Mugwort red bean bread 248 yen (including tax) Apple and cinnamon bread 259 yen (including tax) There is a famous bakery nearby that specializes in red bean paste bread. They have over 10 different types of bread using red bean paste. The mugwort red bean bread had a thin layer of dough with mostly red bean paste inside (laughs). I love red bean paste, so I enjoyed it. There are many different varieties, so I want to try a different red bean paste bread next time. The apple and cinnamon bread is a Danish pastry and it was just okay. I prefer it to have a stronger cinnamon flavor. Thank you for the meal.

First visit 202305 (No.4516) 1. Purpose of visit - Visiting as the first stop on the second day of a Kyoto trip 2. Shop information - Genre on Tabelog: Bread - Opened in October 1984 - Goal is to have a long-standing relationship with the local customers' eating habits - The branch in Kitayama is a popular shop selected as one of the top 100 bread shops on Tabelog with a rating of 3.66 and 160 reviews - Business hours: [Weekdays] 07:00-18:30, [Sundays, Holidays] 07:00-18:00 - Closed on Mondays and the 1st Tuesday (please check the website calendar) - Takeout only ⚠️ No photography allowed inside the shop 3. Crowdedness and atmosphere on the day of the visit - Visited around 09:35 on a weekday with 2-3 customers in the shop at all times, a popular shop - The shop and shelves for selling are small, but the selection is decent 4. Customer service - Service was as per the manual 5. Purchased item - Small red bean bun for 248 yen As it was the first day and I couldn't buy a lot of bread, and also because I was on a trip, I only purchased the above popular item. When I received it, I could feel the weight of the item. Upon looking at the cross-section, I saw a thin bread dough filled with an incredible amount of homemade red bean paste. Just by looking at the cross-section, you can understand the popularity of this homemade red bean paste bun. It's a must-try. Thank you for the meal.

The cream puff was delicious with a smooth custard cream filling, perfect with tea. The "Yakimochi Pan" has a generous amount of red bean paste inside, similar in shape to an anpan. There is also a mugwort and red bean paste bread. It's a mystery how the skin doesn't tear even though the filling seems to overflow.

Bread plays a big role in daily life, especially for those who eat it every morning to prevent it from becoming monotonous, it is necessary to change it up. This bakery's red bean paste bun weighed 200g and was filled with chunky red bean paste. The bun had a mugwort dough. The cream bun had a smooth custard cream. I also bought a loaf of bread with reduced salt content.

I stopped by a bakery on my way back from a sudden trip to Kyoto for an errand at Marie France in Imadegawa. It was late, so there weren't many options left, but I bought a delicious-looking curry bun.

Marie France is rumored to have delicious anpan. Inside, there are rows of delicious bread. There are three types of anpan: yaki-mochi anpan, red bean paste anpan, and mugwort anpan. The three cost 680 yen. When I held it, I was surprised by how heavy it was. It was mostly filled with red bean paste. It was delicious! It was the most delicious anpan I have ever eaten!

I visited around 8:30 in the morning. Among the many breads priced around 200 yen each, there was a bagged set of 4 for about 300 yen, so I decided to try it. The set included white bread, croissant, red bean cream-filled bread, and a sweet and thin bread. It was enough for breakfast and I am satisfied. They also sell sandwiches and cream puffs, so I plan to try them next time.

There are many bakeries along Imadegawa Street. Among them, Marie France is famous for its red bean paste buns. On this day, they had sandwich-style, Danish-style, and red bean paste buns. I bought the "red bean paste bun that is like yakimochi," and when I cut it open, it was mostly filled with red bean paste. It must be irresistible for red bean paste lovers. Thank you for the meal!

I happened to pass by Marifrance on Imadegawa Street while walking. I saw customers constantly entering from the opposite side of the road, so I couldn't resist and decided to visit. Marifrance has a bakery with stores in Kitayama and Imadegawa, with the Kitayama store being selected as one of the top 100 stores in 2020 and 2022. Their signature menu item is the "anpan," which is popular for its homemade sweet bean paste filling. However, unaware of this, I purchased the "Country Mozzarella Cheese" which caught my eye with its cute round white silhouette. When I got home and tried the bread, it was dry and the cheese was hard, with no harmony between them. Later, I found posts online suggesting to warm it in the oven, where the cheese would stretch out perfectly. I realized my mistake of not researching beforehand and ended up making a regrettable visit to the bakery!!

Marie France Bakery, located a 5-7 minute walk from Imadegawa Station, is a charming bakery known for its delicious bread with carefully selected ingredients and dough. The shop opens at 7am, making it convenient for early visits, and even in the afternoon, there is a good selection of bread available. I ordered the popular Frankfurter and homemade curry bread. Both were surprisingly high quality, with the crispy curry bread filled with rich curry that perfectly complemented the bread. The Frankfurter, with its mayonnaise adding a tangy sweetness, enhanced the fluffy bread's deliciousness. This bakery is highly recommended in Kyoto, so be sure to visit. Thank you for the meal!

