On this day, I had some business in Osaka. I searched for a late lunch spot and decided to visit this restaurant that had caught my attention before. It is located underground down a flight of stairs. It was just before 2 pm on a weekday, but there was a line at the entrance. It's a popular place. However, the turnover seemed fast, and I only had to wait about 10 minutes to get in. The restaurant is small with 7-8 counter seats and 2 large table seats. While waiting in line, I had already decided on the Tianjin fried rice from the menu I saw, and since I was quite hungry that day, I ordered the large portion for ¥1,080. Since I was seated at the counter, I could watch the kitchen as usual. I was impressed by the fact that they made everything from scratch except for the soup, and they made sure to taste everything properly. I noticed that they even made the sauce from scratch. What caught my attention was that the fried rice for the person next to me was prepared separately. This became clear later on. After a while, my order was served. Wow! What a huge portion! Unexpected! However, for some reason, I was confident that I could finish the fried rice even though it was quite a large portion. I wonder why. I started eating, and it was really delicious. The sauce poured over it was not sweet and sour but a Chinese dashi-based sauce, which was made with a wonderful soup. The egg was fluffy and tasty, and I think that's because the seasoning of the sauce was kept light. The fried rice was also intentionally made mild in flavor, and when eaten together with the egg and sauce, it created a wonderful collaboration where none of the flavors were overpowering. Thanks to that, I was able to finish it without getting tired of it. That's why the fried rice was prepared separately! But be careful with the portion size. A regular portion here is like a large portion at other restaurants. So, this one was a special large portion! Probably everything at this restaurant is delicious, right? The sweet and sour pork that the person next to me was eating looked delicious. The ramen made with the same wonderful dashi seemed delicious too. The soup that came with it was probably the same, but even with a light seasoning, it was delicious and flavorful. The menu of this town Chinese restaurant, prepared with care and dedication, was all very appealing. Also, the heartfelt service of the lady in the dining area must be captivating the regular customers. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again. The evaluation criteria are based on a 4.0 scale, and it is an overall evaluation including not only taste but also service. I used to work nearby and visited this nostalgic restaurant often. It is located in the middle of the office district, underground in a building, giving off a somewhat underground vibe. I arrived at 11 am and there was no wait. Inside, there was only one customer, and the kind owner and hostess were just as I remembered. This time, I ordered the Tianjin-style fried rice, which I used to enjoy in the past. Although the curry was delicious, I always preferred the regular fried rice. As I waited for my Tianjin-style fried rice, more salarymen started coming in. It's still a popular spot! The soup arrived first, followed by the fried rice in about 3 minutes. It was just like the old days... or maybe even more generous with the portion size? The aroma of soy sauce and burnt oil tickled my nostrils, making me even hungrier. I couldn't wait any longer! Let's eat! Breaking the egg and digging into the fried rice, the strong soy sauce flavor, the smoothness of the sesame oil, and the rich umami taste all combined to create an addictive taste. The fluffy, well-seasoned egg with green onions added to the deliciousness. The shrimp provided a nice, firm texture. The warriors need a hearty meal like this to keep fighting in the afternoon! It wasn't just nostalgia... this place is really delicious. The soup with egg and green onions was a nice break from the rich fried rice, with a gentle, comforting taste. I finished both the fried rice and the soup in no time! The bill came right after I finished eating. The Tianjin-style fried rice, large portion, was 1000 yen (usually 800 yen). It was so delicious. If you plan to visit, I recommend going after 1 pm when the lunch break for the warriors is over, so you can eat smoothly. Also, the portion size for each dish is no joke, so if you order the La Chasse set with both dishes in regular size, you might get an overwhelming amount of food. Just stick to one dish, or go for the half portion of fried rice (single order not available). Enjoy your meal!

【Location】10-minute walk from Naka-Itabashi Station on the Chuo Line 【Order】Ankake Tenshin fried rice ¥800 Half portion of Mapo Tofu ¥600 【Impressions】 - All dishes had more volume than expected. - Delicious taste that exceeds the cost. - The fried rice during lunchtime is probably popular. - The Mapo Tofu is spicy and has a homely taste.

This is my second visit. The ankake fried rice I had last time was delicious, but this time I ordered the Tianjin curry fried rice. The curry fried rice inside was absolutely delicious. Even with a smaller portion, it was quite filling. It was just before noon on a weekday and there were many office workers having lunch. I recommend going a little early!

I happened to hear about this place from someone and decided to stop by for lunch. It was a Saturday lunchtime and there was a line of about 10 people in front of me. The restaurant is located underground in an office area, so I didn't expect it to be crowded. The interior was a bit old but well-maintained. I ordered the popular menu item, Tianjin curry fried rice. It was incredibly delicious, unlike any Tianjin rice I've had before. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely want to come back to eat here again.

