I have worked part-time near this area before. An old lady there told me about some delicious dessert shops in the area, and Umeen on Kawaramachi Street was one of them. They offer various menu items centered around mitarashi dango. The old lady, who has since passed away, was likely born in the Taisho era and highly recommended Umeen. I visited when there was no line, which was lucky. The main Umeen store on Kawaramachi Street has a nice old-fashioned atmosphere but is cramped. It's great that they have another location here, but it's usually crowded. The staff are very friendly, but seem quite busy and understaffed. I ordered a set of mitarashi dango and anmitsu. You can also add a drink (such as matcha) but it's already quite filling without it. The texture of the mitarashi dango is great, with the sauce perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. I've been to the main store before, but it's been about 10 years. I don't think there's much difference between the two. The anmitsu contains various toppings like chestnuts and warabi mochi. With this portion size, one dish might have been enough. The taste is spot on.

This is my third visit. There is always a line, but the turnover is fast so you can quickly find a seat. The set with mitarashi dango is popular, and I always end up ordering it. The set comes with 5 mitarashi dango, so it's very satisfying in terms of volume.

I wanted to try a standard shaved ice rather than the trendy variations, so I searched and found out that the well-known Umeen has a branch in Sanjo. On a hot afternoon, there were about 10 people in line, but the store was spacious, so the wait was about 15 minutes. The floor was spacious, with tables comfortably spaced out, and the air conditioning was working well, making it a comfortable environment. I think I like this place the most compared to the Kawaramachi and Kiyomizu branches. I ordered the Uji Milk with Shiratama and Kinako. The fluffy ice, sweet and gentle red beans, and the perfect amount of matcha syrup made it delicious. Even when feeling full, I couldn't help but finish it all quickly. It seems like the line moves faster now, so I would like to visit again easily. Thank you for the meal!

I went in the early evening on a weekday, but the place was full so I waited in line for a bit. I ordered a matcha milk shaved ice with white mochi topping. It was just the right amount of sweetness, and they even gave me extra syrup when I felt the flavor was a bit light. It was really delicious.

I visited in the late summer evening. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was calm, and it seemed like there were seats available on the second floor as well. They offered flavors such as Uji, Mizore, and Milk. I ordered the Uji Kin Toki. I was also curious about the Shiratama topping, but... They also provided extra syrup (matcha syrup) in case the flavor became too weak. The combination of red bean paste and matcha ice was excellent. I enjoyed it. While I was eating, a line started forming outside, so it seems to be a popular place.

Due to the extreme heat, I felt like having some anmitsu and visited the restaurant. The second floor where I was seated had poor air conditioning and was very hot. I asked the staff to lower the temperature, but it was not improved. The toilet had an open window, letting in direct heat from the outdoor unit, making it unbearably hot. The anmitsu was served at room temperature, which, combined with the high room temperature, made it almost inedible. The mitarashi dango lacked flavor and umami, with the sweetness being too overpowering and unbalanced. The drink, soy milk black sugar ice cream, was also served lukewarm and overly sweet, making it hard to drink. Since I visited seeking relief from the scorching heat, I believe more consideration should be given to the room temperature and the temperature of the items served.

The menu includes mitarashi dango and black honey warabi mochi with a drink for around 1450 yen. The dishes are not too sweet and have a refreshing taste. The interior of the building has a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the Taisho and early Showa periods, creating a relaxing ambiance. There is often a wait, so be prepared to line up when visiting.

I am completely satisfied with the intensity of the matcha flavor. The agar agar is also delicious. However, the mitarashi was not quite as I had imagined, it was tasty but not enough to make me want more. Maybe it needed more grilling? I was expecting a crispy texture, but it felt like it was just warmed up, which was disappointing. It's scorching hot out, so maybe it can't be helped? I might give it another try in the winter.

This cafe is famous for its mitarashi dango. There are several branches, but this one is convenient as it is located in a shopping street and the building has a charming atmosphere. It is recommended to be prepared for a line during the day. We visited before 6pm on a weekday and there was a full house with one group waiting outside. We were able to enter after about 10 minutes. I often pass by this shop, and it is common to see long lines. It is easier to get in during the evening. [What we ate] Uji Kanemitsu Shiratama with Matcha Warabi Mochi ¥1300 Mitarashi Dango ¥480 Drink Set ¥480 I forgot to take a photo of the mitarashi dango (^_^;) It had a mild sweetness and a refreshing taste. Personally, I prefer it a bit more sticky and sweeter. The shaved ice had a rich topping selection and was a delightful treat! If asked whether I would line up to eat here again, I would say sorry, but no. However, I would like to visit again if it's not crowded, as it has a nice atmosphere and is conveniently located. Thank you for the meal.

Kyoto's Umeen in the summer sky, Uji Kaneshi is hot, when you look up, there is a plum garden. Busy and quiet, this year too, we will have shaved ice. Uji Kaneshi with white balls on top, this size feels good. A mountain of shaved ice is not good for the body to cool down. #Umeen Sanjo Teramachi store #Uji Kaneshi with white balls on top #Kyoto #shaved ice

I used it for a break after lunch. It's usually crowded when I pass by, but today it was empty so I decided to go in. I ordered a set of Japanese sweets (I forgot the name). It included things like mitarashi dango, dorayaki-like treats, two pieces of warabi mochi, and candied chestnuts. Everything was delicious! And because the store was quiet, I could eat calmly. Especially the mitarashi dango... so delicious! The grilled flavor is fragrant. It goes well with the sweet sauce. I want to use it again!

