I used the JR One-Day Walk Ticket for the first time in a while and went on a solo trip to Furano♡ to replenish my iron levels. It was the second day of a 4-day holiday, just past 11 am. There were two customers before me and two customers after me. Since I had to hurry to catch the next train in an hour, I had researched in advance and chosen a nearby restaurant and decided what to order. As soon as they brought me water, I placed my order right away. Furano White Wine (glass) 361 yen Furano Om Curry 1000 yen The white wine came in a glass that looked like cut glass. It was a refreshing white wine, and I was happy that it was reasonably priced, probably because it was a local wine. The set included two round meatball croquettes made with pork from Kamifurano and wine cheddar cheese, and a slice of watermelon. These croquettes were incredibly delicious! They also included "Furano Milk," which is pasteurized at a low temperature. It was delicious and refreshing. I also got my calcium intake. The local gourmet dish "Furano Om Curry" was a curry sea with an island of omurice topped with bacon. The red of the carrots and the green of the green peppers dotted the dish beautifully. The saffron rice was cooked in soup. The curry had a mild spiciness, which was perfect for me as I didn't have much time to eat. Duration of stay: 30 minutes Amount paid: 1497 yen This was all I ate on this trip, and I only saw the flowers from the train window. The main highlight was the train journey. I thoroughly enjoyed my solo trip on the JR train while checking the timetable.φ(..)Memo One-Day Walk Ticket: 2540 yen This ticket allows you to ride all day in the unreserved seats of regular trains on the following routes: Hakodate Main Line: Oshamambe - Otaru - Sapporo - Iwamizawa - Takikawa Furano Line: Biei - Furano Nemuro Main Line: Takikawa - Furano - Niikappu This trip was as follows: (Departure) Departure from Sapporo at 7:00 → Arrival in Takikawa at 8:36 Takikawa departure at 9:42 → Arrival in Furano at 10:48 During the one-hour wait in Takikawa, I was planning to visit "Sobakko," but to my surprise, it was closed only during this holiday period. I couldn't find any other open places, so I read a book in the station waiting room. Upon arrival in Furano, I went straight to "Yamadori" and had the Furano Om Curry. Then, I returned to the station and secured reserved seats for the Norokko train round trip. The reservation fee was 530 yen one way, and the boarding fee was okay with the One-Day Walk Ticket. Norokko 2: Departure from Furano at 12:02 → Arrival in Biei at 12:50 Norokko 3: Departure from Biei at 13:09 → Arrival in Furano at 13:57 For the outbound trip, I secured seats facing each other by the window, and for the return trip, I got a table seat. Near the "Lavender Station" in Furano, I saw a long line of cars waiting in the parking lot! During the two-hour wait for the train in Furano, I wandered around the Furano Marche. The "Furano Lavender Express" was resting at Furano Station (;゚Д゚) I was delighted to see that. (Return) Departure from Furano at 15:52 → Arrival in Takikawa at 16:57 Departure at 17:15 → Arrival in Iwamizawa at 17:54 Departure at 18:05 → Arrival in Sapporo at 18:47 A 12-hour train journey.

After enjoying the lavender at Farm Tomita, head to try the local gourmet dish from Furano, "Omukare"! But before that, make sure to buy the famous Jundog. The shop was surprisingly crowded. Among the various Omukare restaurants in Furano, the most famous one is Yui-Ga-Dokuson. I wanted to try their manly Omukare with a hefty sausage on top, but since I only have one stomach, I stuck to my original plan. I input this shop into the car navigation system. Kunen Kobo Yamadori: The parking lot is shared with a yakiniku restaurant at the back. You have to go through a narrow alley to reach the entrance. The small and bright interior is mostly filled with customers enjoying Omukare. - Furano Omukare (with Furano milk) ¥1080: In contrast to Yui-Ga-Dokuson, this one has a gentle feminine touch with a flag standing tall. The fluffy egg with a slightly sweet spiced roux is delicious. The bacon topping and croquette side dish are also tasty. - Sausage and Vegetable Soup Curry ¥855: Colorful vegetables make the presentation visually appealing. When you dip the rice in the soup and eat it, you'll experience a spicy and flavorful taste with a mild level of spiciness. A couple who arrived before us were taking pictures of their Omukare with a DSLR camera. I wonder what they will use the photos for. I remember the angles they took, so if they end up on a food blog, I'll think, "Oh, those people from that time." [For more details, check out the blog for a more immersive experience]

Eating a parfait outside is refreshing with the breeze! The fresh strawberry parfait at Lohand is also popular.

