Staying at a hotel near Jono Station, I visited the familiar "Kara Ju" within Marushoku, which I would describe as "near Jono Station" for those like me who prefer trains. I had some errands to run nearby and ended up stopping by on the way. Unfortunately, the main items I wanted were sold out, so I settled for "Tebar Ju". It's fried chicken cooked in a sweet soy sauce. The sauce has a thick consistency, and looking at the ingredients, I think it might contain honey. Whether it's a hit or miss, only the gods know, but the distinctive flavor was there. And at 179 yen for 2 pieces, it's quite reasonable.

On this day, I casually visited "Karaage no Mise Kato Ju Shigemura Store."
◇Exterior and Interior
Located in Marushoku Shigemura in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City, this karaage shop has a new exterior. The shop is born in Kitakyushu and its main battlefield is supermarkets, so it is quite well-known among the residents of Kitakyushu. The seating is for takeout only.
◇Menu Composition
They offer karaage, chicken wings, croquettes, onigiri, bento boxes, and more. I ordered the following:
- Karaage from Kato Ju (100g for 185 yen) → Tax included, 199 yen. The size is standard, and since they are cut at the factory, they are almost uniform. The price is very cheap, which is unlikely to be found in individual stores. The taste is the basic soy sauce flavor. I believe it was Kyushu soy sauce, with ginger and garlic used, giving it a decent punch. The coating is a bit crispy, but it's fine. In other words, it's the kind of karaage that you would buy when you're struggling with dinner plans and happen to be at a Sanriku store.
◆Strengths
Cheap and flavorful karaage.
◆Customer Service
The service was polite.
◆Conclusion
You can't underestimate the chicken rice. It has a rich flavor yet is delicious. It's perfect for making ochazuke at home. Just some random info. lol. Thank you for the meal.

There is a fried chicken shop inside Marushoku. I bought some as a snack while buying meat because they were on sale. 6 pieces for about 300 yen, so around 50 yen each. I prefer the coating to be a bit thinner. The flavor was soy sauce-based.
