As I was strolling around Shinjuku, I realized it was already evening. I decided to buy dinner on my way home. When I headed to the basement of Takashimaya Times Square, I noticed that the discounts were starting. The energetic atmosphere with the shopkeepers calling out caught my attention. Just as I was passing by, a shop assistant offered me a half-priced deal, which made me stop in my tracks (laughs). I ended up buying a bento box from Ougi Sushi, a shop in Yushima. It was a great deal, wasn't it? Feeling pleased, I headed back home. The bento boxes I bought were the "Mitsai Bento" and the "Shinobazu Bento," both with a variety of colorful and delicious dishes like simmered foods with a gentle flavor. Depachika is always enjoyable, isn't it? Thank you for the meal.

It is easy to use for dressing rooms, get-well gifts, or small errands. I like that it has a slightly sweet taste in the vinegar used for rice in Kansai style.

Thank you for your hard work. This is HD. I have a bento from Takashimaya Shinjuku store. If you go in the evening, it will be cheaper. On this day, I bought a bento with matsutake mushrooms and a two-tiered bento, which were discounted. The cross-section of the matsutake mushroom was an interesting shape. It is a room temperature bento, so it comes with a pH adjuster, which is quite reassuring. The two-tiered bento had chirashi sushi, green beans slightly discolored, grilled fish, tempura, simmered dish, and beef sukiyaki, all of which were delicious.

Shinjuku Takashimaya B1 "Yushima Sensu" seems to be a bento shop affiliated with the group company that follows the Kamakura Kenchoji Temple's restaurant "Sakurakatei" and Shinjuku NS Building's "Orizuru-tei" and "Tenten-tei". However, I only learned this now while wandering around the department store basement. I couldn't help but stop when I heard the voice of the lady saying, "This bento here is 30% off! It's just displayed here!" I was also tempted by the "Sasamaki Sushi," but I made sure to focus only on the discounted items! The "Shinobazu" for 1080 yen (tax included) → discounted to 756 yen was decided! The contents of the 21cm x 18cm x 5cm bento box include... tea rice, thickly cooked egg, grilled salmon with yuzu, konago fish, simmered dish (beef sukiyaki, pumpkin, taro, ganmo, carrot, fuki, kinpira gobou, hijiki, and others), scallop, bell pepper, broccoli, lotus root, seaweed, pickled cherry blossom, and other assorted side dishes. A traditional banquet bento with a focus on scallop-topped tea rice and simmered dishes. I'm satisfied to have enjoyed it at 30% off. Thank you for the meal!

Yushima Sensu is famous for its bento boxes and they also offer delivery service. I have tried their food a few times for work. I bought the "Sasamaki Sushi Box of 6" for 1188 yen. The sasamaki sushi here has a nice flavor of bamboo leaves and the taste is rich. It goes well as a side dish with alcohol too. The box includes small snapper, bamboo shoots, shiitake mushroom, plum bonito, pickled vegetables, and shrimp. The pickled vegetables are finely chopped and easy to eat, which shows attention to detail. The plump shrimp is great, but my favorites are the thick shiitake mushroom and bamboo shoots. Shiitake mushrooms go perfectly with beer. Honestly, it's a bit pricey, but I crave it occasionally. The portion is not large, so it might not be enough for a grown man's meal.

Located in the corner of the bento sales area on the basement 1st floor of Takashimaya Shinjuku store is a shop called Yushima Sen. Apart from bento and chirashi sushi, their signature products such as sasamaki sushi and sasamusubi are displayed at the storefront. Before posting this review, I found out that the main store is located in Ikenohata, and they have outlets in six department stores in Tokyo. Among the many bento options for cherry blossom viewing available at nearby stores, I chose the "Four Seasons Bento - Spring Dance (6 Go)" from this store. The deciding factor was its attractive presentation and relatively reasonable price. There was also an 8-go version available, but it was more expensive, and I didn't want to waste any leftovers by taking it home. The contents were as follows: green tea rice (domestic), bamboo shoots, rapeseed blossoms, wheat gluten, foam snow, thick rolled omelette, grilled fish, paprika tempura, lotus root and minced chicken with spicy mustard, shrimp, grilled pork, burdock salad, broccoli, simmered daikon, baby carrot, rolled kombu, silk pods, princess takano, hijiki seaweed, and a small amount of pickled cherry blossoms. It was nice to be able to try a variety of dishes in small portions. I felt quite full afterwards. The simmered dishes and rice dishes were also delicious. I once made a mistake buying a high-end bento based on its name value, so it's important to be able to discern quality even from lesser-known places.