I used it for lunch with a friend. This shop is right next to Kyoto's Kani Douraku. When it comes to Kyoto's Mitarashi dango, this is the shape. There are many green tea-flavored drinks, and you can strongly feel that you have come to Kyoto. The freshly made warm dango is so delicious that you eat it without even talking, and when your sweetened mouth wants water, they pour hojicha for you to drink, completing the perpetual motion machine.

Visited a famous mitarashi dango shop in Kyoto! There were many delightful menu options to choose from. I was torn between the Mitarashi Dango and Mitsu Bean Set for ¥1400. I couldn't resist the Mitarashi Dango, and I paired it with a Matcha Soy Milk Latte. The dango was small and cute, with a delicious not-too-sweet filling. The grilled dango paired perfectly with the mildly sweet filling. Before I knew it, the dango was gone. The Mitsu Bean set was simple, with agar jelly, shiratama mochi, candied chestnuts, and bracken starch dumplings. The shiratama mochi was especially delicious. It's clear that this shop specializes in dango, and it's a treat worth savoring slowly, even though it's so tasty that it disappears quickly. Thank you for the delicious meal!

☆A casual lunch trip with the wife! [Kyoto City, Sanjo Kawaramachi]‼︎⇒ Other than Kyoto Isetan, this is the only place where you can purchase unique items. There is no parking lot, but there are coin parking lots nearby, so how about parking at a parking lot near Keihan Sanjo and taking a leisurely walk around? $ Order! *"Mitara Butter Sand (5 pieces)" 1350 yen (tax included)… 3.5: A mix of mitarashi sauce and butter cream on cookies. Delicious, but the taste is within the range of what you can imagine. Yeah, pretty much as expected. Conclusion: It's a bit pricey, so I wish it had a stronger impact. If you don't mind the price and enjoy the taste, you might want to come back for more. ♪ I always appreciate your "likes," "saving the shop," and "follows." Your comments and questions would make me very happy♪ Thank you all for your continued support.

I visited this old building and inside, classical violin music was playing. I ordered the "mitarashi dango" and it was served in about 10 minutes. The dango had a unique cylindrical shape and a chewy texture, which paired well with the sweet and salty mitarashi sauce.

Umeen is a place I had never been to before, unlike the nearby stores. I tried their mitarashi dango and matcha. The matcha came with a side of warabi mochi. The storefront and interior have a charming Kyoto vibe. The mitarashi dango was crispy and easy to eat, making it a great snack. I feel reassured eating here as I have been familiar with their food for a long time.

A shop located about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line "Kyoto City Hall" station. After entering the shop and placing an order, the Mitarashi Dango appears in about 15 minutes! The cylindrical dumplings are visually appealing with a beautiful appearance. Although they are small in size, they have a firm elasticity, a fragrant grilled texture, and a well-balanced sweet and savory sauce, providing a satisfying and elegant taste! The chilled Uji Shiratama Zenzai also has a perfect balance of matcha flavor and red bean, not too sweet and delicious until the end. It is recommended for a break after shopping at Sanjo Street Arcade.

I got mitarashi dango to go. I wanted to eat it hot on the spot, but I had plans so I couldn't eat it right away. The elegant and naturally sweet sauce paired perfectly with the slightly charred aroma of the dango, making it delicious. I visited on a weekday for lunch and there was no line, so I was able to purchase smoothly. I'm curious about their ozenzai, so I plan to eat in the store next time!

■Established for about 90 years, "Umeen" is a cafe where you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets such as Mitarashi dango and kakigori. I visited to try their summer limited edition kakigori topped with matcha pudding!
■Order:
- Rich Matcha Pudding with Uji Kin Toki Shiratama: 1,300 yen (tax included)
The matcha pudding looked very rich and it is made with Uji Tawara matcha. It has a bouncy texture and a strong matcha flavor with minimal sweetness. You can also add extra matcha sauce to enhance the matcha experience, making it a must-try for matcha lovers!
■Other Menu Items:
- Food: Kakigori, Mitarashi dango, etc.
- Drinks: Matcha soy milk, coffee, etc.
■Seating:
There are table seats and counter seats available in a relaxed atmosphere with spacious sofa-type seats for a comfortable dining experience.

A popular shop located at the corner of Sanjo Teramachi Street. Feeling hot and stuffy, I wandered around the stylish Sanjo Street and decided to cool down with some ice. Luckily, there was no line, so I was able to enter right away. I ordered the "Uji Milk" shaved ice for 930 yen, which was simple and refreshing. Even in this season, there were many customers taking out the popular mitarashi dango. The first floor was bustling, so if you prefer a quiet atmosphere, I recommend the second floor, although it may depend on timing whether you will be guided there or not.

I had been curious about the retro building for a while, but it was always crowded so I had given up on it. However, it was very hot outside and the ice flag was waving, so I thought I could go in! There seemed to be only one person who could provide customer service. The person seemed efficient, but the male staff in particular seemed unable to respond to requests. He would ignore you if you made eye contact. Then, a young female employee who had just entered seemed unable to move. I ordered the Uji milk with Uji topping, but later ordered Uji Kinako milk, which was a misunderstanding on my part. I added the Kinako milk (which was a large portion) to the Uji milk that was already there, but it didn't quite make sense to me. It was a good experience, but I'm sorry to say that I probably won't come back here. I had eaten Mitarashi dango the day before and turned it into ice because it was hot (even though there were others present, I still made a mistake). Maybe I'll come here to eat Mitarashi dango next time. It was a disappointing experience in Kyoto.
