I usually don't like this kind of sweets like ohagi given by customers, but it was so delicious that I was surprised! The downside is that you have to eat it the same day, but even though there were 10 pieces, I could easily eat them all. I want to eat it again!

"Oseki Mochi" Kyoto Fushimi Subway Karasuma Line Takeda Station Oseki Mochi 10 pieces (7 white mochi/3 grass mochi) Takeout These mochi are chewy with a good bounce and stretchiness. They are not too sweet, and have a generous amount of moderately sweet red bean paste on top. The bite-sized pieces are easy to eat and would make a great gift.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, both Oseki Mochi and I have our days off, so I had given up on being able to eat it. But luckily, a friend who I met up with in Kyoto bought it for me, and my wish came true. The chewy texture of the mugwort mochi and white mochi, along with my favorite coarse red bean paste, was delightful. As someone from Mie Prefecture, I am used to eating Akafuku, but I still prefer coarse red bean paste. That thin skin of the red beans that lingers in your mouth after finishing it is irresistible. Kyoto sweets and Kyoto cuisine are truly amazing. #KyotoSweets #KyotoCuisine #FushimiSweets #FushimiCuisine

Located right next to Kyoto Minami Interchange with a spacious parking lot, this shop is perfect for souvenirs. Their bite-sized mochi comes with 4 yomogi-flavored and 3 plain, generously filled with red bean paste. The mochi is fluffy and chewy, with a delicate sweetness that won't get tiresome. Priced under 500 yen, it makes for a great little souvenir. I was curious about their ohagi and found it to be crispy and easy to eat, with a delicious rice flavor that lingers.

Visiting Jonangu Shrine to see the plum blossoms. The weather was nice on the weekend and there were many people visiting the shrine. There is a shop in front of Jonangu Shrine that sells Oseki Mochi. The mochi has a short shelf life and is best eaten on the same day. It is a small white mochi with a generous amount of large red beans paste. The simple appearance belies the truly delicious taste. It's a must-try when visiting Jonangu Shrine, as it's so addictively good.

Located in Fushimi Ward in Kyoto, next to Jonangu Shrine, is "Osekimochi" which is said to have a history of 450 years. They open at 8:30 in the morning. Once you try Osekimochi, you will want to eat it again. The mochi is chewy and delicious. Make sure to eat it on the day you purchase it, as it can harden if left uneaten. The mochi is filled with Tamba red bean paste. The set of 10 also includes yomogi mochi, which is very impressive.

The shop was a bit far from the station so I didn't have the chance to visit, but I happened to be nearby for something else and decided to stop by. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food I had later at home was really delicious with a light taste that I finished in no time. I'm planning to visit Jounangu Shrine to see the autumn leaves, so I'm thinking of stopping by again then. Thank you for the meal ❤️

I was looking at Tabelog and saw a photo of "Oseki Mochi" near here with delicious looking red bean paste, so I stopped by. The store was big and impressive. The red bean paste was not too sweet and delicious as I imagined. The mochi was also impressive and tasty. They also have delicious Ohagi. I like it more than Akafuku. It would make a great gift.

On Friday at 10:45, I went to "Osekimochi" in Takehata, Kyoto. I bought a pack of 4 pieces for 420 yen, which consisted of 3 "Shiromochi" and 1 "Kusamochi". As I was carrying it home, the box tilted in all directions, and when I opened it, everything was shifted to one side. I took a bite of the Shiromochi. It was delicious. The softness of the mochi was perfect, and the sweet bean paste was not too sweet, making it easy to eat as much as you want. I took a bite of the Kusamochi. It was also delicious. Unlike the Shiromochi, it had a nice mugwort fragrance that came through. I regret not getting the 6-piece pack. I think simple sweets like this will be loved forever. Thank you for the meal.

Established during the Eiroku era, this long-standing traditional Japanese confectionery shop originally started as a teahouse along the Toba Kaido road. After the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, it moved to its current location in 1932. The shop's specialty, "Oseki Mochi," is said to have been offered to travelers passing through the road by a woman named Seki. Made with a modest sweetness using Tanba Dainagon adzuki beans and chewy mochi (white & green), these treats are best enjoyed on the same day. I refrigerated two pieces in the vegetable compartment and had them the next morning without any issues. The Oseki Mochi is available in a pack of 6 for ¥650. For more information or to place an order, contact 075-611-3078. Today, I visited a traditional Japanese confectionery shop near Jonangu Shrine in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. The shop, called Oseki Mochi, is famous for its "Kasane" shaped rice cakes, a specialty that has been passed down since the Edo period. Inside the shop, they had their famous "Oseki Mochi" on display, which is a set of white rice cakes and mugwort rice cakes. Another specialty they offer is Ohagi. Although there was a dining area inside the shop, they were currently only offering sales at the storefront, possibly due to the impact of the pandemic. The rice cakes had a same-day expiration date, so I purchased a pack of four rice cakes that I could finish on my own. The pack included a bookmark with a description of Oseki Mochi, which explained the origin of the name from a girl named "Seki Onna" who used to sell rice cakes lined up on the back of a hat, which eventually became a specialty in Toba, southern Kyoto. The Oseki Mochi was filled generously with Azuki bean paste, almost hiding the rice cake underneath. The rice cake had a chewy texture and the flavor of the Azuki bean paste was delightful. The mugwort rice cake also had a chewy texture and I enjoyed tasting the specialty rice cakes from the Toba Kaido.