That day, after eating soft serve ice cream on the 1st floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya, I stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for dinner. I didn't expect it to be registered, but if it is, I feel like sharing a review. Among the many lovely bento boxes, I chose the "Shinobazu Bento" (1050 yen) for 735 yen with a 300 yen discount, and I immediately decided to buy it. I also took a picture, it's a beautiful bento box. It didn't have any chicken, which I don't like, so I finished it all.

At the direct-operated store of Sasamaki Sushi Honpo "Tokyo Yushima Ougi" located at the end of Ueno Pond, you can find their sales floor at Shinjuku Takashimaya department store basement. The sign still says "Tokyo Yushima" because the shop used to be located in front of Yushima Tenjin (Tenmangu) Shrine. After enjoying a Sasebo burger at Burgers Base in front of JR Yoyogi Station, my family and I headed to Takashimaya nearby to look for a family-sized bento box - another easy option for me (bitter smile). The day of our visit was a scorching weekday afternoon under the blazing sun ☀☀☀ It was around 1:30 PM ☀☀ In the midst of summer, it's usually better to shop for fresh food in the evening, but due to our lunchtime visit to Burgers Base, we ended up going out earlier than usual. In the department store basement, I thought about buying a sukiyaki bento from Ningyocho Imahan, but the bento boxes on display had a consumption deadline of about 3 hours later, and the ones with a consumption deadline until 11 PM had not been delivered yet, so I gave up. The sales floor of "Tokyo Yushima Ougi" was right nearby, and as I was gazing at the bento boxes, the salesperson offered to give me a 200 yen discount on the "Mansai Bento" with a consumption deadline of 10 PM. Takashimaya's time sale usually starts at 5 PM! But it was still only 1:30 PM! "I have to buy this!" I thought, and bought the "Mansai Bento" and a 6-piece Sasamaki Sushi (*^_^*) Even though it wasn't during the time sale, the reason they offered a discount was because this was a direct-operated store and the salesperson was in charge. The Sasamaki Sushi uses ingredients that are not raw, such as bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, umeboshi bonito, small sea bream, shrimp, and other Kyoto-style delicacies on sushi rice, wrapped in real bamboo leaves. The consumption deadline was 9 PM. They advised me to store it in the refrigerator, preferably in the vegetable compartment. They also included a cold pack. Since it was scorching hot, I immediately hopped on an air-conditioned train, so I didn't have to carry the bento around outside for long. I was able to make a great purchase even though it wasn't during the time sale (*^_^*) (Visited on 7/17/2012) *I registered the store myself, so it doesn't have a rating yet. *I would like to give it a 5.0 for value for money, but since I purchased it at a discount, I have marked the value as negative.

Now, after enjoying bara-chirashi, I walked a lot and decided to visit a department store that I don't usually go to. Since there is no Takashimaya near my home, it felt fresh to visit Takashimaya Shinjuku store. I explored the food section in the basement and found interesting shaped sushi, so I bought it as a souvenir. The sushi called "Yushima-ogi" costs 864 yen. It is sushi wrapped in a fan-shaped paper and placed in a container. Although it is called sushi, it mainly consists of mountain ingredients such as sweet chestnut, burdock, lotus root, bamboo shoots, donko mushroom, fried tofu, and kinshi tamago. It's more like a mixed rice dish with various ingredients, which is quite enjoyable.

Thank you for your hard work... It's hot even though it's October... This is a bento box with sasamaki sushi. It costs 1,080 yen. The fried chicken is tender and delicious. The fried shumai is also good. The green color of the green beans is well maintained. There is one inari sushi with egg on top, one sasamaki sushi with bonito flakes and plum paste.
