thought the portion looked a bit small, but when I tried it, it turned out to be quite filling. There were still many affordable and delicious bento boxes available, so I'd like to stop by again and try them out.

Many people would be surprised to find such a humble supermarket near the huge Shinjuku Station. The store is located underground, making it less noticeable. Residents of Shinjuku ward use it for grocery shopping, and commuters and students passing through Shinjuku Station also buy deli items, snacks, and bread to take home. While this supermarket may look like a typical one, it seems to have a slightly different selection. In the 100 yen canned food section, you can find anchovies and oil sardines alongside mackerel cans. In the meat section, they sell pork kidney, pig's ear, and young chicken gizzards, which are not commonly found in supermarkets of this size. Beef tendon is also priced at 98 yen per gram, which is quite cheap. These items are not available every day, so it's lucky if you happen to come across them. Despite being close to the station, the prices are not necessarily high. It's a mysterious supermarket with convenient and unconventional offerings.

A supermarket with branches in Shinjuku, Koenji, Mitaka, and Asakusa seems to have its main store here. In addition to the supermarket, they also operate a restaurant called "Hayashiya" and a convenience store called "Sanhachikyu," both located in Shinjuku. The deli section at Sanpei Store offers a wide variety of packed items and bento boxes. I chose the classic "Beef Croquette" from the deli section. The croquette had a good balance of sweet potato flavor and meaty goodness. Although it was a bit cold, the crispy coating and generous portion made it a job well done for a minor supermarket. The affordable price of 70 yen per piece was also a plus.

In the past, there used to be a fish market, a vegetable shop, and a butcher called "New Quick" in the basement of "My City". When I worked at a department store, I would also use these shops when we ran out of ingredients. The snack bar mama, the black-suited staff for the appetizers, the Asian or young kitchen staff would all go there to buy ingredients for their meals. If you eat at a place where the "dry goods" are served with a drag queen sitting next to you, it can get quite expensive (laughs). If you don't know about this place, you would have to go all the way to the vegetable shop on Kotakibashi Street or to Marumasa in Yotsuya Ni-chome. If you buy ingredients from Isetan or Mitsukoshi, you will get scolded from above. In Shinjuku East Exit, you can still feel the remnants of Showa era from Isetan to the back of Alta, Seibu Shinjuku Station, and the area around Sunroad Suehiro-Tei and Golden Gai. Although the Komagekijo Theater and the bowling alley have disappeared, "Sanpei" is still in business as usual. People living in Nihonbashi or Ginza struggle because they don't have supermarkets to shop at regularly, so I hope they continue to do their best for the residents of Shinjuku.

I found a supermarket I had never seen before while passing through the underground shopping area in Shinjuku, so I decided to go inside. It seems to be the main store, but it is actually a chain store. I checked on Tabelog and found out there are other locations in Asakusa and elsewhere. I bought a bottle of Ito En Oi Ocha green tea for only 98 yen, which is cheaper than at Maruetsu for 118 yen. I had previously bought the Peach Tea from Coca-Cola's Tea Flower series, so this time I bought the Orange Tea and Lemon Tea. They use the same fruit juice as Minute Maid, another Coca-Cola brand, so they are definitely delicious! Unfortunately, they only accept cash, unlike the 100-yen store Watts where you can use credit cards, Suica, or PayPay.

A day passed smoothly and as planned, without any issues. I thought about going out for a drink, but it seemed like too much trouble, so I ended up stopping by this place behind Alta instead. However, most of the side dishes were sold out, and the only thing left was the yakisoba for 140 yen. When I tried eating the yakisoba at a nearby drinking spot, it turned out to be a huge portion with a lot of oil. To think that it only cost 140 yen, truly impressive. This store is located near Shinjuku Station East Exit, towards the Subnade area. It's just a regular supermarket with no eat-in space. It's somewhat of a Shinjuku urban legend to have a normal supermarket like this in such a prime location, and not a high-end one.
