For a pre-winery tour meal in Yoichi, we visited at noon on a Sunday. Despite being fully booked, we managed to get a seat. We ordered the Uni Don for 4,950 yen and the Squid and Uni Don for 3,700 yen. The Murasaki Uni was light and delicious, with a sweet taste. The vinegared rice was a bit distracting, but overall, it was great value for money and highly recommended.

Pork cutlet curry for 1,100 yen (tax included) comes with daikon salad with sesame dressing, a small serving of Fukujinzuke, and miso soup. Self-service for drinks is available. The taste is average for the price, the curry roux seems instant-like, and the cutlet is a bit thin. The cost performance is not great. The staff members provide good service.

Seafood donburi Colorful Bowl is a seafood bowl with a striking impact, limited to 5 servings per day. It includes a generous serving of 6 types of seafood, created by a sushi chef owner. It features seasonal ingredients such as tuna, salmon, boiled octopus, cucumber, and egg, all cut into cubes and piled high. Finally, a large button shrimp is placed on top, accompanied by Hokkaido-produced ikura. The price is quite reasonable for a tourist spot in Hokkaido, especially recommended after visiting the Nikka Whisky Distillery in Yoichi, as it is nearby.

I visited this restaurant for lunch after a few years (around 4 years). A few years ago, you could order most set menus for under 1,000 yen at this place. That's why I used to rate it highly in terms of cost performance. However, when I visited this time, I saw that apart from the kids' set, everything was over 1,000 yen... It's just the way things are changing, but I can't really rate it for cost performance anymore. So, if I can't rate it for cost performance, it comes down to the taste... Here is the review:
- Sashimi Rice Set ★★★
This set includes a sashimi rice bowl and zaru soba. The portion size is normal. The sashimi rice bowl consists of tamagoyaki, crab meat, flying fish roe, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, flounder (probably), and one more item (I forgot). It would be great if the rice was more hidden underneath the sashimi, but well, that's a bit difficult to achieve. The taste is average. The freshness of the sashimi is just average. The zaru soba is more like half portions. I think they use dried noodles for this. The dipping sauce seems to be store-bought and the taste is nothing special. It's not much different from something you could eat at home. The taste is average. A few years ago, you could eat this for under 1,000 yen. Using dried noodles and charging 1,300 yen now, it's a bit expensive, I thought.

Seafood bowl set @ Takeya
For lunch, we ate at "Takeya" next to Fujiya. There were several groups lined up before the opening. It seems to be quite popular, right? We were able to enter as soon as they opened. I had the "seafood bowl." It was my first time trying seafood in Hokkaido. It was delicious. Now, shall we head to Otaru?

I wanted to eat sea urchin, so I went to Yoichi. Two weeks ago when I came, there was no line at the nearby Kakiyama Shoten, but this time there was a line extending outside, probably because it was a three-day weekend. The restaurant my family wanted to go to had a sign saying reservations only for today. Since it was close by and almost opening time, I decided to try my luck. It was about 2 minutes before opening time, but there were already people inside. We managed to snag the last table. Even though they said they open at 11:30, it was actually 11:00? I finally got to enjoy a sea urchin bowl, while my family had a sea urchin and salmon roe bowl, and a colorful bowl of local specialties with a flounder fry set meal. The sea urchin was big, sweet, and delicious! A luxurious treat once a year! The restaurant's waitress, perhaps because there were customers waiting in line, was quick to clear the dishes as soon as we finished eating. It's nice in a way, but some people might find it annoying. I laughed when I said, "Come on, dad, you can do it!" as my husband was still eating his set meal while the rest of us finished our bowl dishes.

After visiting the Nikka Whisky distillery, we arrived at the restaurant just in time for opening. There was already a line forming before opening, and we had to wait for the next group as the restaurant was full. It seems to be quite popular. We ordered the special seafood bowl for 1500 yen, as recommended by Jalan. The bowl was a bit small, especially for men. The abalone was fresh and slightly wiggling, which was interesting. The other toppings were also delicious. You can add a small bowl of salmon roe for 300 yen. They also offer Chinese dishes like fried food and shrimp chili, so even if you're not a fan of seafood, there are other options available.

My mother wanted to go to this restaurant after seeing it in a magazine and on TV, so I went there around noon on a weekday. Unfortunately, the seafood bowl she wanted was sold out within 15 minutes of opening. However, since we came all the way from Sapporo, we decided to try the seafood bowl anyway! There were various types of seafood bowls to choose from, and I ordered the Four-Color Bowl for ¥2,310. It came with thickly sliced salmon, plenty of scallops, sea urchin, and salmon roe, along with miso soup. The amount of rice felt a little lacking compared to the generous amount of toppings, but overall, it was delicious. It was a long time since I had eaten a seafood bowl, and I enjoyed it!

This time, I had a special seafood bowl limited to 15 servings a day. They opened at 11:30 am and I arrived at 11 am. There was already a line of about 30 people, including regular customers maybe? I quickly entered the restaurant and ordered before the staff even brought water. Phew, made it in time! It's limited to 15 servings after all. Plus, if you order a meal, you can also get a serving of soba noodles for an extra 300 yen, so of course I ordered that too. The seafood bowl had fresh abalone, crab claws, tuna, fatty tuna, salmon roe, shrimp, octopus, salmon, yellowtail, and maybe whitefish? Seriously, all the ingredients were delicious and I was extremely satisfied. The soba noodles were also tasty and the dipping sauce was wonderful. The cost performance is great, so I was in a really good mood and enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the feast. I will definitely come again!