On a weekend night, I was unsure of what to eat but decided to try the recent trend of champon at New Shanghai. The soy sauce-based champon and half-fried rice were delicious. While there are more stylish Chinese restaurants in town, the old-fashioned ones still taste the best. I will definitely stop by occasionally in the future.

I was thinking about what to have for lunch when I saw it on my Instagram timeline. It's worth going, right? Luckily, there was no line when I arrived. By the time I left, there were about 10 people waiting in line, so I got in just in time. This time, I ordered the Tianjin-style ankake yakimeshi, unlike last time. The taste was a well-balanced fried rice, not too strong. Mixing the scrambled eggs with the ankake sauce creates a complete flavor. However, the portion was too much and I was overwhelmed. Anyway, thank you for the meal.

Tianjin Curry Fried Rice ¥800 I came to eat fried rice for the first time in a while! Today, there is only one group of customers ahead of me. It's usually full, but it's empty today. I ordered Tianjin curry fried rice and a small draft beer. The fried rice, piled high on a deep plate, is about 1.5 times the size of other restaurants. The spicy curry flavor with the sweetness of the onions as an accent is delicious! The fluffy Tianjin-style omelette on top is a perfect match. I've only tried fried rice dishes here, but the other menu items were also delicious. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. 6.8

Sakaisuji Honmachi ◇ Chinese cuisine ◇ [1-chome Kawaramachi, Chuo-ku] From the Sakaisuji Kawaramachi 1 signal, head east for 3 blocks, then go south at the intersection. On the left side, you will find the New Shanghai Kawaramachi Main Store. Take the stairs down to enter the restaurant. At 11:30 am, there were already several customers seated at the counter. Menu options include daily lunch special (850 yen), Tianjin fried rice (800 yen), ramen (650 yen), yakisoba (750 yen), stir-fried vegetables (850 yen), eight treasures dish (950 yen), sweet and sour pork (950 yen), and more. I ordered the daily special which was the eight treasures dish with fried shumai. The meal started with a soup that had a hint of ginger, which I enjoyed. The food was served in a bento box within 7 minutes of ordering. It was filled with cabbage, green peppers, carrots, shrimp, wood ear mushrooms, and pork, all covered in a delicious sauce with garlic. It also came with egg custard and fried shumai, making it quite a hearty meal. The portion of rice was a bit too much for me, but I managed to finish it all. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Hello, it's Mark. I really like Chinese food in town. I've worked in China before, but I still prefer the unique Japanese Chinese cuisine. I love dishes like pan-fried dumplings, fried rice, and Tianjin rice. Recently, I saw someone post about this place on Instagram and it caught my attention. It's called New Shanghai. Sometimes I miss lunchtime after finishing work, but this place is open until around 3 pm, which is really helpful. They have a wide variety of Tianjin rice dishes. The flags are waving like crazy! The friendly proprietress greeted me and I ordered the Tianjin-style fried rice with sauce. It arrived soon after. This was a delicious dish even before I took a bite. Eating it felt like going to heaven. Next time, I want to try the Tianjin curry fried rice that everyone recommends.

A small underground restaurant that doesn't look very Chinese, with a typical cafe-like interior. The menu starts with "yakimeshi" instead of fried rice. Not a typical Chinese expression. Ordered the "Tianjin curry yakimeshi" for 850 yen. The omelette had small shrimp in it, was the right thickness and soft, not like an omelette but more like Tianjin style. The curry yakimeshi was moist to the point of being a bit soggy, but the curry flavor was strong with a gentle spiciness. It reminded me of a similar dish I had before. I didn't leave any comments or photos, but it was similar to the "Tianjin curry fried rice" at Ryumon in Kitahama, not too far from here. Ryumon was also an underground restaurant. It was 8 years ago, so I can't compare the taste, but the curry fried rice there was a bit lighter maybe? It was junky but very delicious.

