I was planning to buy bread from another store, but it was already closed at 5:00 pm (surprise!), so I decided to purchase some for tomorrow's breakfast at our restaurant near the dinner place. (1) Almond Twist When I had it on the same day, I felt the bread was lacking in flavor. The texture is dense and the dough is packed tightly. As time passes, the taste of the bread becomes stronger and sweeter, making it much more delicious. (2) Chestnut and Nut Bestrie This one was delicious. It is filled with chestnuts with skins, almonds, and pistachios. The nuts vary in size a bit, but they are coated in syrup, giving a crunchy texture rather than a crispy one. The vibration in the mouth while eating was enjoyable. The chestnuts with skins also have a wild taste, which is nice. I would like to use this as a reference when making sweets in the future. Not related to TV shows, though... (3) Curry Bread I have a small complaint about this one. The surface is a bit too hard. The "Authentic Beef Curry Bread" from the nearby Vie de France has a very nice texture in that regard. (I am not saying Vie de France is a good store. I have read reviews from people who seem to be picky about food other than MyRebi, and sometimes they dismiss commonly available items with comments like they are nothing special, or praise famous places for being delicious, but I don't think it's always the case. I believe that explanations and taste, as well as knowledge and taste, are fundamentally separate things. Sometimes, despite writing a lot of irrelevant information, there are times when I wonder about the taste which is the most important aspect.) On the other hand, the curry at our restaurant, while curry itself is not a building, is supported from the base by various aromatic vegetables, made with care and dedication over time. I didn't have high expectations based on the atmosphere of the restaurant, but surprisingly, it was very good in terms of taste for (2) and (3). I believe that the impression of a restaurant and the taste of the food are completely separate, but it is quite difficult to focus solely on taste and separate it from other elements, without being influenced by reputation or visual memories. I plan to review Croix Rousse in the near future, and while the atmosphere of the restaurant is definitely stylish, my rating will be almost the same. (I think it is very important not to be swayed by the atmosphere. At the same time, I believe it is crucial not to make assumptions. I always try to review each restaurant fairly with a flat mindset.) I also felt that the owner of the restaurant is very skilled in (home) cooking rather than bread. I could feel the passion for making bread coming from the back of the shop. I would like to revisit when I am nearby, so thank you in advance.