In July 2018, I visited a local gourmet dish in Furano City called "Furano Om Curry." I had tried it once before at the New Furano Prince Hotel, and this was my second time. To be called Furano Om Curry, there are certain rules to follow, such as using ingredients from Furano and serving it with Furano milk. Currently, there are 11 participating restaurants, although in a review I wrote seven years ago about the New Furano Prince Hotel, I mentioned 14 restaurants, so it seems that the number has decreased. In fact, the official website also announced the withdrawal of a new participating restaurant due to circumstances, so the excitement may not be as high as before. In my personal opinion, the annual fee of 50,000 yen imposed on participating restaurants may be a burden for small eateries, and the restrictions on pricing may not offer much benefit in being called "Furano Om Curry." Now, at "Yamadori," they also offer smoked food products along with their restaurant, as indicated on their sign. Right next to it is a restaurant called "Charcoal Grilled Meat Yamadori," which is a barbecue restaurant, so one must be careful not to confuse the two. The menu is not extensive, mainly focusing on curry dishes, a few other meal options, and some cafe items, with alcohol also available to accompany their homemade sausages. This time, I went straight for the Furano Om Curry, but was surprised to find that there were two types of curry sauce available - regular and white. I opted for the regular sauce and also ordered a coffee. The Furano Om Curry comes with Furano milk and another dish featuring Furano-sourced ingredients, which at Yamadori is a meatball-like menchi-katsu. The curry was decent, but the menchi-katsu was the highlight. It had a rich flavor and a firm texture, making it a great snack to enjoy with beer. The curry itself had turmeric rice at the bottom, topped with bacon, paprika, and bell peppers. The sauce was plain, without any additional ingredients, and while it wasn't very spicy, it had a good flavor. However, this time, the side dish overshadowed the main dish a bit. If I have the chance, I would like to try their homemade sausages next time.

Today's omurice curry journey takes us to Kuen Kobo Yamadori! There is a yakiniku restaurant called Yamadori in the back. Please use their parking lot. Let's review the Furano omurice curry: 1. Use Furano-grown rice and put effort into the rice preparation 2. Use primarily Furano eggs and make the omurice the centerpiece 3. Use Furano butter or wine 4. Pay attention to using Furano-grown vegetables, meat, pickles, etc. 5. Include a specialty menu item using Furano-grown ingredients and serve Furano milk on the side 6. Keep the price under 1000 yen without tax. I had been to the yakiniku restaurant before, but not this one. I thought there was no parking lot, but it seems you can use the one at the back yakiniku Yamadori. This place is like a sibling store with the yakiniku restaurant... or more like a brother-sister store, depending on who is actively running it, either the brother or sister. When we entered around 12:30, there were only two people inside. It's winter, so it's a bit quiet, which is expected. The seating is for less than 20 people. The interior of the restaurant has a bright atmosphere with white chairs. I ordered the Furano omurice curry! And they asked, "Which one?" I was surprised to learn that they have black and white curry roux! It's the first time for me! So, I ordered the regular black one. The colorful omurice curry was served after a while, with vibrant vegetables lined up, making it the cutest one I've seen so far. I also ordered the Upper Furano pork meat croquette as a side dish. It's not in the picture, but there was Lily root pickles! Unfortunately, they were out of milk, so I had carrot juice instead. I took a bite of the curry. It has a rich umami and depth, with a good balance of spices. The roux has a slight acidity in the aftertaste, which adds to the complexity. It's not spicy but rather on the sweeter side, so it might not be satisfying for those who prefer spicy curry. They seem to add white wine to the rice. I didn't notice much difference (laughs), but eating the roux and omelette rice together creates a solid umami flavor that is very delicious. Now, onto the highlight - the bacon and croquette. Expectations were high since they are prepared by a meat shop. First, the croquette! There were two round croquettes with a tomato-based sauce on top. This was also delicious! The meat was tasty, and the flavor was well-balanced! It tastes refreshing when eaten with the sauce, but it's also very tasty on its own. They seem to use Upper Furano pork for this. I wish they would sell these as side dishes. And the bacon on top of the omurice curry... When you bite into the crispy bacon, the fat melts in your mouth, releasing the rich umami and smoky aroma. It was amazing, bacon! Honestly, this bacon alone is worth a visit. As much as I thought I had to go twice to try the white curry, I now want to go back as many times as possible. Next time, I'll challenge the white curry! I also want to try their lunch menu! So, it seems like I might get hooked on this place in the future.

