Specializing in group customers? As soon as you enter, there are free samples, and they have a lineup of souvenirs from Fukuoka. I bought the "soft simmered chicken wings" that caught my eye the most, as I had bought various other things elsewhere. I thought it was a product from Fukuoka, but it was actually from Miyazaki Prefecture! It looks so tender and delicious, I can't wait to try it out! (*^ω^*)

I visited Fukuoka to buy souvenirs at "Hakata Haneya Sohonke". This place is aimed at group tourists, so they have a wide variety of souvenirs. Furthermore, in the back, they have different types of spicy cod roe. This time, I chose one with a low price. It was 190g for 1080 yen, and it tasted quite delicious based on the sample. Now, there were two thick ones and one slightly thinner one. I cut the thick ones into three pieces and put them on freshly cooked rice. This combination is unbeatable. I love spicy cod roe!

June 3, 2018 Kyushu hot spring tour is finally in the home stretch, arriving at the last souvenir shop (how many souvenir shops did they visit in total?). It seems like this one is near Fukuoka Airport. Large passenger planes are flying nearby. Feeling a bit tired of sampling, I suddenly felt like having some bonito "namari-bushi" after a long time, so I bought a set of 3 for 1,080 yen. I completely fell for their strategy (laughs). A few days later, I sliced it and enjoyed it with mayonnaise and soy sauce. It went well with beer. Thank you for the meal♪♪

This is a place in Tsukuma, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, near Fukuoka Airport. For the exact location, please check the map on Tabelog as usual. For the last lunch of my trip to Kyushu, I visited a shop near Fukuoka Airport that combines a souvenir shop and a spicy cod roe factory. A bus arrived at the quite large parking lot, and we were guided to the shop where we were seated at a table to have lunch. I ordered the Makunouchi set meal with chicken hot pot. I started with a glass of draft beer to cheers and the dishes were perfect with the beer. I had another glass of beer and finished my lunch. The taste was decent, similar to a typical catering service. I wished I could have visited a tempura shop or an udon shop nearby. Looking back on this trip, I refrained from alcohol only on the first day of training, but for the remaining two days, I enjoyed drinking from noon to night. I think having a chartered bus instead of driving a rental car was a big help.

I headed to lunch at "Hakata Haneya Sohonke." It used to be a tourist souvenir center called "Fukuoka Kanko Kaikan," but it has been renovated and now offers meals and souvenirs for sale. It's a typical dining spot for package tours. The store has a wide selection of popular souvenirs from Fukuoka, Hakata, and other parts of Kyushu. Fukuoka and Hakata are very easy places to buy souvenirs. You can find famous snacks and products like mentaiko everywhere. This store sells a variety of famous snacks and delicacies, but you can also find a wide range of souvenirs at train stations and kiosks. Especially at JR Hakata Station, you can easily get famous souvenirs, making it a great place to pick up typical Fukuoka souvenirs. I live in Kurashiki, a tourist town, and our station doesn't offer such a wide variety of souvenirs. It's amazing. I didn't need to rush to buy souvenirs here, but I didn't know that at first, so I ended up buying some popular souvenirs. Then I had lunch at the large dining hall. The first photo is of the lunch I had that day, which included small dishes and Hakata's famous "mizutaki" (chicken hot pot). The sashimi was tuna and squid, and the chawanmushi (savory egg custard) was delicious with plenty of ingredients. The small dishes were decent, and they included Hakata specialties like mentaiko and umeboshi seaweed. I had to put the mentaiko on top of the rice, but it was just okay. The highlight was the Hakata mizutaki, with its cloudy white soup made by boiling chicken bones at high heat to extract the rich chicken flavor. The chicken pieces were large and the overall dish was quite satisfying for a lunch option. I think it was a course lunch focusing on the hot pot. The soup was delicious, so I didn't want to waste it and turned it into a porridge with some umeboshi seaweed topping. The umeboshi seaweed here was also just okay, but it added a nice touch to the porridge. Overall, the lunch was mediocre, but the hot pot and porridge were worth it. After filling my stomach, I headed to the Fukuoka Kokusai Center where the Grand Sumo Tournament was being held. It was my first time watching sumo, and I was really looking forward to it.

Ureshino-kan at Yuyaku Resort ↔ JR Hakata Station Round-trip bus On the way there, we made a stop at Arita Porcelain Park. On the way back, we had a 30-minute break at Haneya Sohonke where we were dropped off. Since it was a souvenir shop, we had to buy something. We didn't buy any perishable items like spicy mentaiko because we weren't going home yet that day. We bought some mentaiko senbei, which was delicious. The hotel had a good selection of souvenirs to choose from. Haneya Sohonke in Hakata had a variety of souvenirs available for purchase.

On the way from Tsukuma to Shime, there is a curious building called "Haneya Souhonke." It seemed like a factory for mentaiko? with Fukutomi running it, but they also sell other companies' mentaiko. They have various souvenirs as well, and it seems like their main goal is to sell souvenirs to tourists who arrive on large tour buses. My partner, who was planning to visit their hometown, bought some products like Windy Rolls (648 yen), Puri Puri Squid Noodles (540 yen, which is a product of Fukutomi), and Age Maru's Mentaiko Cheese (648 yen, a product of a company in Kagoshima sold by a company in Naka). I bought some Mentaiko Kamaboko for myself (381 yen, a product of Hakata Nishimura Fish Processing). I enjoyed lightly grilling it at home, and it had a nice chewy texture. It's a great snack to have with good sake.

I chose Hakata Haneya Main Store☆ For children on a school trip, we experienced making mentaiko pickles at the karashi mentaiko dojo. Reservations are available for 2 people or more through the store's website. For a course of 135 grams, the price is 1980 yen for 20 or more customers, and 2200 yen for 19 or fewer customers. Even though we were amateurs at making mentaiko, it turned out to be very delicious and wonderful. We mostly enjoyed it as mentaiko tea rice, and everyone was saying how great it was in various places in Kyushu. It seems like we made some good memories. It was a great experience☆

I visited Kyushu for the first time in Fukuoka City, Hakata Ward. It was a company trip. The place felt like a drive-in, catering to large tour buses and tourists. There was a wide space at the entrance where you could buy souvenirs, and further inside was the dining area. When we arrived, the school trip students had just finished their meal and were leaving their seats. The dishes were already prepared, so we quickly took our seats. We enjoyed various Fukuoka specialties such as Mizutaki (chicken hot pot) and spicy cod roe. The rice was cooked in a pot and was delicious.

On a certain Sunday in September, I used it for a bus tour. You can experience marinating mentaiko. There is a large parking lot where several large buses can be parked, a spacious area where you can buy souvenirs from Fukuoka, and a reservation-only restaurant where bus tours stop by. The mentaiko marinating experience was very enjoyable with detailed explanations. The marinated mentaiko was enjoyed as a snack with beer at a later date. I also tried umeboshi-flavored hijiki. The hijiki was in a semi-raw state, not completely rehydrated, with a pleasant aroma of umeboshi and a hint of sourness, making it delicious. If you are an organizer of a bus tour, how about visiting this place? Thank you for a delightful time.
