A few years ago, I visited this store and my impressions are almost the same, so I didn't plan to review it. However, during my recent visit to Kyoto, I decided to record all the places I visited, so I want to introduce this store. I arrived in Kyoto on the morning Shinkansen at 7:00 am, transferred to the subway, and got off at Gojo Station. I dropped off my luggage at the nearest hotel and walked east on Matsubara Street towards my first destination, Rokuharamitsuji Temple. Before reaching the temple, I stopped by this store along the street. It had been 9 years since my last visit. The store's name, "Yurei Kodate Ame," comes from a story about a woman who used to come every night asking for candy. The candy seller noticed that leaves were mixed in with the money in the box and decided to follow her one night. She suddenly disappeared in front of a grave, and when they dug it up, they found a baby holding the candy the seller had sold. The woman never appeared again, and the child was taken in by the temple and became a respected monk. This story is said to have inspired GeGeGe no Kitaro (Kitaro of the Graveyard). When I decided to visit Rokuharamitsuji Temple, I remembered this store and wanted to stop by. After purchasing a bag of candy and chatting with the store owner, I headed to my destination while enjoying a sample candy. I enjoyed the candy at home later. The Yurei Kodate Ame is made of malt sugar and syrup with no additives. It has a reddish-brown color and uneven shape, which adds to its charm. When you first taste it, you don't feel the intense sweetness common in modern candies, as the sweetness is subtle. However, as you continue to enjoy it, a gentle sweetness gradually emerges, making it delicious. It's a subtle sweetness that lingers, just like the story of the ghost raising a baby. I found myself finishing it in just a few days. I don't have any photos, so I hope you understand. I definitely want to revisit this store every time I go to Kyoto from now on.

There is a historic candy shop with a story dating back to the year 1599, equivalent to the 4th year of the Keicho era. The candy has a refined taste like elegant barley sugar. It has a nostalgic flavor. Priced at 500 yen per bag, it is a bit on the expensive side. Rather than just enjoying the taste, buying the Ghost Child-Rearing Candy from this shop becomes a conversation starter.

This is a famous restaurant that has been featured in TV shows and guidebooks. The entrance of the restaurant has a signboard explaining the history of the place. It may sound like a ghost story, but it is actually a tale of a mother's love for her child. This story is also told in traditional Japanese storytelling called rakugo. Even the packaging of their famous candy, "Ghost Child Rearing Candy," has an explanation about the story. The transparent amber candy is made with love.

Visited a long-established candy specialty store called "Minatoya Yurei Kodzuke Ame Honpo" in Roppongi. The store, founded over 450 years ago, has a unique name with an interesting story behind it. Legend has it that a woman used to come every night to buy candy. After she left, the owner found a leaf in the cash box each time, suspecting it might be a fox. Following the woman one night, they discovered a graveyard where the sound of a crying baby led them to the woman's corpse and a baby buried there. After saving the baby, the woman never returned to buy candy again. This area, known as "Torihenno," used to be a burial ground. Quite a convincing legend, isn't it? This story also inspired the character in "GeGeGe no Kitaro." Yurei Kodzuke Ame (¥500) Despite the eerie legend, the owner was incredibly friendly. They encouraged me to try as many candy samples as I wanted. The candy was firm like a traditional sugar candy but had a refreshing sweetness, making it enjoyable even for those who don't like overly sweet treats. Will definitely visit again.

On the way to Rokuharamitsuji Temple, I saw a shop with a strange and scary name, so I passed by it at first. However, on my way back from the temple visit, I took a closer look at the sign and realized that it was actually a shop from a Japanese folktale. The story goes that a woman who had passed away became a ghost and visited this shop to buy candy for the child she gave birth to after her death. The child later became a monk, and the shop has been thriving ever since. The candy they sell is called "bekkou ame" (amber candy). The kind old man working at the shop offered me a sample, and it had a gentle taste. I decided to buy a box as a souvenir for 500 yen. I will savor it with care!