Hmm, during my days off, I often end up doing things with my wife, so naturally, our meals are heavily influenced by her preferences. On our way back from visiting a grave, we stopped by Furano as a family for lunch. My wife really wanted to try the Furano Omurice! So, we decided to go to the same place we had visited before. I was curious to try the Furano Omurice from other restaurants as well, but it was my wife's strong preference! The interior of the restaurant had a clean and white atmosphere. The exterior also had a cute vibe, so my wife kept saying "It's so cute!" repeatedly. As expected, there was only one option for the Furano Omurice here, so it was just my wife and me. The kids ordered soup curry. The sauce for the Furano Omurice at this restaurant was very fruity and sweet. As someone who likes spicy and bold curry, I found it a bit lacking. On the other hand, it was exactly what my wife was looking for. She exclaimed loudly, "What is this, it's delicious!" (Embarrassing, please stop!). The bacon and meatballs in the curry were both claiming, "We are all about the meat!" You wouldn't expect that from a curry, but come to think of it, there was a sign saying "Kunsei Kobo" on the banner...? Huh? Wasn't that super delicious yakiniku restaurant I visited before behind this place...? What was the name of that restaurant? Oh, it was "Yamadori"! It must be delicious. I wonder if you can eat curry at a yakiniku restaurant? These thoughts crossed my mind as I finished my meal. Thank you for the meal!

Kunsei Koubou YAMADORI is located near Furano Station. I arrived at the shop around 12:30 on Saturday, and although there were no people waiting, the place was almost full! They also sell sausages, but I was there for the Furano Omurice. I ordered the set which came with meatball croquette, tomato, lettuce, and greens. The meatball croquette was delicious and freshly fried, perfect for beer lovers. The tomato was sweet and tasty. The Omurice had curry on the outside with a cute bacon flag on top. However, the taste was just average. The curry was okay, nothing special. The portion size is good for women, but men might find it a bit small. I wish there were more vegetables in it. The bacon was delicious though. I would like to try their sausages next time. The set also came with a small bottle of milk, which was delicious as expected from Hokkaido milk. The meatball croquette set with milk was 1,000 yen, which I think is a decent value. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I drove from Asahikawa to Tomamu by rental car. The weather was not clear due to the typhoon, and as I passed through Furano, I found several restaurants offering Furano's specialty, omurice curry. I decided to try one of these restaurants. The parking lot was shared with a sister yakiniku restaurant, and I entered through the back. The interior was clean and white, with a focus on sausages as they called themselves "Kunsei Workshop." I ordered the omurice curry, sausage, and vegetable soup curry set. I also had a non-alcoholic beer to go with it. The omurice curry was served with a side of meatballs, which were delicious. The omurice curry itself was a fusion of curry and omelette, but it was just okay, not outstanding. The soup curry, on the other hand, was really tasty. The sausages were chorizo and regular, and the fried vegetables were sweet and delicious. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and I also visited the nearby "From the North Country" museum. I paid my respects to the late Sota (Koichi Iwaki) and ended the meal with a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5. Thank you for the meal.

In the latest guidebook, it seems that the new local specialty called "Furano Om Curry" is gaining popularity in Furano Station. There are pamphlets from participating stores at Furano Station, with 13 stores offering Furano Om Curry from Furano Station to the New Furano Prince area. Furano Om Curry is a local curry dish that combines the national dish curry with omurice, using local ingredients and a unique serving style. The rules for Furano Om Curry include using Furano-produced rice, eggs, cheese (butter), and other ingredients, with the price being under 1000 yen. The reviewer enjoyed the visually appealing dish at a specific restaurant, with saffron rice, finely chopped vegetables in the omelette, and a mild curry flavor. They also tried a meatball croquette made with local pork and wine, which was served hot and delicious. The reviewer also mentioned being offered carrot juice instead of milk, which they found surprisingly tasty. Overall, they enjoyed the Furano Om Curry experience, despite having tried a different om curry the day before in Sapporo Station.

