I visited the restaurant around 2 pm on the first Sunday of April. The place was very quiet, perhaps because it was before the cherry blossom season. The atmosphere was filled with a Taisho romance vibe and was managed by a lovely couple. The beautiful furnishings were well taken care of, including a cloisonné hand towel tray featuring the night view of Hakodate, adding a touch of elegance to the interior. I ordered the fruit anmitsu, which was generously topped with fruits and homemade white balls and agar jelly. I requested coffee instead of the default matcha, and they kindly accommodated my request. Towards the end of the meal, they served a homemade one-bite sherbet, which was yuzu-flavored that day. The sherbet had a refreshing aftertaste and complemented the slightly sticky texture of the anmitsu. Overall, I was very satisfied with the content, atmosphere, and price. It's a great place for adults to relax alone or with friends or a partner.

In May 2022, I visited a dessert shop housed in a traditional Japanese house from the Meiji era. I tried their fruit anmitsu, which was delicious. The interior decor was lovely, and the selection of dishes was also beautiful. The towel holder was made of beautiful cloisonné. I was impressed to learn that everything from the shiratama (rice flour dumplings) to the agar jelly and sweet bean paste were handmade. I also enjoyed a cup of tea with my anmitsu, although I wish they had served it a bit later, as it had cooled by the time I finished my dessert. The lemon sherbet served as a palate cleanser was also delicious. I would love to visit this place again when I come back to Hakodate.

Get off at the Hakodate City Tram Juji-gai Station and head towards the Red Brick Warehouses from the Juji-gai Intersection. At the second intersection, you will come out onto Kaikyo Street, and right across the street is the shop. However, you cannot cross at this intersection, so you will need to cross at the intersection one to the right and loop back around. The interior of the shop exudes a retro atmosphere, and it takes quite some time from ordering to serving. During this time, you can enjoy the relaxed flow of time at this shop. On this day, I ordered the "Iced Coffee Set" and chose the "Baked Pudding" for the set sweet. The pudding was very smooth and had a rich, delicious egg flavor. The coffee ice was made by freezing coffee liquid, ensuring that it does not dilute even when it melts, and the good bitterness of the Showa-era coffee further enhanced the retro feel. The "One-Bite Sorbet" served as a palate cleanser at the end was also pleasantly cold and delicious.

A retro cafe located between Hakodate Jujigai Street tram stop and the Red Brick Warehouses, renovated from a traditional store. The concept is inspired by the Taisho era, offering matcha and traditional Japanese sweets like kuzukiri, as well as delicious homemade desserts. The drink set includes a choice of sweets and sherbet. The homemade baked pudding is especially delicious, with a smooth texture and a perfect balance of bitter caramel sauce. The ice in the iced coffee is made from frozen coffee to prevent dilution. The attention to detail extends to the dishes and decor, providing a luxurious and indulgent experience.

I arrived at the restaurant around 3 pm on a holiday and had to wait on the second floor because it was fully booked. The service provided by a gentleman and a dignified grandmother was lovely, and I could tell they were very kind. The view from the window and the furniture were of high quality. I recommend checking them out. I ordered a set of red bean paste and matcha, as well as a two-layered ice cream. The red bean paste was homemade and beautifully presented, while the ice cream included orange syrup-soaked, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. The homemade feel made it delicious and comforting. Personally, I think you should try the ice cream here as it adds to the experience of dining at this restaurant. I believe that the taste of matcha can vary depending on who prepares it, so I didn't touch it. From the furniture to the dishes and even the call bell, you can feel the thoughtfulness of the owner throughout the restaurant.

Handmade sweets and dessert dishes with a retro and stylish design, antique furniture, and nostalgic small items create a cafe with a unique charm. As soon as you open the door, you'll be amazed by the nostalgic interior. I chose a calm seat by the window. I ordered a matcha set for ¥1150 and a three-year aged coffee set for ¥1100. For sweets, I chose homemade pudding and homemade kintsuba. The pudding was served with a double sauce of custard and whipped cream, creating a luxurious taste. It had a smooth texture and a hint of egg flavor. The kintsuba had a subtle sweetness and a nice texture with the flavor of red beans. The matcha had a fragrant aroma and a hint of bitterness, making it delicious. The coffee, with its distinctive bitterness, also had a rich flavor and sweetness. I took a break in this cafe filled with Taisho-era romance during my sightseeing trip. I had a wonderful time. I heard that Kyu Chayatei is designated as a traditional building in Hakodate City, known for its classical Japanese-Western fusion architecture.

Located near the Hakodate Bay Area, this cafe is inspired by the Taisho era. The building is a renovated traditional Japanese-Western hybrid house designated as a historic building in Hakodate. The first floor has a Japanese style while the second floor has a Western style, making it a unique feature of Hakodate. Surrounded by tourist attractions such as the Takadaya Kichiemon Museum and Japan's oldest concrete electric pole. The interior is filled with antique furniture. When I visited with a friend, we ordered the Fruit Anmitsu Set (comes with a drink and a small sherbet for ¥1250) and the Matcha Set (includes today's snack and a small sherbet for ¥1100). I chose coffee for my drink and a baked pudding for the snack. Other options included yokan, kintsuba, and banana chiffon cake. It was a satisfying experience to be inside a traditional building. The Fruit Anmitsu was delicious with plenty of fruits.

While strolling through the retro streets of Hakodate, I came across a charming cafe called "Chabou Kissa Kyuusatei." Originally built in the late Meiji era as a combined store and residence for a seafood merchant, this building has been designated as a traditional structure showcasing the prosperity of that time. Stepping inside, it feels like stepping into the world of Taisho Romance. The antique furniture, handmade goods, and intricately designed tableware lined up are truly impressive. The recommended menu item is the fruit anmitsu, which is known for its generous amount of fruits. The cherry blossom-shaped mochi on top is handmade, adding a unique touch. The gentle sweetness is truly addictive.

This is a review of a café I visited in my hometown of Hakodate in 2011. The café had a retro atmosphere with antique furniture and a mix of Japanese and Western design elements. I ordered a matcha set with a homemade pudding and a sencha set with a seasonal sweet. The café was located in a building that was originally a seafood merchant's store and residence built in the late Meiji era. The café also featured jewelry made by the owner on the second floor. The service was warm and welcoming, and the overall experience was delightful.

Located right next to the Kanemori Warehouse in Hakodate, this building dates back to around 100 years ago, towards the end of the Meiji era. Their signature soft serve ice cream, called "Mirukii Soft" (360 yen), is a rich and sweet treat that tastes like it's mixed with sweetened condensed milk.