Tianjin Ankake Fried Rice ¥850, Small Draft Beer ¥350 I came back to this restaurant because the Tianjin Curry Fried Rice was delicious last time. The portions are generous so I opted for a small beer. The beer poured into the glass and the landlady saying "Thank you for your hard work" really touched my heart. I ordered the Tianjin Ankake Fried Rice and it arrived promptly. The portion size is good, it would be considered a large portion at other restaurants. I took a bite and the Tianjin-style egg was soft and fluffy, combined with the fried rice and ankake sauce, it was like a drink. What a great combination! The chef's cooking and the landlady's smile make this a wonderful restaurant. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the delicious meal, it was great! 7.2

Located in a small building along the road next to the Higashiyokobori River in Sakaisuji Honmachi, this renowned restaurant exudes a charm that perfectly fits the term "downtown Chinese cuisine." Featured in a recent issue of the Kansai-focused magazine "Osaka Guide," this establishment underwent a renewal last month. Despite its appearance, the interior is clean and cozy, making it a comfortable dining spot. The specialty dish is the Tianjin curry yakimeshi. This dish features curry fried rice wrapped in an egg, which adds a unique sweetness and richness to the spiciness of the curry. The texture is more substantial than fluffy, and it is topped with a fluffy egg omelet cooked in a Chinese wok. The omelet has a semi-soft texture in places and is mixed with green onions, carrots, and peeled shrimp. The perfect balance of flavors ensures that you won't get tired of this hearty fried rice dish, even as you finish it. As it is a popular spot, you may have to share a table or move seats during busy lunch hours, but the staff's polite gesture of apologizing for the inconvenience when you pay your bill leaves you feeling good as you leave the restaurant. This is what a great dining experience is all about. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited New Shanghai at the Kawaramachi main store during a sudden business trip to Osaka. The food was delicious and the service was polite. I had a hard time deciding between Tianjin rice and fried rice, but ended up choosing fried rice. You can't tell from the picture though. Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was lively with salarymen, and I could feel that it was a popular place.

On Thursday at 12:00, I went to "New Shanghai" in Sakaisuji-Honmachi. When I went downstairs, there were 3 people waiting. As soon as I lined up, 4 people lined up behind me. After 5 minutes, we were seated inside the restaurant. I ordered the "Tianjin Ankake Yakimeshi (850 yen)". It arrived after 12 minutes. I took a bite. It was delicious. The thick and flavorful sauce had a good balance with the fried rice, thanks to the Chinese broth. Sometimes, Tianjin fried rice can be too spicy if the sauce is too strong, but here, the balance was perfect. The portion was generous, and I was quite full. Next time, I will try the popular "Tianjin Curry Yakimeshi". Thank you for the meal.

This is the No. 1 fried rice. I used to dislike Tianjin rice, but after trying the Tianjin Ankake Chahan here, my perspective changed. It is incredibly delicious with the perfect ankake sauce. The portion size is also very satisfying. Whenever my friends visit Osaka, I always take them here. My personal favorite is the Tianjin Ankake Chahan, but the Gomoku Yakisoba is also amazing. They are the top choices. The Tianjin Curry Yakimeshi is also delicious, of course.

I stopped by because I was nearby for work. It was almost noon and the restaurant was already full with a 5-person waitlist. After about a 10-minute wait, I finally got a seat. The Ankake Tenshin Fried Rice seemed to be popular, but I chose the Curry Tenshin Fried Rice. When it arrived, I was surprised by the size - it was like a large portion. I wonder what would happen if I had chosen the extra-large size? The curry fried rice was nestled in fluffy eggs with a slightly spicy flavor. The taste was strong and the eggs didn't overpower it. It was a taste I could imagine, but surprisingly delicious, and I managed to finish it. At 850 yen, it's more cost-effective than the 900 yen ramen nearby. The staff were friendly and energetic, which added to the overall positive experience. I hope this local Chinese restaurant continues to do well. Thank you for the meal.

#New Shanghai Kawaramachi Main Store#I tried the Five-Ingredient Yakisoba Tianjin Curry Yakimeshi this time, and it was a tough decision on what to order (・・*pondering)。。oO I decided to challenge something new this time ( •̀ •́ )୨⚑︎゛ On top, there was a fluffy scrambled egg sitting gracefully (*´艸`*)♡ With ingredients like shrimp, wood ear mushrooms, onions, carrots, bean sprouts, pork, etc... the dish was packed with a variety of ingredients✨Moist and juicy (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑ The medium-thick noodles were chewy. The flavor was not too strong with oyster sauce seasoning, and it mixed well with the ingredients, creating a perfect balance. In this day and age, it's really appreciated to get such a variety of ingredients, volume, and quality for just over 1000 yen. Hooray for authentic Chinese cuisine in the city!ヽ(´▽`)/ Every menu item is so appealing that I'm already looking forward to what I'll try next (っ ॑ω ॑c) Excited to see what's next! While wandering around in search of lunch, I was drawn into a place with a flashy neon sign that seemed like it used to be a snack bar. After doing some research, I decided to try the Tianjin curry fried rice, which was recommended, along with a half order of dumplings. The combination of Tianjin, curry, and fried rice is a classic in Chinese town cuisine. The flavors did not disappoint. I especially enjoyed the type of dumpling skin they used. If I come back again, I would like to try the noodles next time.
