Near Shijo Station in Kyoto, there is a soba restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. I visited for the first time on a holiday night and was able to make a same-day reservation. You take off your shoes before entering. There are counter seats as well as table seats and sunken kotatsu-style seating, making it a relaxing atmosphere. They served Oolong tea, Heartland beer, and two appetizers: sautéed gizzard and celery, and sautéed burdock and beef, which were surprisingly delicious. I also ordered simmered daikon, assorted vegetable tempura, complimentary quail tempura, broiled blackthroat seaperch, soba noodles, and 100% buckwheat noodles. The soba noodles had a chewy texture and a rich dark broth. The soba noodles were slightly green and had a plant-like aroma. The recommended salt had an automatic grating function. The meal ended with soba-yu. The total cost for two people was 4950 yen. The appetizers and soba noodles were both very delicious. I would definitely like to visit again.

I went to a soba restaurant near my accommodation. I ordered the "Ten Seiro (100% buckwheat)" for 2,550 yen (including 10% tax). The menu said 2,350 yen, so I thought it would be 2,585 yen with tax included. Maybe they round it off to the nearest 50 yen at this adult soba restaurant. The soba arrived beautifully presented, with two prawns and sweet potato. I sprinkled salt on the thin, dark soba noodles and dipped them in the sauce. I enjoyed the adult soba experience!

This time, we pre-ordered a sashimi platter with 5 types of sashimi and duck breast. We also tried the seasonal soba noodles, comparing the mustard soba with regular soba. Everything was delicious as always, and we thoroughly enjoyed our night in Kyoto.

Arrived in Kyoto and had a late dinner. Kyoto is really nice. Headed straight to Sasaya near the hotel. Had a few drinks and then enjoyed soba noodles with Uji matcha kneaded in. It might go better with salt than dipping sauce. The flavor of matcha was strong and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The retro and warm interior of the restaurant was charming. The soba noodles were surprisingly delicious! I tried "mikan-giri" for the first time and could really taste the orange flavor in the thick noodles and dipping sauce. The duck nanba was also rich and tasty. If you want to eat delicious soba, be sure to visit this place.

I found a shop in a narrow alley! I visited on the weekend, but there were many reservations, so the food service was delayed. We ordered drinks, a side dish, and chestnut soba for now! The menu is limited during busy times. The potato salad served as an appetizer had a garlic flavor that goes well with alcohol! The rolled omelette was shiny and fluffy, very voluminous! It was so heavy that I thought the chopsticks would bend. The seasoning was exquisite and delicious! The grilled young chicken had a crispy skin on the outside and was juicy inside, with no unpleasant smell despite being seasoned only with salt! It was cut into bite-sized pieces, which was nice! And the much-anticipated chestnut soba! It took quite a while to be served, but it was such a delicious soba that I didn't mind. The soba with chestnut kneaded in it was a first for me! There were dipping sauce and salt provided, so I tried it with a little salt first. The chestnut flavor spread in my mouth, and even though it looked like ordinary glossy soba, the fluffy sweetness of chestnut and the aroma of soba came, giving me a shock at the gap between appearance and taste. Wait, chestnut and soba go so well together? It's too delicious! And even though it's soba, it has a strong texture! It's so chewy that it fills you up. It was a series of dishes that satisfied my palate so much! Chestnut soba, I will definitely repeat this! Thank you for the meal!

I found this place on Tabelog and thought it looked good. At first, I was surprised to find it off the main street, but it seems there are many hidden gems in Kyoto. Even though we were not regular customers, the lady at the restaurant kindly welcomed us even though it was close to 8 pm. The entrance had a counter and tables in the back. A few more groups came in after us, and it suddenly got busy. Three groups seemed like regulars, chatting with the staff without even ordering. We ordered as well, but with only a lady and a man working, the food took a bit of time to come out. However, they served it gradually so we didn't mind the wait. We ordered the 100% buckwheat soba and the 80% buckwheat soba. The noodles were thick and firm, especially the 100% buckwheat soba had an amazing texture. I've never had such long and chewy noodles before. We enjoyed them with salt and dipping sauce. We also had some soba broth which was very comforting. I would love to visit this place again. I highly recommend you all to try it out too.