Near Furano Station, there is a café that serves dishes made with homemade sausages, bacon, and local vegetables. Their Omurice curry, which is entered in the B-Grade Gourmet Championship, is made with a lot of attention to ingredients. The egg on the Omurice was fluffy and had a gentle taste. The curry had a vegetable flavor, giving off a vibe of a curry made by a mother for her child. The Sausage Soup Curry had two types of juicy sausages, and when you bite into the meat, the juiciness comes through. The curry was filled with plenty of vegetables. Overall, the flavors were gentle and comforting.

I went to "Yamadori" in Furano, Hokkaido and tried the famous Omurice. It is conveniently located within walking distance from Furano Station, so it's great for a quick visit before catching a train. The Omurice had a gentle and delicious flavor. The egg was cooked well but still fluffy. It looked cute and seemed to be popular among women. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cozy and had a small café-like feel. It was nice to have a taste of Furano's specialty before departing on the train. Thank you for the meal.

Recommended soup curry restaurant in Furano. The interior of the restaurant has a refreshing feel with white as the main color. There is a signature from TBS's famous announcer Yasumi (lol). The restaurant's specialty is sausage and vegetable soup curry. The homemade sausage uses pork shoulder meat from local farms, and is seasoned with rock salt, spices from Germany, and brown sugar - the exact recipe is a secret. The sausage also contains cheese, giving it a Furano touch. The soup curry has a pleasant spiciness that lingers in the aftertaste, making it perfect to eat with rice.

We visited with 6 people for sightseeing from Chiba. Everyone had good reviews. I ordered the White Curry and it was delicious with a slightly spicy kick. The spiciness was balanced out by the refreshing Furano milk. I didn't know this, but everything from the eggs to the rice to the milk is all carefully sourced from Furano. We stopped by on the way to Asahiyama Zoo, and if you have time, I highly recommend it!!! The kids ordered the regular Om Curry, which was mild and suitable for children. It was also nice that the menu came with a variety of side dishes in addition to the curry.

I went on a drive to Furano with my child and wanted to eat omurice curry, so I decided to visit this restaurant which had the least spiciness according to the leaflet I got at Furano Station. When I entered the restaurant, the staff did not come out, and when they finally noticed and came out, I asked if they had a children's menu. They said to wait a moment. I went to ask the owner nearby. They said there was no children's menu, so I asked if the curry was spicy. They said to wait a moment again. I was told by the owner that it wasn't spicy, so I took my seat. When I looked at the menu, I saw that they also had White Omurice Curry, so I asked the staff if the white one was not spicy. They said to wait a moment again. It seemed like the staff had never tried the dishes at their own restaurant. It was a bit disappointing. Maybe they were new? And that staff member never smiled once, always had a blank expression. They seemed bored while working, and it wasn't an enjoyable time for me as a customer. Despite having a child, they didn't provide a child's chair or utensils without being asked, and they placed the hot curry in front of my child... There was no consideration shown from the beginning to the end. The curry that was served, despite using good ingredients, was very ordinary. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptionally delicious either. The taste was average, but the impression of the restaurant was completely different due to the staff's service. I was curious about the soup curry, but with that kind of service, I hesitate to go back. It's a shame that they are in a good location near Furano Station, especially during the peak tourist season.

There is a parking lot behind the restaurant, but it requires quite a bit of maneuvering for cars. You have to walk through a small path from the parking lot to enter the restaurant. There was nothing I wanted to eat at the nearby "Furano Marche," so I decided to visit this restaurant listed in the guidebook. It seems to be run by two women. I ordered milk and omurice. The omurice had fluffy eggs and plenty of vegetables in the curry. It appears that milk and omurice come as a set. I wish there were a few more seats so the wait wouldn't be as long. The cozy and intimate atmosphere may appeal to some people.

While traveling in Hokkaido, I happened to come across this shop in Furano. Most of the vegetables, cheese, and meat are locally sourced, which gives it a Hokkaido touch. Just hearing that makes the flavors more rich and deep. Each dish has a warmth to it, making it feel comforting. The soup curry here is different from the mildly spicy ones I've had in the city, with a strong and distinct flavor.

I had minestrone soup. It is made with vegetables from Furano, and they are deliciously fresh and tasty! I also tried my friend's omurice and sausage, and they were delicious too. The cheese inside the sausage was so hot that it surprised me when I cut it with a knife, so be careful. I was able to enjoy a relaxing meal in a calm restaurant.