At Mari France in Imadegawa, one of my workplace areas, there are many bakeries featured in magazines. It's convenient because it's cheap, you can buy bread quickly while on the go, and you can have lunch while working. This day, I went to "Mari France" which is a 5-minute walk from Imadegawa Station. The shop was established in 1984 and has been around for quite a while. They have a small shop in Imadegawa and another one in Kitayama, which has been selected as one of the top 100 bakeries in Japan. Despite its small size, the shop offers a wide variety of bread. The shelves are filled with choices, making it hard to decide. Since buying too much would make me too full, I chose only three items. The Parmesan cheese and bacon bread for 200 yen is made from domestically grown wheat, giving it a soft and chewy texture with a hint of the hardness of French bread. The crispy Parmesan on the surface is fragrant and would be great with alcohol. The homemade curry bread for 190 yen is not oval but round, with a sweet taste. The crispy dough is filled with sweet curry. It's the type that kids would love. The An Butter for 180 yen was chosen solely based on its name. The surface has a crispy cookie dough texture that is between crispy and chewy. It is filled with plenty of homemade sweet bean cream and butter. I later found out that Mari France is famous for their sweet bean buns. I'll have to go back again.

恵ありてこそ

I was planning to buy bread from another store, but it was already closed at 5:00 pm (surprise!), so I decided to purchase some for tomorrow's breakfast at our restaurant near the dinner place. (1) Almond Twist When I had it on the same day, I felt the bread was lacking in flavor. The texture is dense and the dough is packed tightly. As time passes, the taste of the bread becomes stronger and sweeter, making it much more delicious. (2) Chestnut and Nut Bestrie This one was delicious. It is filled with chestnuts with skins, almonds, and pistachios. The nuts vary in size a bit, but they are coated in syrup, giving a crunchy texture rather than a crispy one. The vibration in the mouth while eating was enjoyable. The chestnuts with skins also have a wild taste, which is nice. I would like to use this as a reference when making sweets in the future. Not related to TV shows, though... (3) Curry Bread I have a small complaint about this one. The surface is a bit too hard. The "Authentic Beef Curry Bread" from the nearby Vie de France has a very nice texture in that regard. (I am not saying Vie de France is a good store. I have read reviews from people who seem to be picky about food other than MyRebi, and sometimes they dismiss commonly available items with comments like they are nothing special, or praise famous places for being delicious, but I don't think it's always the case. I believe that explanations and taste, as well as knowledge and taste, are fundamentally separate things. Sometimes, despite writing a lot of irrelevant information, there are times when I wonder about the taste which is the most important aspect.) On the other hand, the curry at our restaurant, while curry itself is not a building, is supported from the base by various aromatic vegetables, made with care and dedication over time. I didn't have high expectations based on the atmosphere of the restaurant, but surprisingly, it was very good in terms of taste for (2) and (3). I believe that the impression of a restaurant and the taste of the food are completely separate, but it is quite difficult to focus solely on taste and separate it from other elements, without being influenced by reputation or visual memories. I plan to review Croix Rousse in the near future, and while the atmosphere of the restaurant is definitely stylish, my rating will be almost the same. (I think it is very important not to be swayed by the atmosphere. At the same time, I believe it is crucial not to make assumptions. I always try to review each restaurant fairly with a flat mindset.) I also felt that the owner of the restaurant is very skilled in (home) cooking rather than bread. I could feel the passion for making bread coming from the back of the shop. I would like to revisit when I am nearby, so thank you in advance.

- Yomogi Anpan 180 yen As you can see from the cross-section, it is characterized by being packed tightly with red bean paste. The sweetness is elegant, so it is not too heavy. - Corn Danish 180 yen The dough is crispy, and the cream inside is a genuine custard like from a patisserie. - Chocolate Cornet 170 yen It is small in size, and the chocolate cream inside is not that much, so one is not enough, but the overall balance was good. All the breads were priced at less than 200 yen, which was very reasonable.

Today, I visited a bakery in Imadegawa, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto called "Marie France." This bakery is popular for its homemade red bean paste used in their bread. They offer a variety of bread priced around 200 yen each. Unfortunately, the popular anpan was already sold out when I visited. I heard that they also sell Kyoto's local bread "New Bird," but I couldn't find it. When I asked the staff, they told me that it is sold under the name "Frank Donuts." I ended up buying it and taking it home. The Frank Donuts had a crispy bread crumb coating and a curry flavor with sausage inside, reminiscent of New Bird. The crispy texture of the fried bread was enjoyable, and the subtle curry flavor was quite delicious. I also tried their homemade cream pan with the initials of Marie France on top. It was filled with a rich custard cream, giving it a luxurious taste. Overall, the quality of Marie France's bread is indeed high, and I was once again impressed by the deliciousness.