Have you ever heard the story of ghosts coming to buy candy to raise children? It is a famous anecdote in Japan. This story has been used as a motif in "GeGeGe no Kitaro". A woman with a pale face visits a candy store and asks to buy candy for one mon. The store owner finds a ginkgo leaf in the cash box, which is strange, and suspects the woman. That night, the woman visits again to buy candy, and the owner decides to follow her. He sees the woman walking to the graveyard, where she disappears in front of a grave, and the sound of a baby crying is heard from inside the grave. Back then, it cost one mon, but now it costs 500 yen. I wonder what happened to the ghost now. Sweet taste.

"Minatoya Koyouame Honpo" is a renowned candy shop in Japan with a history of over 450 years. The shop is famous for a legend where a female ghost would come at night to buy candy, and the shop still sells the same candy today in Kyoto. The legend goes like this: "A long time ago, a woman started coming every night to buy candy. The next morning, the shop owner found a single leaf in the money box as payment. Curious, the owner followed the woman one night and saw her disappear at Toribe Mountain cemetery, where the sound of a crying baby could be heard. They dug up the grave and found a baby who had been born after the woman's death. The woman's ghost had been buying candy for her child, and the leaf given as payment was a shikimi leaf from her grave. The candy used to be sold as water candy wrapped in chopsticks, but now it is a simple candy made from malt sugar. This story of a mother's love for her child even after death has been passed down for over four hundred years. Besides the candy, the matcha green tea is also recommended for being affordable and delicious."

When I was walking down the street, I came across a shop that caught my attention with the word "ghost" and "child-rearing candy". The shop seemed to have a long history and had an old feel to it. When I entered the shop, the owner came out from the back. There were samples available, but I decided to purchase some first and then tried a sample. It tasted like a butterscotch candy with a gentle sweetness that was comforting. The uneven pieces added to its charm. I have been eating this candy when I feel tired while working. It always makes me feel warm and helps me relax. It's a great souvenir or treat for yourself.

Every year, it's a tradition to visit Daifuku Maeri Inaho and receive rice stalks as souvenirs. Even on New Year's Day, they are open early in the morning. The simple taste of this candy is delicious. On the way back from the New Year's visit in Kyoto, it's a must to buy souvenirs here. They have a long history and continue to uphold traditions, making you feel the ancient charm of Kyoto on New Year's Day. Great! Kyoto.

First Visit 2022012 (No.4131) 1. Purpose of Visit - This is my first visit to Kyoto in three years since October 2019, so I chose this store as one of the places to gather a wide range of topics from long-established stores dating back to the Muromachi period to new stores that seem to be popular in the 2020s. 2. Shop Information - Genre on Tabelog: Japanese sweets - A "candy" shop that has been in business for over 450 years - There is a legend that the spirit of a deceased mother delivered candy to protect and nurture her precious child, with the "Ghost Child-Rearing Candy" being the representative confectionery - Business hours: 10:00-16:00 - Regular holiday: None - Takeout only ※Legend: Once upon a time, in the fourth year of the Keicho era, after burying the wife of Mr. Emura in Kyoto, a few days later, a crying child was heard from the ground, so they dug it up and found it to be the child born to the deceased wife. At that time, there was a woman who came to buy candy at night, and after the child was unearthed, she never came again. This child became a monk at the age of eight and diligently trained without neglect, eventually becoming a renowned monk. On March 15, 1686, at the age of 68, he passed away. Therefore, the candy sold in this house was widely promoted as the "Ghost Child-Rearing Candy," and eventually came to be called medicinal candy. Truly, in terms of education and hygiene, there is no other candy as good as the candy sold by this house, and it has now become a famous specialty of Kyoto. Excerpt from the store's HP. 3. Crowdedness on the day - There were no customers before or after me during my visit at around 13:40 on a weekday. 4. Customer service - The service was in accordance with the manual. 5. Purchased items - Ghost Child-Rearing Candy (160g) 500 yen The simple ingredients of water candy and granulated sugar make this candy taste ordinary, but the amber color gives a sense of history to the product. Since I saw many people heading towards Kiyomizu-dera from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station or Gion-Shijo Station on that Sunday, it seems like a good idea to stop by this shop at such times (^▽^;) Thank you for the meal. It is a golden transparent candy. It comes in a big bag. The taste is not boring at all. When asked about the shop's origin, it is a poignant story. It is a candy that reminds of a friend who passed away. It has a sharp and refreshing taste. I found it while walking around the streets of Kyoto. I also found it at a Kyoto souvenir shop near Tokyo Yaesu Exit. I visited the shop near Rokuharamitsuji Temple during the exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum in May 2022. I visited Kyoto city in November after a long time and it was great that the shop was open! The staff was friendly and I mentioned that the simple and not boring candy was great, so I bought it again.

