Formerly known as the Western-style restaurant "White Bear" in the East exit area, those who are familiar with it may feel a sense of nostalgia. Although I personally don't know much about it, I recently heard its name in connection with the Toshima Ward revitalization project, "Tokiwaso." It was a Western-style restaurant frequented by Osamu Tezuka. The restaurant, "White Bear," no longer exists, but its legacy lives on as a deli in the basement of Ikebukuro Seibu Department Store. "White Bear" is a standalone shop that offers gratin, salads, and Western-style deli dishes. There is also a separate shop specializing in fried foods in a different location. When registering this shop, I learned that their bite-sized pork cutlet won an award at some fried food competition. It was no wonder that there was always a long line in front of this shop. In the evenings, each shop offers sales, but I finally understood why this shop always had a large crowd lining up. But I'm always the same. (laughs) "Fried Oysters" (450 yen/3 pieces) - As shown in the photo, these fried oysters are quite large. This autumn and winter, I have tried various fried oysters, but this one was definitely top-tier. The crispy coating was perfect. "Crab Cream Croquette" (180 yen/1 piece) - As shown in the photo, the inside is a creamy crab filling. However, for some reason, the coating absorbed a lot of oil, which was a bit concerning. I imagine it was fried last, which might explain the change in the oil's texture. While it may be necessary to prevent the crab flavor from transferring to other items, the change in oil texture was a bit bothersome. Overall, it was a delicious meal. Also, be aware that sauce packets are sold separately at this shop. It may not be an issue if you're eating at home, but many people seem to enjoy their meal at the rooftop garden tables during the day.