I went to buy bread for breakfast. Since I had never been there before, I drove there, but there was no parking space available, so I parked at a nearby coin parking lot. I bought a famous red bean paste bun, a teriyaki chicken sandwich, and a spicy cheese dog with sausage, among other items. Personally, I really liked the spicy cheese dog with sausage. I forgot to take a photo, but... The teriyaki chicken sandwich was a bit salty, but not bad. The popular red bean paste bun had a generous amount of red bean filling, and I consumed a lot of milk to finish it. I thought this shop had a heavy and rich flavor profile, but it was packed with charm that made me want to try other items as well. I would like to come back again. It's not the shop's responsibility, but the parking fee starting at 200 yen for 40 minutes seemed a bit wasteful for a short visit. Negotiating a 100 yen fee for 20 minutes would make it more accessible and beneficial for both the bakery and the parking lot.

Kyoto is the kingdom of bread. Especially around the Imperial Palace, there is a fierce competition among super famous bakeries, like a bakery war breaking out! Marie France is a relatively unknown shop supported modestly by local fans. I went to buy their signature cream bread, but oh no! The dough is moist and delicious, almost like a melon bread. The cream is rich and creamy, giving a satisfying volume despite its small size. This one is absolutely delicious! I also bought my mom's favorite red bean bread, which is packed full of sweet red bean paste, giving a great value! I think this place will become a hidden gem soon!

All of them are reasonably priced! ◆Chestnut Anpan (excluding tax 190 yen) ☆☆☆☆ Fluffy dough. Rich and sticky chestnut paste in abundance! I love chestnut paste, but it was a bit too much and too sweet. It would be better with a little less. ◆Walnut Camembert (excluding tax 250 yen) ☆☆☆ Crispy walnuts and Camembert cheese inside. The bread dough feels a bit dry, which is a shame.

The other day, I visited a bakery called Marie France in Kitayama, Kyoto. Originally, Marie France started with a store in Imadegawa and was established in 1984. So today, I visited the Imadegawa store. Marie France is a popular bakery known for their homemade red bean paste that they cook every day. The wooden signboard and drawings on the glass outside the store were cute. Inside the store, there were so many different types of bread on display. (I was allowed to take only one photo inside the store) I bought three types of bread to take home: - Kyoto Chestnut Green Tea Anpan: An anpan with Uji matcha kneaded into it. The red bean paste inside was dense and had a hint of matcha flavor. The texture of the walnuts was lovely, and the sesame flavor was also nice. - Country-style Mozzarella Cheese: A small white bread with chewy mozzarella cheese inside. The cheese became more prominent as I chewed on it. - Banana Muffin: Topped with walnuts and had a golden brown crust. The muffin had a fluffy sponge-like texture, and the subtle banana flavor was delicious. The crunchy texture of the walnuts was also pleasant. I enjoyed all three breads. It's fun to try different types of bread!

Located on Imadegawa Street, known as "Pant Street," is a small bakery with a lineup of renowned shops. I used to frequent this place during my university days, as it was close by, but it has been many years since I graduated. Time flies! There are various types of bread available, but the must-try items here are the three types of anpan: plain, mugwort, and yakimochi-style, each priced at 190 yen before tax. I made a reservation in advance for the mugwort and yakimochi-style anpan. It's convenient that they accept reservations for even small quantities! As you can see, the anpan here is huge! I remember weighing it once, and it was around 200g each. The bread dough makes up about 5% of the total weight, with the rest being mostly red bean paste. It's more like a "red bean paste bread envelope" than an anpan! The red bean paste is homemade and sweet, perfect for red bean paste lovers. I've tried all three types, but I recommend the mugwort flavor. It has a delicate mugwort fragrance that resembles Japanese sweets. The yakimochi-style may look like mochi, but it's actually just regular bread without any mochi elements. These large and cost-effective anpan are definitely worth a try! (laughs)

As I was walking from Nishijin towards Kyoto Imperial Palace, I came across this shop. It had a charming atmosphere and the pastries looked delicious, so I decided to stop by the next morning to buy some bread for breakfast. Upon entering the shop, I found it to be small but with a decent variety of bread, and it seemed quite popular as there were many customers coming in. I chose some pastries that looked appetizing for breakfast the next day, and my friend and I purchased the following: - Sosison 160 yen - Delicious salt bread 110 yen - Sossisfisel 190 yen - EBO 200 yen All of them were delicious, but personally, I liked the Sosison the best. It had a simple and tasty flavor with a French bread dough wrapped around additive-free sausage seasoned with black pepper and mayonnaise. I think it would have been even tastier if we had heated it up before eating. As for this shop, I only tried these four types of bread so I can't say much, but overall, the bread had a firm texture. Depending on the type of bread, I felt it was a bit too firm. After checking on Tabelog later, I found out that this shop is famous for its Anpan filled with sweet red bean paste. Thank you for the meal.