Near Rokuharamitsuji Temple, there is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that has been passed down for over 400 years. Their famous "Yurei Koiku Ame" is priced at 500 yen. I stopped by while visiting Rokuharamitsuji Temple and was able to sample it. It is made with malt sugar and has a taste similar to adult barley sugar candy. Just one piece gives a quite satisfying feeling. If you happen to visit Kyoto, be sure to stop by and try it out.

I bought some delicious bread nearby and took a little walk. I saw a sign that caught my eye, "Ghost Child Raising Candy"?! I didn't know what it was, but I decided to buy it anyway. When I looked it up, I found out that it's a very meaningful candy. The golden candy sparkled and had a simple, nostalgic taste that gently moistened my throat. I took a little detour and found something good. It was a delightful experience.

Minatoya Ghost Child Raising Candy Honpo is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located a 10-12 minute walk from Shimizu Gojo Station. The shop is famous for its simple and rustic Ghost Child Raising Candy, which has been passed down for over 400 years and is said to have inspired the creation of GeGeGe no Kitaro. Despite being a bit of a walk from the station, the shop's location in a Kyoto-like alley makes it a charming spot to visit while sightseeing. I purchased the popular Ghost Child Raising Candy on this visit. Made with malt, the candy has a delicious but not outstanding taste, reminiscent of traditional candies that appeal to a wide range of people. Surprisingly, just one candy was satisfying, and its long-lasting flavor was a plus. If you're looking for a historic confectionery shop during your Kyoto sightseeing, be sure to stop by. Thank you for the meal!

Minatoya Ghost Child Raising Candy Shop is said to be the oldest candy shop in Japan, with a history of over 450 years. It is considered the second oldest shop in Kyoto. The famous candy that connects "life" with the legend of ghost child raising is called "Ghost Child Raising Candy." The shop is located at the intersection of the afterlife and this world known as "Rokudo no Tsuji," and the origin of the name reflects a mother's deep love for her child. It is said that the late Shigeru Mizuki was inspired by the story of the ghost candy to create the manga "GeGeGe no Kitaro." The simple and nostalgic appearance of the shop is charming. The Ghost Child Raising Candy (170g for 500 yen) is made only with malt sugar and sugar, creating a beautiful golden and translucent candy. Its old-fashioned taste is sure to become addictive.

I visited the Rokuharamitsuji Temple, which does not have a parking lot, to see the annual dance of reciting Buddhist prayers at the end of the year. After hearing stories about the temple's history related to the head priest's fortune, I visited this place. During the Edo period, this Rokuharamitsuji Temple used to be a burial ground for burying the dead, and one day the ghost of a mother who had died after giving birth would come out every night to give candy to her child. From this origin story, the candy was created. The shop has been around for about 500 years, originally selling barley and other items, and started selling candy on the side. The candy is called "Ghost Child-Raising Candy." The shop is located in Rokuro-cho (formerly known as Skull Town). It's a candy born out of such history.

☆Mrs. and a casual lunch trip (extra edition)!°[Thinking about Enma-sama in Kyoto, ①]: Today, I was grateful to be able to visit on the special day of July 17th, the annual summer Enma pilgrimage day where you can receive a special stamp, coinciding with my day off.・On the way, there is a shop that was featured in a manga called "Manga Mukashi Banashi."・It is said that the late mother, who could no longer breastfeed, used to come here every night to buy candy for her baby. She would give the candy to the baby as a substitute for breast milk. $ Order!※"Child-rearing candy" 500 yen (tax included)... 3.0: It's a nostalgic taste from 450 years ago! In 1599 (Keicho 5), I think the people back then were also good for having such delicious candy♪・The taste is like a more mild and refined version of a traditional candy. Conclusion: The owner is a kind lady, so it's nice to be able to stop by the shop and even try a sample of the candy.♪ Thank you very much for always liking, saving the shop, and following. If it's okay, I would be happy if you could recommend other shops in the comments section.・Please continue to support us in the future. Thank you very much.