On the second day of my business trip to Hokkaido, I had some free time in the morning so I decided to explore the Shakotan Peninsula by rental car. The breathtaking view at the westernmost point of Kamui Cape was truly impressive, with the majestic and mysteriously beautiful blue sea typical of Hokkaido. On my way to work in the afternoon, I decided to have lunch at "Takeya" restaurant. It is located right off the JR Hakodate Main Line Yoichi Station, along the Japan Sea Oiwake Soran Line, across from the Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery. The restaurant is quite spacious, with table and booth seating available. Despite it being a bit early, the place was bustling with customers, including people in work clothes and families, almost filling up the restaurant. I found a table available and placed my order. The lunch menu offered reasonably priced rice bowl and soba sets, but since I was in Yoichi, I opted for a seafood rice bowl called "Yoichi Irodori Don." It arrived in about 7-8 minutes. The rice bowl was topped with sweet shrimp, squid, and salmon roe, with fresh sea urchin placed on a large shiso leaf in the center. It was nice to see that it only included carefully selected local seafood, without the usual sashimi. I dug in right away. The highlight was definitely the sea urchin! Being from the authentic Shakotan Peninsula, it had a distinct sweetness and depth of flavor. The salmon roe was pleasantly popping, the sweet shrimp had a slightly sticky texture, and the squid was pleasantly chewy – all very fresh. The rice was seasoned with vinegar. While it may not be the best I've ever had, I found the satisfaction level of this rice bowl lunch to be quite high. Unfortunately, the Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery tour was closed due to the pandemic. As a single malt fan, I'll have to find another opportunity to come back to Yoichi. I would definitely like to visit again when I do. The bill came out to 2,420 yen. Thank you for the meal!

This year's sea urchin bowl tour. The first stop, Kakizaki Shoten, was abandoned due to the long line. This place also had a line, but we managed to get in. We ordered sea urchin bowl, crab and salmon roe bowl, three-color bowl, and also the special bowl from Jalan! The rice is vinegared rice. The first sea urchin bowl of the year...still delicious. But this is white sea urchin. Compared to red sea urchin, it's more light. Still satisfying. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to go to Shakotan, but due to circumstances, I couldn't make it there. Instead, I want to eat Uni-don in Otaru or Yoichi! For those who are looking for Uni-don or other menu options, this place is recommended. The menu includes Uni-ikura don for 2,600 yen and Salmon Uni-Hotate don for 1,900 yen. In Yoichi, we usually go to the same restaurant every year, but it's always crowded. So, we decided to try a different restaurant this time. It was busy around lunchtime at 1 pm, but the 20-30 minute wait felt relatively short as we spent it at the roadside station in front. The parking lot is a bit small, so we parked at the roadside station. They have taken measures for infection prevention, and private rooms were available, which we were grateful for. We found a great restaurant ❤︎

I had some business in Yoichi, but it got cancelled so I finished earlier than expected. Since I was already in Yoichi, I decided to have lunch before heading home. The restaurant was located next to Peko-chan. I almost missed it because it was hidden behind Peko-chan when coming from Yoichi Station. The building had a mature look and the entrance had hand sanitizer. It was quite crowded. Even though I was dining alone, I was seated at a table for six. I looked through the menu and saw that they recommended rice bowls, but I didn't feel like having that. The curry cutlet caught my attention, so I ordered that. It was the cheapest item on the menu, along with the tempura set. I don't mind assertive women, but the price was a bit high for what I got. The portion and taste were average. If the curry had some unique touch to it, it would have been better. If the cutlet had more presence, it would have been better too. Maybe because it was the cheapest item, they didn't put much effort into it. Overall, it was okay.

A valuable restaurant that saved me from becoming a lunch refugee during the Bullet Train Yubari Tour (laughs). The Uni Donburi was discounted because it was the last one, and it seems like they have other enjoyable seafood options as well. If I have the chance to come back, I would like to try other dishes too.

It had been a while since I visited Takeya-san's restaurant. It was the weekend, but there were only about 4 groups of customers. It was a hot day and the air conditioning wasn't working well, so I was sweating just sitting there. The set meal menu had many appealing options, making it hard to decide. The food was served promptly and tasted delicious!

This is our second visit to this restaurant for a family of three for a midsummer lunch. To be honest, it's a really great restaurant. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, the service is good, and the only downside is the long wait for the food to be served. But overall, it's a wonderful restaurant compared to other famous or specialized restaurants nearby.

I visited a town in Yoichi and stopped by for lunch. I was intrigued by the limited quantity Red Gurnard Fry set on the menu, so I ordered it. Both the sashimi and fry were delicious! The set also came with side dishes and chawanmushi, so I was very satisfied with the portion size.

I saw a feature on a seafood bowl in a magazine on TV and couldn't forget about it. I called ahead and was told that people start lining up about 50 minutes before the weekend. So, I arrived an hour early and waited in the car. Ten minutes later, I saw the next customers and hurried to the front of the line. Despite it being mid-October and snow being reported in various places that day, there was a long line forming in the rain 30 minutes before opening. We entered the restaurant on time, where COVID-19 measures were in place. I ordered the seafood bowl and added soba noodles for an extra 300 yen, as well as a hot water barley drink for the driver. The seafood bowl arrived in 10 minutes, with a luxurious lineup including whole abalone, shrimp, crab claws, salmon, octopus, white fish, tuna, and ikura. The large pieces of abalone were particularly delicious. The meal was satisfying, and the chawanmushi was a nice touch. Overall, it was a great value for money, with good service. The only downside was the rice, but it was still acceptable. Despite the one-hour wait, I was very happy with the experience. I hope to come across similar experiences in the future.