I explored the alleyways of Shijo-Karasuma in Kyoto tonight♪ For my evening drink, I got some soba from Sasaya. I had Aomori 100% and 80% soba, with ankimo, firefly squid marinated in vinegar, dashi-maki tamago, assorted tempura, and duck soup. The conversation about Ultraman Seven was also fun, but what's even more exciting is that such a great restaurant is just around the corner from the main street. I'm really happy about that! (^-^)

The Tanuki's inn for the day was in Shijo Karasuma. During the day, it is a financial district or business district, but at night, this area is quite quiet. While wandering around, I accidentally stumbled into a mysterious alleyway. Hmm... What is this place? A storehouse? A shop? Let me check on Tabelog. Oh... it's a soba restaurant. Hmm... soba in Kyoto... I'm not sure. But I was drawn to this hidden gem in the alley, and I couldn't just pass by. So, with some hesitation and a bit of anxiety, I decided to go in.
A beautiful lady welcomed me, and my nervousness and anxiety disappeared in an instant. I sat at the counter-like area, facing a man who seemed a bit intimidating. I looked at the menu. There were various appetizers, and a tempting selection of sake. I decided to start with my favorite brand "Tohoku Izumi" and ordered a "Nagaimo Steak" to go with it. The Nagaimo was crispy as expected, a perfect match for the sake.
Next, I tried a "Black Sato Hot Water Split" and a "Yurine Butter Soy Grilled" dish. The flavors were a bit intense for the delicate Sato. For the finale, I ordered the "Buckwheat Soba" (80% buckwheat) which was simply amazing. The soba was fresh and had a perfect texture, flavor, and chewiness. The soba soup was also exceptional, more like a soba porridge than a traditional soba soup.
The owner shared some insights with me. He explained that in Kansai soba restaurants, they use the same pot for boiling udon and soba, causing the salt from the udon to dissolve and affect the flavor of the soba soup. This was a revelation for me. The owner also mentioned that the soba soup is made like a porridge intentionally, with a unique salt blend and yuzu shichimi to enhance the aroma.
Overall, the experience at this soba restaurant shattered my preconceived notions and introduced me to a new level of soba enjoyment. The soba soup alone was a game-changer, and I left with a newfound appreciation for soba culture in Kyoto.

It's a bit slow for the soba to come out when it's crowded, but it's worth waiting even for 5 hours. The other dishes and oden were also delicious. I want to live next door.

The soba was delicious, but the other a la carte dishes were also tasty. There was a variety of Japanese sake available, making it a great restaurant.

A cozy restaurant where you can enjoy beautifully presented soba noodles in charming dishes. The duck soba, with its rich broth and flavorful noodles, is outstanding.

Exit from the third exit of the Karasuma Line Shijo Station underground and turn left. Enter the first narrow alley on the right and then turn right. At the end of the alley, look to the left and you will find this restaurant. Split the curtain and enter the restaurant, take off your shoes. To the right, there is a counter and a kitchen, in the back there is a large table with a sunken kotatsu, and two traditional table seats. There is an old hanging clock, and old ornaments and dishes are displayed on the staircase chest and stove. From the ceiling, there is an imitation Meiji lampshade with a bare light bulb, showing great taste. The menu offers soba noodles made from 80% buckwheat flour, 100% buckwheat flour, and local buckwheat. They have a lunch menu, and at night, they have a good selection of dishes to go with drinks, making it seem like a soba izakaya. I ordered the 100% buckwheat and local buckwheat noodles to share with my friend. The local buckwheat noodles were coarsely ground and had a good texture, with some uneven edges. The flavor and aroma of the noodles were decent but not exceptional. There was a hint of bitterness, giving it a nice rustic feel. The condiments were green onions and wasabi. The dipping sauce seemed different and it turned out they used rehydrated shiitake mushroom broth, as stated on their website. They used Mikawa mirin for seasoning. The soba broth was rich and had a slight sweetness, although the soba flavor was somewhat subdued. The dishes were a mix of old and new, with antique soba cups. It's rare to find a soba restaurant that offers such high-quality items, and this is only the second one I've encountered after visiting over 1000 places. The soba is made from autumn buckwheat, but even after trying my friend's 100% buckwheat noodles, I found it to be lacking.

A soba restaurant near Shijo Station. They have a good selection of oden, and even if you just pick about 5 items at random, like daikon, ganmo, and konjac, they are quite delicious. We also ordered octopus balls, which were tasty. The soba we had at the end was almost exquisite. Overall, the meal was very satisfying, but the selection of sake may not be the best. It's not bad, but I usually go to places in Kyoto where the sake selection and management are top-notch. However, in terms of cost performance, this restaurant may be very convenient.

This shop is located near my company and I used to go there often. Whenever I feel like eating soba noodles or having a light drink, I would visit this place. All the dishes are delicious and reasonably priced. The cost performance is excellent. The soba noodles are also of good quality, especially considering it's in Kyoto.
