Actually, I was originally planning to go to the shop next door (because I saw on the travel service that you could get kelp ice cream). But I heard a cute old man next door chatting happily with tourists, and it didn't feel pushy like typical sales, so I was drawn in, thinking "the atmosphere of that shop seems nicer... oh, a big crab! Such beautiful colors! And the price for two crabs is so reasonable! You would never find this in Tokyo." So, I ended up buying two crabs on the spot. I also wanted some authentic Rausu kelp, so I asked the cashier for advice. She kindly explained the different grades and recommendations to me, so I decided to splurge and bought some for my family and me. Since we love meat, I asked if they had any delicious salmon, and at the end of June, they had something called "Tokishirazu" which is very fatty and delicious. Unfortunately, Abeshoten had already sold out, but they told me that the roadside station next door might still have some. I went to check, but they were also sold out, and all the Tokishirazu were reserved for the weekend festival... and the price was quite high... so I had to think about it and left. Then I heard that the 2nd-floor restaurant had a Tokishirazu set meal (single item 1,500 yen + set 300 yen = 1,800 yen), so I decided to have lunch there to try it out... and indeed, the meat was thick and very fatty, and it was delicious! So, I went back to the friendly Abeshoten and asked if they could send me Tokishirazu when it becomes available in a week or so, and I paid in advance. (I'm sorry if it was a bother because they probably had other reservations, and it's uncertain if they would get more Tokishirazu... sorry!) By the way, the Tokishirazu is the responsibility of the managing director, who interrupted his explanation to the customers and was very considerate in helping me. They even refunded the amount I had already paid with a JAF card in cash, so they are truly a fair shop! Now, the crucial Tokishirazu arrived in a frozen package within a week! They included more than I expected, with large thick fillets vacuum-packed and even a description of the Tokishirazu, which was very impressive. I immediately delivered it to my elderly mother, who has a decreased appetite, and she said, "It was truly delicious." Thanks to Abeshoten, I was able to show filial piety to my mother. Many thanks to the cute old man and the friendly family members who were so helpful and understanding. I can't easily go to Rausu, but next time, I would like to order fish and sea urchin online. Thank you for everything! It was the best memory of my Shiretoko trip!!