After visiting various shrines during the New Year period, I made a stop at Jonangu Shrine at the end of my journey. I took a bus from Shijo-Omiya and found the shrine along a main street. On my way there, I passed by without stopping. After completing my visit, as we were about to walk to Takeda Station, I couldn't resist the temptation to buy some mochi. My husband felt the same way, so we decided to buy a pack of 6 mochi from a shop nearby. We enjoyed them as a late-night snack when we got home. The mochi was light and delicious, with red bean paste from Tango inside. It was so good that we finished 3 pieces in no time. I also regret not buying the warabi mochi that looked tempting. The packaging had "Oseki Mochi" written on it in a cute way. Although it's not easy to get to Jonangu Shrine, I hope to visit again for a thanksgiving pilgrimage and to buy more Oseki Mochi. I was delighted to find such a great souvenir. Thank you for the meal.

It's delicious! A friend brought me some mochi from a shop near Jonangu Shrine on the Toba Kaido Road in Kyoto. I didn't know about this place before! In the Edo period, there was a beautiful girl at a tea shop in Toba who would offer mochi shaped like a hat to passersby. The mochi became very popular. They offer two types of small mochi: white mochi and grass mochi, both filled with red bean paste. The mochi has a nice texture and the red bean paste is delicious. Everyone who tried it said it was tasty. Even though it's in Kyoto, I had no idea this place existed. I must go buy some from the shop!

Every year, when I finish praying at Jonan-gu Shrine, I always stop by this shop because I love their Oseki Mochi. Oseki Mochi is a traditional Japanese sweet with a long history that has been passed down through generations. Since I was heading to Osaka right after, I bought a small pack of 4 pieces for a snack later in the evening. I also bought some as souvenirs for my friends. The Oseki Mochi has a soft mochi base topped with mildly sweet red bean paste, and one of the pieces in the 4-pack has a mugwort flavor. It's a simple and delicious traditional Japanese sweet that I really enjoy. It's best to eat them as soon as possible for the softness and flavor of the mochi. I wish I could have eaten them fresh at the shop, but unfortunately, they are currently not allowing eating in. I think they are probably the most delicious when they are freshly made. The small size of each piece makes it easy to eat in one bite. Thank you for the treat. I look forward to stopping by again next year when I visit Jonan-gu Shrine.

I drove past the South Interchange and decided to buy some sweets after a long time. I bought a pack of 6 rice cakes for 650 yen. Inside the pack, there are 4 white rice cakes and 2 grass rice cakes. I wondered why they weren't divided into 3 each. However, if you ask the staff, they can divide it into 3 each for you. As for the taste, the rice cakes are very soft. The red bean paste on top is not too sweet, making it delicious without being overwhelming.

Located near Kyoto Minami Interchange. I tried to dine in but was informed that only takeout was available. I purchased a pack of 6 pieces of Oseki Mochi. I was also interested in Ohagi, but since both needed to be eaten today, I had to give up on it. I brought it home and enjoyed it right away. When I opened the lid, I was surprised to see the bean paste was spread messily on top (^_^;) The Ohagi had a smooth bean paste neatly wrapped around it, but I guess that's how Oseki Mochi is. I was expecting something like the Azuki bean version of Akafuku. The pack of 6 includes 2 pieces of Yomogi Mochi. I tried it and it was delicious, not too sweet. It's safe to eat a few pieces in a row. Both the white mochi and Yomogi mochi were delicious. They have a simple and tasty flavor. Thank you for the meal!

Located about a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Municipal Subway Takenouchi Station, this shop offers parking. Established during the Eiroku era, this long-standing Japanese confectionery shop is known for its Oseki mochi. It's a great place to take a break when visiting Jonan-gu Shrine right across the street. Unfortunately, the cafe corner was closed on the day of the visit, so the mochi was taken to go. A pack of 4 costs 430 yen including tax, with 3 white mochi and 1 grass mochi. The mochi has a traditional texture and a gentle sweetness from Tanba Dainagon red beans. It's a simple, old-fashioned flavor. Will definitely stop by again when visiting Jonan-gu Shrine.

Near Jonan-gu Shrine, there is a shop along the Keihan Kaido selling Oseki Mochi. The name has a long history, but I'll skip that for now. I bought a pack which came with a description. This mochi has been around since the Edo period. Although I'm from Fushimi Ward, I had never heard of it before. I bought a pack of four to enjoy by myself, with three white mochi and one grass mochi. At first glance, it may look like a slightly rough version of Akafuku. But when I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised. The mochi was incredibly chewy, with a hint of saltiness, and paired perfectly with the subtly sweet red bean paste. It was delicious! Just a heads up, they recommended eating it on the same day as it can harden if left for too long.

Located on the north side of the Kyoto Minami Interchange, Oseki Mochi is a place I have visited for the second time. I really like the refined sweetness of the red bean paste here. While it may not be cheap, it is a suitable everyday gift that is sure to be appreciated without being too formal. The Oseki Mochi has just the right balance of sweetness, with a red bean paste that allows you to taste the beans and a firm mochi that provides a satisfying chew. The Ohagi, which contains three types of grass mochi, has a smooth and elegant strained red bean paste that harmonizes well with the rice cake, creating a well-balanced and delicious flavor. If you love red bean paste, be sure to stop by.
